Monte Carlo, Monaco
Having visited Nice for a couple days and having realized that Monte Carlo was only a 20-minute 3 euro train ride away, we decided it was time to mingle with the high rollers.  Our first official foreign country since moving to France! It proved to be an interesting little country with it's own monarchy and distinct style. . .and some great art (check out "Adam and Eve" on this page and the "Crazy Stuff" page).
A view of Monte Carlo from the casino-side, the sea to our backs.  There was a carnival going on which explains all of those lights along the port. As you can tell it was a bit foggy but beautiful nonetheless.
Another view of Monte Carlo from the opposite side of town where the Prince's castle is. The structure in the forefront is one of the turrets from the original castle. There were actually men in traditional uniform marching in front of the castle, keeping an eye on it for the royal family.
One of the streets in Old Monaco with part of the Prince's palace and the landscape in the distance. Overhead is the flag of Monaco, often associated with car racing since Monte Carlo hosts the largest race of the European circuit. the flags were everywhere and it was evident that the inhabitants of Monaco are very proud of their unique country.
And here looms the Monte Carlo casino made famous by all the James Bond films. This is where all the high rollers come to gamble in the private rooms. We considered going in and pretending we had money but there was a 10 euro entrance fee which quickly reminded us that we do not have the cash flow of high rollers. The casino was more well-guarded than the Prince's palace. What that says I don't know.
These are our buddies Adam and Eve.  In exchange for not going in the casino we thought we would scope out some high rollers.  To our dismay the only rollers we found had rolls of a different kind.  (You can also check out these two high rollers on our crazy stuff page.)
