Shane Filan conveys the image of being reserved and serious, but behind his mature exterior lurks a wild, fun-fuelled animal (oo-er missus!!!)
While he adopts a serious approach to his work in Westlife, Shane also knows how to switch off and enjoy himself along with the other members of the group.
He does admit that he was regarded as "a messer" by his teachers during his school days. "I was always in trouble for not paying attention and I still have a low attention span." he reveals.
One of the first things he had to learn when he became a pop star was how to cope with a lifestyle that involved flying around the world.
He says: "It was the only real downside of my amazing career when I first started off, as I hate flying. I just didn't know how I was going to cope with the boredom of being stuck on a plane for hours."
"I always considered the flight from Dublin to London a long one. I thought it would never end and that just takes an hour. Imagine then how I felt when I learned that we were going to faraway places like Australia or Taiwan, which takes over twenty hours!"
"But, like everything else, the more you do it, the more you get used to it. Now it's like getting on a bus and just as well too - it looks like I'm going to be spending the next five to ten years on a plane!"
One of the best things about being in Westlife for Shane is the fact that he gets to indulge his passion for shopping. He's a confessed shopaholic.
He says: "Nicky, Kian and myself are the shoppers in the group. We've been doing a bit of that, but I'm looking forward to really going at it when the money comes in and we get some time off."
While he has already been around the world and seen some exotic places, Shane admits that the most magical place on earth to him is still his native Sligo.
He would love to eventually build a mansion there and live in that picturesque area of Ireland with the woman of his dreams.
Shane says: "I am already designing the house in my mind, It will have dark brick on the outside, wooden floors on the inside and lots of things that I will pick up on my travels in the years ahead."
