As Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh!

Congratulations Muslimeen and Muslimat! Congratulations Bani Adam!

"Ya Adam, had there not been Muhammad, I would have created neither you nor the earth and the sky." Hadith Qudsi

On the 17th of Rabi al-Awwal, in the Year of the Elephant, Rasulullah Muhammad al-Mustafa, Khatam al-Anbiya, the physical embodiment of Nur Muhammadiya salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam was born to Aminah bint Wahab; 570 years after the supposed "death" and "resurrection" of 'Isa ibn Maryam al-Masih alayhi salaam. His father, Abdullah ibn Abdul Muttalib, had passed away shortly before Muhammad's salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam birth.

Born in Makkah, where the first Masjidullah (the Kaaba) was built by Ibrahim alayhi salaam and his son Isma'il alayhi salaam, Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam was a well-mannered and kind boy. He loved solitude and peace in his youth. It has been told that at the age of 4 two Mala'ikah(angels) opened Muhammad's salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam breast and washed it with snow (or that they removed the bile from him), signifying that Allah subhana wa ta'ala had purified his nafs at a very early stage in his life making him the most pure and righteous of Adam's alayhi salaam children to ever walk the earth. He was then, as the story goes, placed upon a celestial scale and weighed against other humans beings, and no matter how many other people were placed on the scale Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam still outweighed them.

Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam was raised by his foster mother, Halimah of Bani S'ad, and lived with her tribe in the deserts for some time. At 6 years of age his mother, Aminah, departed from alam ad-dunya and Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam returned to Makkah. As an orphan, Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam was now to be brought up by his grandfather Abdul Muttalib. Two years later, Abdul Muttalib died, leaving Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam to be raised by his uncle, Abu Talib. Thus Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam grew up in the household that would also give birth to his cousin, and successor, 'Ali ibn Abi Talib alayhi salaam.

At the age of 9, Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam had already grown into a very meditative person. Often going alone into the desert to contemplate the wonders of nature and its beauty. The eternal question of the meaning of human life was always on his mind, and at the same time intensely aware of the Divine potential residing within mankind.

When the years of his life numbered 12, Abu Talib decided to take Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam with him on the trading caravan to Syria and Basra. History says that on this journey, the caravan passed by a monastery wherein lived a Christian monk and gnostic by the name of Buhayrah. It is said that the monk usually ignored the passing caravans, however, on this occasion Buhayrah invited the caravan to take respite at the monastery. When the leaders came to see him, he asked them specifically to see the young Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam. When Buhayrah saw Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam, he proceeded to uncover his shoulders and pointed to a mark between them; a mark which is said to be the seal or mark of nubuwwat(prophethood). With his esoteric insight, and confirmed by the mark, Buhayrah predicted that this young man would become a great prophet and illuminate the world with Divine Light.

By the time Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam had reached his 20's he had been travelling with Abu Talib extensively, and learned the ins and outs of trade and economic dealings. In these years of his life he also fought in wars alongside the Quraysh against Banu Hawazin. It was in the conditions of wars that he would learn valuable lessons about human nature, as well as in the times of peace. In this time his pure character and his honesty earned him the title al-Amin(the Trustworthy) amongst the Quraysh. Thus he was widely known in Makkah as a trustworthy man of honor.

It was Muhammad's salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam distinctive character that caused the wealthy merchant woman Khadijah alayha salaam to take interest in him. She desired that he marry her and take charge of her financial affairs, and at the instigation of his uncle Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam accepted her proposal. At the age of 25, Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam married Khadijah alayha salaam, a woman of 40. Finally the orphan Prophet salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam had a companion who loved her dearly and believed in him completely. At the hardest time of his life she would prove to be his strongest support, and who had the necessary moral standing to be the wife of Allah's most pure servant. Khadijah alayha salaam would provide Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam with 2 sons and 4 daughters (and not 1 daughter). The first son, Qasim(the reason Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam is sometimes referred to as Abul-Qasim), died when he was but two years of age. The second, Abdullah, also died in infancy. The four daughters were Zaynab, Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthum and Fatima alayha salaam. Fatima alayha salaam, the youngest of the four, would enjoy special distinction as Sayyidati Nisa al-Ameen(Sayyida of the Women of the Worlds). Fatima alayha salaam would eventually marry Amir al-Mu'mineen 'Ali ibn Abi Talib alayhi salaam, and give birth to Imam Hassan alayhi salaam and Imam Husayn alayhi salaam the Cheifs of the Youths of Paradise(Sayyiday Shabab-i Ahlil Jannat). From Husayn alayhi salaam, Fatima alayha salaam would be the mother of the remaining 9 A'immah alayhim salaam. During Khadijah's alayha salaam lifetime Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam never married another woman. Only after the Hejira to Madina would Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam take other wives.

In the years preceeding the beginning of Muhammad's salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam Prophetic dispensation he was more and more involved in the affairs of the Makkan community. He became well known for his honesty and sense of justice. The event that establishes the esteemed position of Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam in the eyes of the Quraysh and other Makkans, is when(at the age of 35) he was asked to place the Black Stone in it's place on the Kaaba. Had any member of particular tribe have been asked to do so, wars would have broken out between the tribes. Thus, Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam avoided such wars by having the Black Stone placed on a peice of cloth and asked all members to help lift the stone. Through this, all the tribes partook of the honor of placing the Black Stone in its proper place.

At the age of 40, while meditating in the cave of Hira on Jabal al-Nur(Mountain of Light), Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam was visited by the Malak Jibril. At first he did not see Jibril, but heard only a voice commanding him to read, "Iqra." At this, Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam said, "I cannot" read, and again he was commanded, "Iqra." Again Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam said that he could not read, and then he was physically picked up and by some accounts slammed against the wall of the cave by Jibril. Again he was commanded, "IQRA." Thus, the first revelation came in the form(surah) of al-Alaqa(the Clot):

Bismillah ir Rahman ir Rahim

Iqra bismi Rabbikal ladhi khalaq

Khalaqal insana min alaq
Iqra wa Rabbukal akram
Alladhi allama bil Qalam
Allamal insana ma lam ya lam

Read: In the Name of your Lord Who created
Created the human being from a clot
Read: And your Lord is Most Generous
Who taught by the Pen
Taught the human being what he knew not. (Quran 96:1-5)

In this way, began the Prophetic Mission of Muhammad al-Khatam al-Anbiya salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam.

On this, the 17th of Rabi al-Awwal, we celebrate the birth of Rasulullah Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa alihi wa salaam as the Mercy from Allah subhana wa ta'ala to all of mankind and the world.

Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen! Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad!

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds! O Allah, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad!
