A Day in Orange
We didn't spend much time in Orange seeing as to how we celebrated the "Beaujolais Nouveau" the night before (more on that in our Nights Out page) and my cousin was picking us up early in the afternoon to take us to Condorcet.  We did get to see the major attraction however---the most well-preserved Roman ampitheater in Europe. It was constructed in the 1st century AD and still stands proudly in the heart of town. They actually still put on shows! It was really impressive despite the fact that (of course) it was sprinkilng. This seems to be a theme so far. . .better luck on our next trip maybe? We swear there is sun in the South of France---just not when we travel I guess.
Finally figured out how to use that timer on the camera.
Hard to capture the enormity of the theater and the impressive feeling of being there but this gives you an idea.
This is the emperor who was a big fan of theater. It was supposed to remind the spectators that he was looking over them. I guess it was a way to flex his muscles. Funny anecdote: the head of the statue is removable so that as emperors were overthrown or died, they could just swap the heads.
