Dis Is War

IT looks like war has broken out between Five and Westlife.

The rival boy bands have been trading increasingly bitter insults about each other. And I’ve got a feeling this is one feud that will definitely end in a punch-up.

I’ve bumped into both camps recently and found they just can’t stop dissing each other.

Five have branded Westlife “boring wimps” while the Irish lads have dubbed their rivals “rude thugs.”

Five’s J tells me: “Westlife go on stage and do what they’re told — not like us.

“We’ve got a bit of character and we have a lot more fun. They’re wimps and they’re dull and they hang around in frilly, silk blouses.”

Fellow band member Ritchie, who is dating teen beauty Billie, adds: “If people compared us to groups like Westlife or Boyzone we would be gutted.

“They just stand there and do nothing. All they do is sing ballads while we do all sorts of songs. They’re just so boring.”

But Kian Egan of Westlife counters: “Five are just hooligans. They’re always acting like kids and think they’re really cool. J is the most arrogant in the band. He thinks he’s God’s gift and has never spoken to us. It’s so childish.

“If they spent more time performing and less time messing about, they might get as many No1 records as us. They’re rude thugs.”

Last night Graham Sharp, of bookies William Hill, seemed to agree with Kian’s assessment by firmly backing Five in any fracas. He said: “If the boys get in the ring, it would have to be a tag match.

But Five are heavier than their Irish opponents and we would swing in their favour.

“I’d give Five 1-2 and Westlife 6-4, with the odds at 100-1 for a draw.”

The groups have fought bitterly before — but only in the charts.

Last year, Westlife and Five released albums just a week apart. Westlife’s self-titled debut reached No2 and Five’s Invincible didn’t quite live up to its name by only hitting No3.

Both were beaten by Steps’ Steptacular album. So who do you think is the best?

Let's get rrready to rrrumble

Members

Five:

Jason “J” Brown, 24, Ritchie Neville, 20, Scott Robinson, 20, Richard “Abs” Breen, 20, and Sean Conlon, 19.

Records

Westlife:

Singles Swear It Again, If I Let You Go, Flying Without Wings and I Have A Dream/Seasons In The Sun all made debuts at No1. Album Westlife got to No2.

Five:

Eight Top Ten singles, including Slam Dunk Da Funk (No10), Everybody Get Up (No2), If Ya Gettin’ Down (No2), Keep On Movin’ (No1)Two albums, Five (No1) and Invincible (No3).

Reputation

Westlife:

Nice boys of pop. They even took time out to visit sick kids at London’s Great Ormond Street hospital.

Five:

Bad boys of pop. Like to wreck hotels and enjoy a good drinking session.

Strengths

Westlife:

They’ve one potent weapon – towering giant Bryan McFadden. And it’s all muscle, I hear.

Five:

Sean is an ace rugby player and used to rucking, and they all like a good scrap.

Weaknesses

Westlife:

Might be too busy checking their hair or worrying about ruining their matching outfits to win a scrap.

Five:

Always squabbling so may be too busy fighting each other to beat Westlife. Or just too hung-over to put up a good fight.

My verdict

Westlife:

Too nice by half. They wouldn’t stand a chance.

Five:

J could chin them all on his own.
