Pieces -- a Megami Kouhosei fanfiction by Kay Willow. this was one of my most favorite stories of Kay-san's, mainly because of the wonderful characterization of both zero and erts. it is au, and takes place in a very familiar countryside setting -- that is, very familiar if you have seen curriculum 09.

"But I shouldn't let you talk to Erts today," she said fretfully. "He has the flu, you know, and we don't want you catching it..."

Zero seized upon the 'I shouldn't' with the reflexes of a born sneak. There was a very significant difference between 'I shouldn't' and 'you shouldn't.' "It won't do any harm," Zero brushed off, endeavoring to look as optimistic and illness-repellent as he could. "I've already had the flu! Antibodies and stuff, you know. And I haven't been sick a day in my life! Not since I was five years old, when I caught malaria and was better again in only an hour!"

Another Story -- a Fushigi Yuugi fanfiction by Purple Mouse. this story is hilarious! i have adored it for quite some time now, despite the fact that it encompasses a few of things that usually send me to pet peeve hell: such as overuse of exclamation points and phonetic spellings (ie, "wooooow, that's AWESOME!!") but Purple Mouse uses this things artfully well, and tells a great story while doing so. this story is about the reincarnated suzaku shichiseishi, and is possibly the best of its kind. told from nuriko's point of view, and very wonderfully nurikoxhotohori.

"Do you believe in reincarnation, Nuriko?"

Where had he come from? I couldn’t remember ever seeing him before; if I had, I’m sure I would have remembered. And who had he been talking to? He’d been looking at me, but…

"Do you believe in reincarnation?"

I shook my head almost violently as I neared the classroom. 'Stop it, Ryuuen. It’s just a stupid dream. Just a dream, that’s all…'

The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth -- a Digimon fanfiction by Kat-chan. since i used to be an avid digimon fan -- i still maintain that koushirou roxers my boxers --, i spent a lot of time reading some of the many (many) digimon fanfics created. kat-chan manages this brilliant series here with splendid writing and an interesting plot: when ken's past catches up with him, and suddenly, the entire world is in danger -- especially the chosen children. a wonderful, exciting story.

The sitting figure's ears perked at a small, scuffling noise coming to his right. He looked over, and let a small smile cross his twistedly handsome features. The old man, tied up by what could've been puppet strings, was struggling valiantly. But, vainly. He'd never escape. Not until his captor wanted him to.

Sitting in darkness, the figure stilled his fingers.

It was time.

Tomodachi -- a Fushigi Yuugi/Yuu Yuu Hakusho crossover by WhiteCat. this is an amazing story -- it is intense, detailed, relatively believable, and has amazing characterizations. unfortunately, it halted at seventeen chapters a couple years ago, and i don't think she plans on continuing it... but i suggest reading it anyway, if only because it is that good! i read this story before i had ever even seen yuu yuu hakusho, and WhiteCat gets the characterizations dead-on, and writes them amazingly. (i believe this is when i fell in love with kurama, honestly. ^_^; before i saw the series, even!) it is a spectacular story.

Behind them, the rings on Chichiri’s staff chimed like guiding bells in the darkness. They finally came to a large door, and the monk pushed forward, nodding pleasantly to the guards, who saluted to him, and opened the door. They eyed the four strangers uneasily, but Chichiri waved his hands in a dismissing sort of gesture - “They’re not dangerous, no da!” - and then stepped into the large room.

They followed, and the doors swung shut behind them. No more turning back.

Between The Walls -- an X-men: Evolution fanfiction by Post. i've said before that i dislike original characters in fanfiction, especially if said character is intended for a romantic involvement with a canon character. however, in this story, i must make an exception: the character of shion in this story is believable, likable, and a great addition to the story -- and the story itself is full of plot twists and unique angles. the story revolves around the character shion, who has a very... unusual mutant power, which manifests itself rather abruptly. don't worry, all of the x-men: evolution characters are given their glory, and the story itself is great. i highly suggest it.

I took a step forward, my arm outreached to his chair, "Look, sir--" ZAAT!! "Ah!" I jumped back in surprise. A bolt of bright green lightning had flown from my hand to his body. The bright green surrounded him and then flew into his body, away from view.

I stood frozen, shocked. It was more than reminiscent of the eyes at the overpass. It was far more frightening this time, for the light had originated from me. Suddenly, I was very concerned as to whether or not I had done something dangerous to the man. It's funny how quick I was to assume responsibility...

"Y-You okay, Mister?" I stuttered. "I'm s-sorry about that. I don't know what's happening to me."

Evermore -- a Fruits Basket fanfiction by Zapenstap. possibly one of the best, and most intense, fruits baskets fanfics i have ever read. the characterizations are perfect, the plot is complex, and she even created an original character that i like! (belduine rocks my world. ^_^) not only that, but she includes pretty much the entire cast, arisa and hana included. this makes me happy. definitely worth a read. (the hyphens are mine, by the way.)

[Akito] smirked. “Of course they do.  You see?  That is the way it was meant to be.  That is how it was decided.  Everything follows a plan and the plan can not be changed.  You are all mine.  You are all cursed.  Even when I die you are still mine.  There is nothing except the Curse.  But for awhile we will be happy, living out our time together.  For a time before I die, after graduation, all the Twelve will be together, the way it was meant to be, and I will take care of everyone.  That is my happy dream for you.”

Shigure remained silent, but his silence was acceptance and they both knew it.
