monkey see, monkey do Lex regretted ever agreeing to let Chloe spend the day with him. He knew she was hyper. He knew she was inquisitive and worse yet, he knew she could be annoying as hell! At this moment, Lex was trying to read over the latest reports on the position of LexCorp stock, and Chloe was hovering near his side, breathing down his neck. “Chloe, could you not do that, please?” he asked, doing his best not to glare. She simply stared at him, her blue eyes innocent and her blond hair flipped out at the ends. “Why don’t you go sit over there?” Lex suggested. He pointed to the leather couch on the other side of his office. She shook her head and smiled at him. Lex sighed and went back to studying his reports. His eyes narrowed when he caught a petite hand gliding towards his paperclip holder. Chloe pulled one out and held it up to her mouth. “Don’t even,” he warned. She popped the silver paperclip into her mouth and dashed away. “Chloe!” Lex was up and out of his chair, grabbing her around the waist. “Spit it out, spit it out right now!” She did, and it clattered across the floor. Just then, the heavy glass doors to his office opened and in walked Clark. “I see you two are having fun,” he said, chuckling a little. Chloe broke free from Lex’s grip and launched herself into Clark’s arms. “Daddy!” she squealed. Lex straightened his shirt and crossed his arms. “She’s just like her mother. I don’t know how you put up with two of them under one roof.” Clark shifted his five-year-old daughter to his hip and bounced her. “I have a lot of energy.” “No kidding.” Chloe reached out her arms towards Lex. “Hug me, Uncle Lex!” she demanded. Lex rolled his eyes, but Clark knew he loved it. Lex hugged her and kissed her cheek. “I’m a good girl, right?” she asked. “Of course you are. See you later.” Lex waved goodbye as Clark left with his daughter and headed for home, where his wife, Chloe Sullivan Kent, was waiting for them. He sat down at his desk again and focused on the reports. Halfway through the first page, he popped a paperclip into his mouth and sucked on it. It was a bad habit of his and he grinned, realizing Chloe had imitated him. He forgave Clark for asking him to watch her. ~end |
