The story begins at a seaside amusement park where our heros become outlaws as angry carnies chase them about the rides. Taking refuge in a haunted house, the three rebels are rescued by their friend who literally drives through the ride with his truck(!). Shortly afterward, they sail the Atlantic Ocean(?), hit bottom and sink (with the aid of top-notch spcial effects).
Swimming ashore on an unkown island, they discover discarded human skulls and...mutliated tires! I'm not really sure what happens from there, as I couldn't help myself from occasionaly dozing off, but it has something to do with deadly flying nets which appear from nowhere.
As scripted by Frazier Pierce, Bloody New Year is a bloody awful film that should have you howling with laughter from begining to end. Watch the opening credits closely. You know it's packed with stars when the names are listed in alphabetical order. Also, the musical score by unkown '80's band Cry No More will make you cry for mercy.
The low point: When an intimidating carny is struck by a car hanging from a ride, which noticeably misses him by five or six meters.
The high point: Sometime during this film's duration, a Tilt-A-Whirl brakes from its brisk speed of 5 miles per hour, catipulting those standing on its deck twenty or thirty feet.
This winner was directed by Norman J. Warren and runs for 186 minutes...wait, oh my God, it was only 86 minutes? May the cheese be with you. Rated R.
