accomplishment of an objective - prologue As a structural engineer, Michael Scofield often wondered about the way things in the world were connected. Everything was supported by something else, especially when it came to human beings. Family ties gave way to friendly relationships, which branched out into enemies or those you disliked, sloping all the way down to mere acquaintances on the street. But everyone was connected to someone else, either though blood or meeting. It was just a matter of finding those ties. When his older brother was tried and convicted of murder and sentenced to death row, Michael knew he couldn’t let his last remaining family member just disappear without a fight. So he started researching his brother’s past, looking for those connections that would help prove Lincoln’s innocence, at least of this particular crime. Michael knew Lincoln was no angel. He’d made mistakes, some of them whoppers, but nothing like this. Michael took it upon himself to learn the truth that everyone else had seemed to stop caring about. He talked with people that Lincoln knew, people that Lincoln hated and who hated him. He did background checks on all parties involved, from the family of the murdered man to the district attorney handling the prosecution. He read and researched the articles written about the trial, including the reporters. It was a late December evening when he stopped and realized he was only one man. Whatever was going on here was bigger than he’d originally thought, and he couldn’t do this by himself. He needed resources. He needed help. It was hard to admit that, but when he finally did, he set upon the daunting task of choosing someone to aid him in his quest. Sifting through his notes, he noticed one name that jumped out at him several times. And so, he decided to enlist her. If she said no, he felt that he would certainly lose his fight to save his brother. And he was determined not to lose. ~end Prologue |
