Brittany, France
Brittany is located on the very northwest corner of France and just like any other region in this storied country, it is complete with its own culture, language and people. The western-most border of Brittany is framed by the Atlantic Ocean pictured above and to the right. A region historically occupied by the celts, the people of this region take their celtic history seriously and have begun make many efforts to preserve the "Breton" language and culture. I
Here we stayed with Monique and Claude---two more members of Jess' family believe it or not in their house near the coast which is pictured below.
Jeremy has been hurting for sports so bad that he even resorted to a game of toss and catch (fetch) with Jess's godson Julien.
The first evening we spent with them, Monique made a huge and very yummy paella. It was made in this humungous pan. Jess was taking notes because it looked like so much fun. Maybe a paella party will be in making after our return?
Claude (the man feedind Jess)and Monique know that we have a weakness for seafood so they spared no expense at the ocean-side market. I know they look like little monsters but they are good little monsters
To the left is Jessica's godson Julien and to the right is her cousin Clara. Above with Jeremy and the monstrous plate of seafood is yet another cousin---Florent.
This region has a little bit of everything---both rocky coast and green hillsides, making for a dramtic and all together istunning landscape.
A family meal with all the kids after we just arrived was a great way to start off the vacation. . .and the great food that was in store for us all weekend.
