Directed by Floridas Jason Daly, and photographed by Captain Smudge, the film came as a pleasant surprise - a modern slasher flick without 'self aware' characters. I write Captain Smudge due to the fact there is, well, a giant smudge covering the screen for most of the films duration. There. I said it. The director will probably shoot me later. But, the average reaction to this film is, Damn that was well made! Gory as hell! But what about that smudge?; and Great movie - what I could see around the smudge.
Okay, enough with the giant smudge. If youre a slasher fan, this is one must have movie. Its got everything (aside from breasts), and gore. Truckloads. Almost too much. This is the cheap mans Dead Alive.
The storyline follows a group of typical twenty-somethings as they spend a weekend in a rented house. Of course, this house is located in the woods - woods which are stalked by the demented Shane. Seems Shane is a product of inbreeding and abuse, and hes not very happy. Thats about it for plot. Sure, theres a twenty minute scene where the lead characters sit around a campfire discussing Shane's origins, but who cares? This scene never has relevance to the present going ons. Kudos for the throwback to eighties campfire flicks, though.
The conclusion offers an extended fight scene, which is damn nice, and a plot twist (which Id never give away - but if you think about, doesnt quite make sense). The finale is mind boggling (considering the limited budget) and payoff up to par. Its fun. Get your copy at: Cutthroat Video.
The low point: Let me think for a moment...the SMUDGE!
The hight point: A slam-bang 'shotgun blast through a door' sequence.
The bottom line: Offers plenty of action, gore, car chases, gore, crappy sound effects, gore and gore. Did I mention there is gore? Watch it and enjoy, cheeseheads. A fun time is inevitable.
