FOAM WORK EXCLUSIVE Blue and a1 fight a messy battle A foam, flour and dog wee war erupted between Blue and a1 on the Smash Hits Tour this year. It started on the last night of the tour in Bournemouth, explained Lee. We were waiting for the lift on the top floor of the hotel but a1 were already traveling down in it and when they go to the bottom, they pushed all the buttons so it took forever to get back up to us. So we said, Right, well get you back, and that night we covered their Space Cruiser in shaving foam, flour and condoms and wrote ,Take On Me on it. It looked like a snowball! Then we arrived at Poll Winners, Ben had a picture of himself on his dressing room door so I put a bit of foam on his curtains! Its just a bit of fun, innit? They havent done anything to get us back yet but Im sure they will. But what Lee didnt know is that, at rehearsals the day before Poll Winners, Ben let new puppy Holly run free in Blues empty dressing room. Shes already peed on my 3000 pounds sofa at home so I got her to leave a little surprise for them! he laughed. Anyway, we didnt push all the buttons to be horrible to Blue. We do it whenever were in a hotel its to confuse the fans so they dont know which floor were on. Give Blue a few months and theyll realize why. Its nothing vindictive, just a laugh.
I LOVE 2001 One of the hottest new bands of 2001 look back and tell us about the highlights of their year. Check out Blues favourite lady Duncan: Natalie Imbruglia, Ive always been a huge fan and shes really fit. I was so starstruck when I met her. Lee: Im going to say our mums, theyve been really cool this year, and Cherie Blair. expression Antony: I would! We use it all the time. If you see someone fit you say I would! Simon: Or I do. They both mean the same. I do Tina S Club, man. fashion trend Antony and Duncan: Dirty denim, man. It just has to be. Simon: The comeback of corduroy, I said it would but no one listened to me. band Antony: Atomic Kitten theyve had two No 1s, plus theyre out mates and we love em! Simon: its 112 four guys managed and produced by Puff Daddy. Theyre like a Boyz II Men of today. footballer Simon: Michael Ricketts hes my best mate, he plays for Bolton and he scored the winner against Man United. Duncan: Its gotta be Beckham, hes got us into the World Cup, hasnt he? Antony: Hes had a lot of stick this year, no one has judged him on his game, just his clothes or his hair. TV programme Antony: EastEnders Jack Ryder and Natalie Cassidy are wicked. Duncan: I try to catch the omnibus on a Sunday when I can. The storylines have been fantastic this year. Tamzin Outhwaite and Jessie Wallace are cool. scandal Antony: I quite liked the Westlife and the strippers story. That was wicked fair play to em! Its what lads to. Lee: Tu Pac releasing singles. I think hes alive. He lived on the same island as Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana, honestly. film Simon: Rush Hour 2. Its actually better than the first, which doesnt happen often. Duncan: Harry Potter. But Daniel Radcliffe started looking older towards the end. His voice started to break as well, which was hilarious! gadget Antony: My DVD. Its a portable one so we can watch films in the car! Simon: My Powerbook G4 Apple Mac. Its very flash and it was a present from our publishing company. It has a studio built into it. newcomer Simon: Mis-Teeq. Britain needs a good girl band and theyre doing it, through RnB as well. Lee: Gorillaz. They arent my cup of tea but theyre cool and really different. celebrity Antony: Tom Jones hes a geezer and he looks like my dad. One night we were in a pub and these two Swedish au pairs came up to him and sat on his lap, stroking his hair saying, We love you, Tom. They were fit as well. Lee: Darius, because he keeps on coming back for more.
POP INTO HMV What an amazing year its been for the Blue boys. Lee, Simon, Duncan and Antony released their debut single in May and they havent looked back since. All Rise debuted at No4 and hung around the top ten for ages, and their following singles Too Close and If You Come Back both went straight in at No1. Their album, which has recently been released, is an amazing pop and RnB collection. Its smooth and totally sexy and features loads more surefire hit singles. Standout tracks (apart from the singles, obviously!) are the funky Fly By, the anthemic Back Some Day and the heartfelt ballad, Best In Me. The boys recently caused mayhem in Oxford Street, London, when they opened the brand new HMV store in Selfridges. Hundreds of fans turned up to get their copy of If You Come Back signed and to meet their idols. Blue have also been wowing the crowds on the Smash Hits Tour recently, giving their fans the chance to experience the Blue sound live. Awesome!

HI, MUMMY IM HOME! Exclusive Mums the word for Duncan Blue Being a true rocknroll pop god, Duncan Blues just bought a house and is moving in withhis mum. Yeah, Ive just moved her up from Bournemouth, which sounds a bit strange but Im hardly ever home anyway. My mums a wild chick shell be fine with all the parties. Simon from the band is moving in with us too. Weve not bought anything lavish for the house yet. Ive brought my piano up, though. Its been in storage for two years, my grandparents left it to me in their will and I cant wait to play it again. Its my one lavish thing. But Lee was quick to warn Simon that living with Dunk might be tricky. You wouldnt wanna use the toilet after Dunks been in there, he explained helpfully. When Dunk blows the bog up, you know about it. Dont light a match, thats all I say.
HOT FOR 2002 Young, talented and sexy check out this years shooting stars Lee Ryan Blues cheeky heart-throb Random facts: If Lee wants something he goes out of his way to get it, whether its a lady or a packet of biscuits. New Years resolution: To do more for charities, world issues and animal charities in particular. What you should know: Im really cheeky, grins Lee. I get on with my life and like to have fun. Along with bandmates Antony, Simon and Duncan, hes already a regular on the celebrity party set. I love dancing, he says, But Lee also admits to having a deep and meaningful side. I dont show it often, or to many people. Thats why I really need a girlfriend, so I can talk to her about all that. But what he cant talk about, he communicates through music. Im not that good at saying how I feel, Im much better at writing it down, and I do that in songs. What hell be doing this year: Recording the next album and writing some tracks for it with the band. I want Blue to be the biggest band there is. Hes the newJustin Timberlake

BLUE MOVIE! Exclusive Simon Blue writes horror film Simon from Blue is writing a film script. Yes, not content with being part of a No 1 pop act, he also intends to sort out Hollyoaks frustrating lack of decent vampire films! I love vampire films but none of the ones Ive seen recently has had a good-enough plot, he said. The problem is that theyre not complicated enough its easy to guess whos done what and whos the vampire and the films lose your attention before the end. My film is going to be so complicated, with so many twists and turns that no one would ever guess who the vampire is. Ive got plenty of ideas and Ive already started working on the script. I take my laptop with me wherever I go and just jot down bits and pieces whenever I get inspiration. But any laydeez hoping to snag Simon for a hot date at the flicks had better beware. Yeah, Im the worst person in the world to go to the cinema with. Ill talk all the way through and Ill guess whats going to happen long before it does!
Duncan Blue: Soul boy When was the last time you called your mum for a whinge? Ive just moved in with her so I moaned to her last night because I was tired. It was because I bought a TV table from Ikea and when I went to assemble it there was a chip in the wood. I couldnt be bothered to take it back, so were stuck with it now. When was the last time you got nervous about seeing a girl? The last time was in Sweden a couple of days ago. I was catching up with a friend who I hadnt seen for a long time. Its stupid I dont know why I was nervous, but I hadnt seen her for so long and I didnt now what she was going to think. I used to have a really big crush on her. Were good mates so it was cool, just like old times. What makes you feel fuzzy inside? Being in love. Meeting a girl that you really like. Every time you speak to her or get a text from her, you get that feeling inside I love it. I got a text from a girl a few weeks ago and it made me go all goose-pimply. What star sign are you and are you typical of it? Im an Aries, which is a fire sign and the first sign of the Zodiac. And yes, Im very typical of it. Im very headstrong and determined. I know what I want and Im sensitive. Aries have a very loyal side as well. Who is your best mate and what is the quality you admire in him? My best mate is called Rich hes from my home town of Bournemouth. Weve been mates for nine years and we lived together before I moved to London. The thing I admire most is that he doesnt care what anyone thinks of him. He wears outrageous clothes and hes got massive hair hes a very funky bloke. He lives for the moment. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? I wouldnt worry so much Im a big worrier. I worry about everything health, flyingif Im not worrying about something then Im worried. I worry about my mum cos shes all Ive got. If you ruled the world for a day what would you do? I would make everybody equal. I would make sure everybody had money. Everyone is born into this world as an equal and I think thats the way we should leave it. What would you most like to accomplish, professionally and personally? Id like to be secure in my personal life. Id like to meet the right girl and buy my own house and a car. On a career level were doing a tour which Im really looking forward to. We want to make a great second album and I want to write a truly great song. What makes you laugh? Stupidness, anything that is really silly. I dont find conventional things funny. If Lee was playing a prank and fell down the stairs, that would make me laugh. I like off-the-wall humour. Random fact: Eternal Flame by The Bangles reminds me of my childhood cos my mum used to play it all the time. The Kittens version is wicked but The Bangles is more symbolic for me.

Its Love-Lee for Liz Cupid strikes on the Smash Hits Touragain Heres the first picture which tells us Lee Blue and Liz Atomic Kitten are a couple. The pair have been rumoured to be an item since they met in New York last September, bit it was on the Smash Hits Tour the meeting ground for previous pop couples Bryan Westlife and Kerry Katona, and Ritchie Neville and Billie Piper that their romance truly blossomed. Throughout the tour, Lee showed little interest in partying unlike the rest of his band mates preferring to get some early nights. And it soon became obvious why when the Kittens joined the tour in Cardiff. Lee just didnt seem bothered about going out after the tour dates, said a tour insider. He spent most of his time on his mobile and would shuffle off to bed early every night. But, in Cardiff, he was out til two or three in the morning. At the pop quiz after the show, Lee and Liz cosily shared a chair all night and were deep in conversation. In fact, when Lee arrived, Liz instantly shuffled up in her chair to make sure there was room for him. Then, whenever one of them got a question right, they would get very excited and high-five each other.
Hot Seat This issue, Duncan Blue pours out his heart and soul for the laydeez You send in the questions, well get the answers! Would you ever go out with a fan and whats the most romantic thing youve ever done? Donna, Rhyl Never say never, but I dont think Id go out with a fan, especially if they were under 18. The longest Ive been out with is six months, which isnt very long considering Im 22. The most romantic thing Ive done is take a girl away for the weekend. Id like to whisk someone away to Venice, stay in a nice big hotel and spend all weekend in bed. I just need someone to take though What is the most embarrassing article of clothing you own? Debbie, London Ive got a great big pair of flares which are so huge theyre ridiculous. Theyre denim patchwork and I cant wear them because I trip over. The only time I wore them was when I went to a 70s club night Carwash in London. I matched them with a big shirt that looks like a pair of curtains its white with pink flowers all over it! Do you have any secret obsessions? Susie, Northumberland Yep, I have an obsessive compulsion disorder. When I was younger it was with the number five. I had to do everything five times. Id have to do things like turning the kettle on with my little finger, which is my fifth finger, I had to say my prayers five times a night and everything. I used to think that if I didnt do things five times something bad would happen. Now Im obsessed with magpies, I spin out if I see them. I cant walk under ladders, either, Im really superstitious. Tell us a secret about a member of Blue Kelly, Castle Bromwich All our secrets are unprintable because theyre so rude. Antony hates his hairy chest. He gets embarrassed about it and if someone walks in while hes changing he covers himself up. How many girls have you snogged since youve become famous? Ada, Hong Kong I havent snogged any more or less than I did when I wasnt famous. Theres nothing wrong with a good snog now and again and Im not fussed where I go it! Ive snogged everywhere you can imagine planes, trains, buses, nightclub toilets, nightclub stairwells, beach huts you name it, Ive been there. I had a snog underwater once as well, in a swimming pool. It was quite weird really. Ive snogged a couple of famous people but thats all youre getting Im afraid. Lets just say, Im no saint. (Was it an All Saint then? Ed) Is there anything you feel guilty about? Simone, Bolton I feel guilty that I dont see my friends as much as I used to. I feel guilty that they think Im changing because Im in a band I just dont have any time to myself anymore. Are you big-headed? Tammy, Surrey Im not big-headed at all. Im probably the most un-big-headed person youll ever meet. Im just very conscious of my hair not as bad as some people, but quite bad. I have those days when I dont feel confident about myself and Ill get paranoid and feel really ugly, so Ill check my hair out. If Im having a good hair day then I feel good about myself. I live in Finchley in London and saw you in Waitrose. What do your fans say when they spot you and how do they usually get your attention? Zoe, London Well thats my local supermarket and its pretty weird because a lot of fans have started following me around, looking at what Im putting in my shopping basket. When I get to the checkout they all huddle round and ask for my autograph. As for getting my attention one day this fan got her boobs out. I didnt mean to look but I kind of did a double take it certainly got my attention! My birthday is on the same day as yours. Whats been your best birthday so far? Keelie, Derby Lets have a joint party! I love parties, especially themed ones. I want a big masquerade ball for my 25th. I like it when people make an effort and really dress up. My 18th was wicked, even though it all went wrong. I had a big fancy dress party and we hired out the town hall. Loads of people turned up and, at the end of the night, everyone was so drunk that a massive fight broke out and everyone piled in on top of each other. Apart from that it was wicked. People were doing rude things in the corners and everything. It all went wrong but it was hilarious. Can you cook? Michaela, London I cook all the time! I like making traditional stuff like roast dinners and hot pots. But to impress a lady Id probably do a seafood pasta dish, served on a nice table with two for candles, fresh flowers, a bottle of wine and a salad. Is it true that you can surf? Craig, Essex I used to be a real big skateboarder when I was a kid. I was the boy with the long greasy hair and baggy shorts who used to terrorise old people on the sea front. One day my mate and I went on holiday to Cornwall and he taught me to surf. I was brought up by the sea and I love it. You can go out on your own and be completely at one with yourself. Ever been in trouble with the police? Romaine, Sussex Not for anything major. Ive been pulled over for speeding when I was younger. I was always too scared of doing anything bad in case I got in trouble. My mum would have gone mad. What turns you on? Leanne, London I like flirty-ness girls who do the whole swishing of the hair thing and have that naughty look in their eyes. Theres nothing wrong with flirting especially if youre doing it with someone whos as good as it as you are. Whos got the worst habits in the band? Katie, Hackney Lee. He burps he farts, he fidgets. Youll be in a restaurant and your meal arrives and it looks lovely. Before you even have a bite, he reaches over picks it up with his hands, takes a bit, then puts it back! Have you got any tattoos? James, Manchester No, but Id like one, maybe on my shoulder or me hack. Something thats personal and symbolic but I dont know what yet. Whats the funniest rumour youve heard about yourself? Toni, Cheam That Im going out with Dani Behr. Dani and her mate Maz are mates of mine and Antonys. Shes not my girlfriend and I was upset when the papers printed that. It made her look bad, but shes a lovely girl. The Scorcher! Sophie and Kara from Leeds win a signed cup from Duncans kitchen! Is Duncan James your real name? We heard a rumour that its just a stage name Yes, it is a stage name. James is my middle name and thats what I prefer be called. Im sure people will find out why one day but for now, you dont need to know!
