Rome, Italy
Rome was the start of our "Tour of Italy" vacation and after a long night spent in a train couchette with two crazy (and quite drunk) couples on their way to Italy, we had yet to find a place to stay! Aren't we adventurous? We lucked out however and found a nice guy that clued us in on a hotel right near th train station that turned out to be really nice considering the reasonable price. We were more than happy to "crash and clean" before heading out for a day of discovery in Rome. Unfortunately the weather was not so willing to cooperate (this was to become the them of our Italy trip) and we stepped out of our hotel into the rain but optimistic nonetheless.
The plan was to walk around and that is most certainly what we did. . .a lot of walking! Thankfully if you're going to walk miles in the rain, Rome is a great place to do it because it is beautiful. After stopping and crossing the famous Spanish steps we crossed several scenic piazzas bordered by glamorous stores and cafes until we stumbled upon the amazing Trevi fountain. This impressive and world-renowned fountain is eternally buzzing with tourists who like us, crowd around to throw a coin into the swirling waters. Superstition has it that a coin tossed into the fountain ensures that you will come back to Rome again. . .maybe this time with some sun. . .

Ahhh. . .the Vatican and San Pietro (St. Peter's). Did you know that we get to call this a country on our list of places visited? What a deal! Well we did have to wait in a huge line (did I mention it was raining?) for our turn to get frisked before entry but it was certainly worth it. It is truly amazing. Although neither Jeremy nor I consider ourselves religious, there is still something impressive about such a huge monument (a country no less!) built by the faithful and devoted to the belief in God.
