This was originally a Psychology Thesis
Paper in 1996. i will rework this and add to it insha'Allah. My professor was
originally against the classification of homosexuality as a disorder and
"abnormal." After reading this he said he changed his mind 180 degrees.
Yeah, Right!
When surveyed as
to what the hottest controversy of the nineties is, the majority of college
students surveyed claimed either the abortion debate or the concern over “gay
rights." Both of which are manifestations springing forth from the root of
sexual discord and sexual anarchy, the birthchild of the sexual revolution.
But in the wake
of this discord, confusion and differences of opinion are the only inevitable
realities and all interpretations of sexual idealism will be veiled by the
shroud of cultural baggage and surrounding society’s conceptualizations of
right and wrong.
An actual case of
sexual impartiality is a rarity and dare I say near impossibility with one
side attempting to forward their agenda of acceptance of their sexuality and
the other side usually attempting to pursue the path of self deprivation,
shame and sexual inhibitions.
In most cases,
however, arguments from both sides are based upon the rationale, (if such a
word is even applicable, perhaps opinion is more accurate), of like-minded
individuals interested only in forwarding their biased agendas as the absolute
truth with little or no biological basis whatsoever. Rather the opposing
sides present either a stagnated ideal of total negation and denial in order
to obtain "spiritual purity" or a notion that whatever occurs under the sun is
"Nature-Ordained" and thus normal and healthy (both emotionally and
spiritually)...thus leading to sexual anarchy, disorders and imbalance never
recognized as thus. This creates a problem in discovering what is "normal"
and "abnormal" human sexual behavior, and on an individual and societal
level, does it even matter psychologically and/or physiologically?
In this study,
seeking to define sexual abnormality, we will discuss relevant theories and
previous research. We will also discuss empirical studies and actual records
that have been observed in both human and non-human sexual relations,
including hetero, homo and bisexuality along with pedophilia, interspecies
sex (bestiality) and monogamy and polygamy in both pre and post industrialized
cultures. Thus we will see how this coincides with the relevant theories and
previous research we have discussed, summarize the statistical analysis,
evaluate and interpret the data and finally come to a conclusive decision as
to what should be defined as "normal" and "abnormal" sexual behavior. Furthermore, for the individual seeking an understanding of the mystical
properties sexual energies and intercourse, this will serve as a basic
introduction to the logical, scientific-empirical basis for what is, in the
East, referred to as Tantric sexual Yoga, or "Sexual Alchemy."
Relevant Theories and Previous
Research
Over the years
many different classification systems have been used, varying in terms of how
useful they are and how universally they have been accepted by mental-health
workers. Today, however, one standard system, devised by the American
Psychiatric Association has emerged and is employed by most professionals to
diagnose and classify abnormal behavior. This classification system is known
as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. (Feldman, p539)
Published in
1994, DSM-IV presents comprehensive and relatively precise definitions for
more than 200 separate diagnostic categories. Among these are:
"Sexual Disorders
(problems related to sexual arousal from unusual objects or problems related
to sexual functioning).
Recent advances
in our understanding of the biological basis of behavior have supported the
importance of considering physiological factors in abnormal behavior. For
instance, some of the most severe forms of psychological disturbance are the
result of genetic factors, or malfunctioning in the transmission of
neurotransmission. (Feldman, p 537)
When an
individual displays symptoms of abnormal behavior, the root cause will be
found in a physical examination of the individual, be it a hormonal
imbalance, a chemical deficiency, or a brain injury. However, most people
with dysfunction’s are able to feed themselves, hold a job, get along with
others and in general live as productive members of society.
One approach to
defining sexual abnormality is to consider the degree of deviation from the
average, or typical behavior. In order to determine abnormality, we simply
observe what behaviors are statistically rare and infrequent in a society and
label these deviations from the average abnormal. (Feldman,376)
The problem with
this is that some behaviors that are statistically unusual hardly seem worthy
of concern. Even though most people have sexual intercourse in the bedroom,
does that someone prefers sex in the dining room imply abnormality? Clearly
the answer is no, so an approach that defines abnormality in terms of
deviation from the average is inappropriate. (Feldman, p376)
In addition it
raises the question, can there be "good" deviances? Of course there can be. If someone said that you were "much brighter that the average person," you
would most likely be flattered. In the same way Mother Theresa had devoted
her life to helping the "poorest of the poor," this is definitely unusual but
is quite certainly not a mental or behavioral disorder. Clearly it is the maladaptiveness of an action or the inability of the body or mind to
"perform
its natural functions," or fulfill their natural role, that truly makes an
action a disorder or deviance. (Phlipchalk, McConnell, p 481)
An alternative
approach would be to compare sexual behavior against some standard or ideal. But, here again there is a problem: What standard should be used? Some say
the Bible, some might turn to philosophy and some might even consider
psychology the ultimate determinant. (Feldman, p 376)
None of these
potential standards is universally acceptable. Furthermore, since standards
often change, like the tides of the sea, with shifts in societal attitudes and
new knowledge, such an approach is undesirable, and to say the least,
inapplicable. For instance, until 1973, the American Psychiatric Association
listed homosexuality as a mental illness. Then, however, it voted to change
its official mind, claiming that homosexuality was no longer a mental
disorder. Obviously the behavior had not been altered, only the label placed
upon it by the APA had been modified. (Feldman, p376)
In summarization,
distinctions between "normal" and "abnormal" sexual behavior are not easily
drawn. However, that certainly has not prevented people from trying. In
effect, most seem to be seeking easy answers to a severely complicated
question.
Among the models
of abnormal sexual behaviors that are used to define sexual abnormality are
the medical, the socio-culture, the humanistic, the cognitive, the behavioral
and the psychoanalytic models. The medical model of abnormality suggests that
when an individual displays symptoms of abnormal behavior it is
physiologically caused. The socio-culture model suggests that people’s
behavior, both normal and abnormal, are shaped by family, society and cultural
influences.
The humanistic
model of abnormality suggests that people are basically rational, and that
they should set their own limits on acceptable and unacceptable behavior. The cognitive model of abnormality suggests that peoples thoughts and beliefs
are central to abnormal behavior. The behavioral model of abnormality
suggests that the behavior itself is the problem to be treated, rather than
the underlying medical or psychological root of the problem. The
Psychoanalytical model of abnormality, devised by Sigmond Freud, (more will be
discussed in later sections about Freud’s views on human sexuality regarding
normality and abnormality) suggests that abnormality stems from childhood
conflicts over opposing desires regarding sexuality and aggression. (Philipchalk,
McConnell, pp 536-538)
Given the
difficulties with other approaches, the most reasonable definition of sexual
normality may be one that considers the psychological and physical
consequences of the behavior. In this approach, sexual behavior is
considered, what psychologists who term, "abnormal" if it produces a sense of
guilt or distress or anxiety in the individual or if it is psychologically or
physiologically harmful to others.
Even a definition
that relies on subjective discomfort has its obvious drawbacks, for in some
severe cases of mental disturbance, or accustomness to a disorder, people tend
to report feeling euphoric and on top of the world, never before having
attained such happiness and inner comfort since embracing the said disorder,
even though their behavior may be quite harmful.
As stated before,
some behaviors that are statistically rare clearly do not lend themselves to
the classification of abnormality. If most people prefer granola for
breakfast and others prefer a glass of orange juice and fruit, it would appear
that neither one should be deemed "abnormal." The reason behind this is what
brings us, ultimately, to our final definition of abnormality. The preference
of granola to orange juice and fruit is fundamentally just that, a preference. It is considered thus for the simple fact that both foods
are nourishing to the human body, they are both allowing the body to perform
its natural functions of ingestion, digestion, caloric and nutritional use of
and expulsion (of waste matter) of the foods. Thus, in and of itself the
ingestion of the said foods will neither cause nor be the symptoms of a
psychological or physiological disorder.
In 1992 Jerome Wakefield reviewed
human disorders and proposed such an all encompassing definition.
"A condition is a disorder if...the
condition causes some harm or deprivation of benefit to the person as judged
by the standards of the person’s culture...and the condition results from the
inability of some mental mechanism to perform its natural function."
(Wakefield, 1992 , p 385)
Freudian Theories
According to Freud, to fully
understand personality, it is necessary to illuminate and expose what is in
the unconscious. Slips of the tongue, fantasies and dreams were interpreted
by Freud as revealing the individual’s unconscious desires.
If the notion of an unconscious does
not seem so farfetched to most of us, it is only because Freudian theory has
had such a widespread influence in Western culture, with applications ranging
from literature to religion. In Freud’s day, however, the idea that the
unconscious could harbor painful material from which people were protecting
themselves was revolutionary, for the mainstream. (Feldman, p 466) In the
same way his views on the development of child sexuality and ultimately the
end result of adult sexual relations could be considered more than
controversial and revolutionary in this present age which has overlooked his
psychoanalytical sexuality theories for the "anything goes" sexual anarchy of
a Kinseyan sexual culture.
Freud believed that there were three
components of personality. These were abstract conceptions of a general
model of personality that describes the interaction of various processes and
forces within one’s own personality that motivate behavior. These components
are the "id" - the raw, unorganized inherited part of the personality, the
libido - the "psychic energy" that fuels these instinctual drives, the ego -
the buffer between the id and the outside world, operating on the "reality
principle" as opposed to the id, which operates on the "pleasure principle,"
and the super-ego - representing the morality of society as presented by
parents, teachers and others. (Feldman, p 467) These instinctual and
conscious factors make up the personality of the individual.
Freud also provided us with a view
of how personality develops throughout a series of stages during childhood. This theory is unique in focusing each stage on a major biological function,
which Freud assumes to be the focus of pleasure in a given period. These
stages are the oral stage - from birth to 12 to 18 months, in which an
infant’s center of pleasure is the mouth, the anal stage - the period from 12
to 18 months to 3 years of age, in which the child’s pleasure is centered on
the anus from both the retention and expulsion of feces, (thus accounting for
the erogenous center of nerve fixations on this region), the phallic stage -
the period beginning at age 3 when the child’s interest turns to the genitals
and personal identification with them (this is when the individual associates
and identifies themselves with the parent of the same gender out of repressed,
internal sexual desires for the parent of the opposite gender), the latency
period - the period between the phallic stage and the onset of puberty, where
such concerns seem to be put aside, and finally the Genital stage - occurring
from puberty to death, marked by the desire to engage in sexual activity, the
pinnacle of which (and the endpoint of this internal, physiological drive) is
vaginal intercourse.
Freud believed and hypothesized that
fixation in any of these stages - with the inability to progress through them
would inevitably produce certain psychological and sexual dysfunctions
dependent upon the intensity, duration, and severity of the fixation. (Feldman, p 471)
Religious Dogma
In the debate over sexual normality
and abnormality, no other voice has been more avidly outspoken in the
heterosexual community advocating "traditional" sexual ethics (thus excluding
homosexuality) than religious communities. Some feel that the standard
against which sexual "morality" should be judged against, as opposed to the
psychological definitions of abnormality, is the Bible, or some other
religious text or code of ethics that has been handed down through the
generations to a specific culture. Judeo-Christian tradition holds that the
act of homosexuality is "An abomination." In Leviticus 18:22 it states that
"You shall not lie with a man as one lies
with a woman, that is detestable unto the Lord."
Christian homosexual advocates tend
to claim that biblical opposition to acts of homosexuality is explained away
by the fact that according to the apostle Paul; Christ "came to free us from
the Law." Subsequently, they claim that morality is determined by spiritual
faith alone. This is expressed in the passage "For it is by grace that you
have been saved, through faith, not by works so that no one can boast." They
claim that just as they no longer follow strict guidelines as far as when to
eat certain foods or follow strange processes to rid a house of mold, so too
should we throw off the "yoke" of the "Law."
On the other hand those maintaining
the Judeo-Christian heritage of nuclear-family-oriented sexuality noted that
in reference to the issue of sexual "morality," Paul stated in the book of 1
Corinthians 6:12-13 that "Everything is permissible, but not everything is
beneficial. Food is for the stomach and the stomach for food but both will be
destroyed. Everything is permissible for me but I will be mastered by
nothing." Thus implication that their new "freedom in Christ" from the Judeo
Law was the freedom to follow the mandates of Torah, (the Laws, or tendencies
governing the universe), on their own. This did not imply that the Law was
wrong or needless of being followed, only that it would now be followed by
self-discipline not through societal enforcement.
This can be compared to child
rearing where as when a child is in infancy, plastic guards are plugged into
electrical sockets and child safety locks are affixed to medicine cabinet
doors. However as the child grows older the "safety locks" are removed as
the children are now mature enough to know better than to stick a metal object
in an electrical socket since they understand the physical law that if they
interrupt an electrically charged circuit with their body, then shock will
result. In the same way, it is argued that the followers of Christ’s teachings
were expected to understand that defying the physical laws of sexuality that
their creator laid forth will result in physical detriment also. "Everything
is permissible, but not everything is beneficial."
They also argue that while the
climatic region of most modern day Christians, the type of houses they inhabit
and their susceptablity to excessive mold spore growth has dramatically
changed, the human anatomy has not (predominantly). Thus what was quite
possibly a very socially applicable law for cleansing a place of inhabitance
with mold growth, may now in modern society have little or no relevance and
application whatsoever to those other than people living in a 3,000 B.C.E.
Mesopotamian climate in similar housing conditions. However the social codes
of many ancient cultures still prove applicable and effective today for the
human body has changed very little. Men can still not bear children nor can
women fertilize another woman’s egg, nor has either gender developed or
evolved the genitalia of their complimentary gender.
Ironically and despite the fact that
this religious group is often singled out as "anti-gay" or "homophobic,"
(which, whether or not they are is beside the point), these views of sexual
abnormality do not, historically speaking, appear to be all that unique to the
Judeo-Christian tradition. "The most successful social-codes in history were
some of the same ones handed down in the Judeo-Christian heritage. But they
are not unique to that heritage." (Reisman, p116) Those practicing Islam
believe the exact same religious tenants regarding human sexual behavior, as
do Rastafarians (which stems from their roots in Ethiopian Christianity). Predating orthodox "Catholic" Christianity, lies the beliefs of the early
Jerusalem Church; the sect known as the Nazirenes, (literally,
Nazirite-Essenes). The most prominent and influential Nazirene was Y’shua,
("Jesus," in Greek). In Aramaic Matthew, (the oldest record of Y’shua’s life
and ministry, and the source of at least three other Gospel accounts, dating
to 36 C.E.), Y’shua instructs his inner circle of disciples, that conservation
of sexual essence must be preserved for vaginal intercourse and reproduction. Furthermore, he stated that sexual alchemy, (the transmutation of sexual
energy, or Chi, into pure spiritual essence and power), was a prerequisite for
many of the mystical arts. The tenant that homosexuality is abnormal or
somehow against a higher moral law is also held by Hindus, Bhuddists, Chinese
philosophies - Taoism and nearly all off shoots of these, the worlds oldest
religions, philosophies and social codes.
Again, referring to Judeo-Christian
tradition, the apostle Paul said in Romans 1:20 that, "The wrath of God is
being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men
who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God
is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the
creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-external power and divine
nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so
that men are without excuse."
Thus implying that the "higher moral law"
religions and spiritualities seek to discover and follow, is actually
universal truths and natural laws that can be observed through the empirical
senses and thus "enlightenment" is a product of deduction and scientific
reasoning.
"A larger knowledge of history
stresses the universality of these codes and concludes to their necessity. They are actually matters of health more than ‘morality;’ which is another way
of expressing that health and true morality are much of the same things. (Reisman,
p116)
It would be unfair to leave the
topic at this. While their theories of defining sexual morality or normalcy
by the scientific examination of how the natural world operates seems
adequate, impartial and fair to say the least, many of these religions ignore
many fundamental aspects of human sexuality which are apparent to all who can
truly see. Thus many seek comfort in negation and fulfillment in pipe-dreams
of "morality" and "self-denial." Two terms which are used almost synonymous
of each other.
Eastern Medicine - Yin and Yang Theory
For thousands of years now, the
Chinese have held the view that sexual relations between male and female are
the primary earthly manifestations of the universal principles of Yin and
Yang. As such, the regard sex to be as natural and indispensable to human
health and longevity as rain falling upon the fields is to plant life. They
are deemed as fundamental to human life as is eating and sleeping. The
intense sense of guilt attached to sexual matters in distorted Western
perception of Judeo-Christian tradition is, in Chinese eyes one of the most
unpleasant and incomprehensible aspects of Western Culture.
Traditional Western hypocrisy
towards sex has prevented serious study of human sexuality in the modern world
until only a few decades ago. Like everything else in Western philosophy, sex
is viewed through the lens of dualism: it is either seen as sacred (in
ceremonial matrimony) or profane (out of wedlock), with no room for anything
in between.
The Chinese do not draw such
distinctions between sacred and profane sex. As far as Taoists are concerned,
the only important distinctions regarding sexual activities are those between
healthy and balanced and unhealthy and unbalanced habits. Throughout the
animal world, Nature has fashioned the female as a superior specimen uniquely
equipped for the survival and propagation of the species. According to the
"Law
of the Jungle," the male exists only to provide the seed for future
generations and to protect the nest while the female nurses the young to
maturity. Under the harsh realities of survival of the fittest, it often
seems as if men are nothing more than the biological equivalent of a paper
plate.
Only humans, (and a few higher
primates such as orangutans), engage in sexual intercourse all year long, day
and night, in any season or weather. However, the human male, despite his
inflated ego, is still subject top the same limitations that Nature has
imposed upon his gender in all species.
All relevant data from the 12,000 to 8,000
B.C.E. period indicates that pre-civilized women enjoyed full sexual freedom and were often totally incapable of controlling their sexual drive. It has been proposed that one of the reasons for the long delay between the
earliest development of agriculture (12,000 B.C.E.) and the rise of urban life
and the beginning of recorded history (8,000 to 5,000 B.C.E.) was the
ungovernable and cyclic sexual drive of these ancient women. Not until those
drives were gradually brought under control by rigidly enforced social codes,
(through religious heritage), could family life become the stabilizing and
creative force from which modern civilization could emerge. (Reid, p 260)
Although men took over control of
the family, village, economy, religion and state, they still found themselves
at the women’s mercy in bed. No amount of human artifice, and denial, can
mask or alter the fundamental facts of the Tao (which literally translates to
"the Way" or "the Way it is"). Hence, there arose a deep contradiction
between man’s control and his genuine sexual inferiority; giving rise to the
battle of the sexes that still rages in bedrooms today. This also explains
the deep resentment that many men have towards women, despite women’s supposed
inferiority.
The foregoing observations of the
Nature of Yin and Yang, (the universal principles that there are positive and
negative complementary forces to everything existing in the natural world,
i.e. day and night, awake and sleep, man and woman, even positive and negative
electrical charges and poles of a magnet that only work when used together in
harmony), make it clear that as far as sexuality goes, men and women are not
created equal. Yin is abundant and enduring, while Yang is limited and
vulnerable. This is reflected in the fact that, throughout the world, women
tend to outlive men by a factor of 5 to 10 years.
The contrasting nature of male and
female orgasm has important implications for two types of sexual activity that
have aroused much controversy over the ages, and appear to be gaining in
popularity today: masturbation and homosexuality.
The term masturbation, is generally
utilized synonymously with the concept of solo ejaculation. Generally
speaking, masturbation is literally nothing more than self-stimulation, and is
of no detriment to ones health, (male or female). However, the concept of
solo ejaculation can produce results altogether different. For men, solo
ejaculation represents an irretrievable and uncompensated loss of semen
essence. While healthy males between the ages of 16 and 21 are veritable
"fountains of semen" for who this poses little immediate threat, by the age of
25 or so, all of the old warnings regarding male masturbation begin to come
true, weakness in knees, numbness in lumbar regions, emission of vital
nutrients for the regeneration of hair and sharp eye-sight .
A woman by contrast may masturbate
to her hearts content and only experience a taste of the fatigue which plagues
her complimentary gender. At the same time most of her stores of "sexual
essence" or fluids will remain undamaged and undepleted if not incessantly practiced. However not all of the female’s vaginal secretions can be
reabsorbed into the walls of the vagina and if masturbation becomes practiced
excessively, females can experience vaginal dryness, mild cases of fatigues
and diminished libidal urges. However, the perfect balance is regarded as
the ebbing and flowing of male and female essences in perfect unrestricted
harmony.
The same point applies to homosexual
relations; women will see few impacts physiologically, while men will see
highly detrimental impacts both physiologically and psychologically. Nature
has made females more passive and two passive forces, (although
non-attractant), do not repel. In this, parallel can easily be drawn to two
positively and two negatively charged poles of a magnet - with negative poles
only attracting and perfectly fitting with positive poles, two positives
repelling and two negatives not attracting! Exactly as followers of Tao, from
Confucius to Lao Tzu, have been saying for thousands of years.
The depressing phenomenon of "post-coital blues," which is experienced when males frequently ejaculate, was
discussed in an interview with Miles Davis:
"Davis: You can’t come, then fight
or play. You can’t do it. When I get ready to come, I come. But I do not
come and play.
"Interviewer: Explain that in
layman’s terms
"Davis: Ask Muhammed Ali. If
he comes, he can’t fight two minutes. Shit, he couldn’t even whip me.
"Interviewer: Would you fight Muhammed Ali under those conditions to prove your point?
"Davis: You’re goddamn right I’d
fight him. But he’s got to promise to fuck first. If he ain’t going to fuck,
I ain’t going to fight.
You give up all your energy when you
come. I mean you give up all of it! So, if you’re going to fuck before a
gig, how are you going to give something when it’s time to hit? (Reid, p. 261)
What neither Davis nor Ali realized
is that sexual intercourse without ejaculation prior to a "fight or gig" would
improve their performance even more than if they abstained altogether. Artists
and athletes rely on optimum levels of physical and mental vitality in order
to perform, which is why they are even more sensitive to the loss of semen and
vital energy through ejaculation. However, other men suffer from it just as
severely, although they remain largely unaware of it. For example, the male
tendency to fall asleep after ejaculation is a prime example of complete
exhaustion. If orgasm in itself were so exhausting, then women would feel the
same effects from it. However, it is the physical ejection of semen from the
body - not orgasm - that harms men.
Hormones and Health
Chinese physicians pinpoint what
they call the "kidney glands," (shen-hsien), as the key regulators of sexual
potency, especially in men. These glands, which straddle the tops of both
kidneys like hats, are called the "suprarenal glands, in Western terminology. The suprarenals, also known as the adrenal cortex, produce a variety of
hormones of vital importance to various metabolic processes and biological
functions. In both male and female organisms, adrenal hormones include small
but physiologically significant amounts of androgens, (male hormones), and
relatively minute quantities of estrogen, (female hormones). These sex
hormones, of Yin and Yang "essences" regulate the secretions of all other sex
glands such as the ovaries, testes, prostate and also influence secretions
from the pituitary, pineal and thyroid glands. It is the balance, not the
quantity of these microscopic elements of Yin and Yang essence that counts. Insufficient secretion of androgens in the male, for example, results in the
loss of sexual drive and potency. Excessive androgens in the female can cause
such masculinizing effects as beard growth and breast shrinkage. Thus, a
primary goal of Taoist sexual regimen is the enhancement of male and female
hormone secretions in optimum balance. (Reid, p. 287)
William H. Masters and Virginia F.
Johnson concluded in the 1966 publication "Human Sexual Response" that orgasm
had the same basic response pattern regardless of whether the stimulation was
human or mechanical. (Reisman, pp. 133, 134) This theory was expanded in
"Homosexuality in Perspective" (Little, Brown, 1979), in which they proclaimed
that "the inherent facility for orgasm attainment" is identical "regardless of
whether the sexual partner is of the same or opposite gender." (Masters &
Johnson, pp. 404, 405)
But the conclusions were invalid. Their findings were based not on the reality of actual intercourse, but on
physical responses generated in the female by an electric-powered, plastic
phallus - a procedure they called "artificial coition." The use of this
mechanical equipment, for stimulating and photographing intravaginal response,
gave the impression of objectivity. In reality, it was totally naive to
suppose that this sort of sexual robotry could monitor the complexities of
human sexual union, or mimic the stimulation provided by male sex organs which
stimulate both internally and externally simultaneously. (Reisman, p139)
Unfortunately, the claim that sexual
response is identical in any type of sexual activity has given the impression
that a preference for indiscriminate behavior is consistent with our physical
nature. It has inclined many people towards sexual experimentation, and a
romance with promiscuity, that has been disastrous physically, emotionally and
culturally. (Reisman, p. 139)
Psychology aside, the greatest
threat posed to males by homosexual practices are physiological. Anal
penetration, the mutual exchange of Yang sexual fluids, and frequent and
uncontrolled ejaculations are the culprits. Ancient Chinese physicians noted
a pathological condition called "Dragon Yang Syndrome" which occurred
exclusively among promiscuous male homosexuals. "Dragon Yang" (lung-yang) is
a common Chinese euphemism for the English equivalent for the word "gay." Symptoms of this ailment include weakness and fatigue, skin ulcers and boils,
low immunity and impotence. Taoist physicians regarded homosexuality as a
dangerous practice - for several reasons. First of all, Yang is by nature an
active, aggressive force and when two aggressive forces meet, a fundamental
conflict of energies and intentions results. Male homosexuality requires
that one partner yield to the other by adopting the female role, both
physically and psychologically and when this practice becomes a habit it
completely undermines the role of Yang in the natural order. Looking at the
situation of Yang conflict at a scientific level, when the sperm from two
different men are mixed together and placed under microscopic observation,
they are seen fighting one another until one dies off in a disparate struggle
for supremacy. (Reid, p263)
In contrast and in conclusion,
Chinese Taoist tradition has regarded that a man must treasure and conserve
his semen during vaginal intercourse; whenever he does omit it, the loss must
be compensated by absorbing the "essence" of the female’s secretions. That is
why ejaculations through masturbation, homosexual relations or the use of
condoms are regarded as being especially harmful to the Yang essence and
energy of men.
For a man to nurture his energy and
health, he must nourish his Yang essence by absorbing Yin essence. When men
and women indulge freely in sex enhancing their bodily fluids and breathing
each other’s breath, it is like fire and water meeting in such perfect
proportions that neither one defeats each other.
Looking back upon the broad scope of
Chinese history and social development, one can not help but notice the
predominant themes of "health," "sex" and "longevity," cropping up time and
time again, throughout the ages. No other civilization has ever come close to
the same sort of "national longevity" enjoyed by China for almost 5,000 years,
free from the severe pathology and highly resistant to many of the chronic
debilitating diseases that plague and sometimes completely annihilate other
cultures and civilizations. It would seem that the Chinese posses some
valuable secrets about health, sex and longevity from which the rest of the
world stands to benefit. However, they regard, as did Paul in Romans 1:20,
that "truth" is essentially gathered through observation of the natural world
through use of one’s empirical senses and wisdom. Thus, not only have the
ancient Chinese stood to benefit from this information regarding the "Way" in
which to live, but so too can anyone willing to take the way in which the
natural world operates to heart. (Reid, p. 269)
The Kinsey Reports
Not all people throughout history
have held the same, or even similar, views as did the ancient Chinese
physicians. Some, such as the late Alfred C. Kinsey, believed in a sort of
"wardrobe sexuality," where one mixes and matches genders, age groups, species
and partners as if they were simply articles of clothing meant to
psychologically enhance one’s daily wardrobe. In fact, no man in modern times
has shaped public attitude to, and perceptions of, human sexuality more so
than Kinsey. He advocated that all sexual behaviors, once considered deviant,
were normal, while simultaneously declaring that exclusively heterosexuality
was "abnormal" and a product of cultural inhibitions and societal
conditioning.
Written in 1948 and 1953, Kinsey’s
reports, more than any other document in history, have shaped Western
society’s beliefs and understanding about what human sexuality is. They have
defined what people allegedly do sexually, therefore establishing what is
purported to be sexual normalcy.
This can be observed in statements
such as the following: "For most of recorded history, the vast variety of
sexual practices remained shrouded in ignorance. However, in the late 1930’s,
biologist Alfred Kinsey launched a series of surveys on the sexual behaviors
of Americans. The result was the first comprehensive look at sexual
practices, highlighted by publications of his landmark volumes, Sexual
Behavior in the Human Male, and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female."
(Feldman, p 377)
However, few people realize that the
data he presented were not, as claimed, scientific. Nor were the data
representative of societal norms. It is now becoming clear that, in addition
to being highly biased, Kinsey’s results may also have been fraudulent. For
those reasons and because the foundation for some key Kinsey conclusions,
still accepted today as scientific fact, is research conducted on human
subjects illegally and against their will, (unless his research of infant
sexuality was falsified), it has become necessary to call on the scientific
community to reexamine Dr. Kinsey’s sex research effort.
While Kinsey held that all sex was
natural, he argued that the narrow limits prescribed by "society" were
unnatural. Monogamy, fidelity and heterosexuality were all limited and
therefore unnatural - thus, in a sense, immoral and perverse. When Kinsey,
(1948), published his infamous "Kinsey Reports," he argued that no one is
truly heterosexual (Male Report p 634, Female Report, pp. 450-451). His data
didn’t support his theory. Kinsey definitively stated that heterosexuality
was an unnatural, societal imposed condition. He stated that "only the human
mind categorizes and tries to force facts into separated pigeon-holes" (Male
Reports, p. 639). However, he too set his one categories and agenda. Kinsey
created a 7 point scale ranging from 0 - heterosexuality to 7 - homosexuality
with promiscuous, bisexuality as the "perfectly balanced" middleground. Where
a person was placed on this scale was entirely decided by the subjective
judgment of Dr. Kinsey and a few personally trained staff members. Thus,
Kinsey attempted to demonstrate with numbers that "normal" behavior was much
more permissive than conventional wisdom had suspected. (Resiman, p 137)
The Kinsey Reports would have the
masses believe that anyone deciding to forego homosexuality, for heterosexual
relations, was never really homosexual; but instead only bi-sexual. Some
adherents to the Kinsian myth have gone so far as to say that anyone going
from bisexuality to an exclusively heterosexual relationship was never truly
bi-sexual but rather "confused of their true sexuality." However, Kinsey’s
"research," (which included adults masturbating to kiddie porn and supervised
acts of child molestation), is hopelessly flawed; even the estimate that 10%
of the population is homosexual is false. The actual percentage is now, more
reasonably, believed to be closer to 2%. It would appear that Kinsey knew
this, he said only that roughly 10% of the male population has had homosexual
urges at one time, but that only around 4% were exclusively homosexual. A far
cry from the 9 to 25% that collegiate texts such as Understanding Psychology
state in a declarative manner. However, by Kinsey’s definition and
categorization, this 10%, although never engaging sexually with other genders,
can not be considered heterosexual.
John Gagnon has pointed out, "For
‘homosexual’ Kinsey could have substituted any form of sexual activity...He
regarded it all as part of biological potential and mammalian heritage" (Human
Nature, Oct. 1978). Kinsey explains that the human animal developed
"exclusive preferences and patterns of behavior, heterosexual or
homosexual...only with experience, or as a result of social pressure (Female
Report pp. 450-451). It would make one wonder how Kinsey theorized that the
human animal ever "with experience, or as a result of social pressure," "developed" the
"preference" to reproduce" despite the fact that many ancient
civilizations never made the connection between sex and reproduction. Perhaps
we as a species were just really lucky.
However, the most profoundly
shocking findings of both Kinsey Reports were almost totally ignored. These
were Kinsey’s conclusions on child sexuality. Kinsey’s "scientific research"
purported to prove that children were sexual beings, even from infancy, and
that they could, and should, have pleasurable and beneficial sexual
interactions with adult "partners." These partners could lead them into the
proper techniques of fulfilling sexual activity. (Reisman, p 65 )
According to the Kinsey team’s
definition, an assault on a 9-year old girl by a 13-year old male wouldn’t
qualify as child abuse even if the male had reached puberty. The case of a 13
- year old girl raped by a 17-year old male would not constitute sexual abuse,
it would be "adolescent sex play" (Reisman, p 66)
The plethora of moral objections one
might have against the Kinsey research aside there is nothing that appears
more subjectively biased than the manner in which Dr. Kinsey went about his
"surveys." As with all surveys of sexual behavior made up of volunteers, it
is unclear how representative his data are of people who refused to
participate in the study. Kinsey’s sample reflected an over-representation of
college students, young people, well-educated individuals, urban-dwellers, and
people living in Indiana and the North East. However, Kinsey’s former college
friend, Dr. Terman, disagreed that the study was predominated by such
individuals.
"Although he was ostensibly
attempting to find out what average American males were doing sexually, Kinsey
included an extravagant percentage of prison inmates and sex offenders in his
interview sample. This inevitably would distort his findings." Terman
objected to the use of this population, noting that Kinsey had data on more
than 1,200 persons who were convicted of sex offenses" (Terman, ibid.). Terman did not know how many were included in Kinseys 5,3000 male sample, but
it turns out that perhaps most of them were. In his 1972 book, "Dr. Kinsey
and the Institute for Sex Research" (Harper and Row), Pomeroy describes the
efforts of the Kinsey team to interview prison inmates.
"We went to the [prison] records and
got lists of the inmates who were in for various kinds of sex offenses. If the
list was short for some offenses-as incest for example, we took the history
of everybody on it. If it was a long list as for statutory rape, we might
take the history of every fifth or tenth name. Then we cut the pie another
way. We would goto a particular prison workshop and get the history of every
man in the group, whether he was a sex offender or not.
Kinsey claims that he sought out
"volunteers" by getting introductions from persons he befriended, whether
prison inmate "kingpins" or leaders of homosexual groups (Male Reports pp.
38-49). Clearly this is not a process that would lead to a representative
group of average American men.
Kinsey Fraud
The question of statistical
falsification of the Kinsey Reports raises an interesting question: if these
statements are false (and if they were not, they were clearly illegally
performed and in violation of the civil liberties of the unwilling
participants), why would Kinsey falsify them? What did he have vested in the
propagation of these insidious falsehoods? What hidden agenda was he
attempting to forward and what other actions did the acceptance of these
forged results set into motion?
To begin with Kinsey himself was
bi-sexual and also both believed in and practiced pedophilia, or as he
referred to it, "Adult-child relations." These mythological justifications
for what Freud referred to as "outlet sex" have set in motion the "sexual
revolution," the most destructive social and cultural force affecting both the
population and the health of the modern world.
The "sexual revolution," (which most
universally recognize as having begun with Kinsey), has produced chaos without
delivering the freedom individuals were led to expect. The sexual
consequences are everyday news: teenage pregnancy, abortion, child abuse and
the list goes on, seemingly endlessly. The medical consequences are equally
devastating: severe venereal disease epidemics, (some unrecognized by those
unaffected), with untold suffering and a cost to the U.S. economy of several
billion dollars each year. There are additional effects in terms of divorce,
abandoned families, disturbed children, and all the host of social and
psychological consequences that follows these traumas. (Reisman, p 84)
"Gay Rights" as we know it began in
1950 with the Mattachine Society, named after a secret medieval homosexual
society. It was the first American group to call homosexuals an "oppressed
minority." That some insecure heterosexuals have historically abused and
oppressed homosexual segments of human society, is a known fact. It is
neither this nor the respect for the rights and liberties of homosexuals that
one must deny. The Mattachine Society, however, asked more than that
homosexuals be left alone. They insisted that radical restructuring and
changing of society must be undergone in order to accommodate their "needs."
In 1953, the D.C. chapter of the Mattachine Society began intimidation tactics
against the American Psychiatric Association. "Coincidentally" the APA "decided" that homosexuality was no longer to be defined as
"abnormal" sexual
behavior and thus removed it from their list of disorders in 1973.
Often those opposed to same gender
sexual practices are referred to not only as "homophobic," but even as "Nazis"
as well. This is in part due to the fact that the Nazis killed somewhere
around 10,000 homosexuals during World War II. Statistics such as the above
have undeniably placed the homosexual community into the same oppressed minority category as black African descendants and people of Semitic decent. Conversely, what is left out of these statistics, is the fact that Rudolph
Hess, William Shirer and other prominent Nazis were openly homosexual. Hitler
himself, after complaints about "men like them," declared that homosexual
behavior belonged "to the private domain...private life can not be a subject
of scrutiny unless it conflicts with the basic principles of National
Socialist ideology." It was not until the Roehm faction of the Nazis which was
founded by William Shire, became a threat to Hitler’s power, that homosexuals
conveniently became a part of the enemy in 1934, with the purging of the Roehm
SA faction.
Ten years ago, even the most liberal
thought that it was unsuitable to discuss the topic of homosexuality with
children. Nowadays, curriculum teaching about the homosexual lifestyle has
been designed for first graders. Dubbed "Children of the Rainbow," the
curriculum includes "Heather Has Two Mommies," "Daddy’s Roommate" and "Gloria
Goes to Gay Pride." However New York school officials rejected this proposal.
they felt that "trying to tell first graders about homosexuality is like
trying to teach them calculus before they’ve learned grade one arithmetic."
Gay rights advocates claim that
their objective is only to "rescue" children from "homophobic"
though. We are lead to believe that if you oppose homosexuality in anyway it
is simply because you are ignorant, uninformed, uneducated and afraid that
maybe you too might be homosexual, hence the term "homophobia."
Was it simply a desire to "rescue"
America’s youth when homosexual activist Michael Swift wrote in a gay rights
manifesto: "We shall sodomize your sons, we shall seduce them in your
schools...wherever men are together." Many argue that not all homosexual
advocates are as supportive of pedophilia as is Swift. However in a Chicago
meeting of the National Coalition of Gay Organizations held in 1972, point
eleven of their twelve point platform called for the "repeal of all laws
governing the age of sexual consent."
In an interview in the underground
music magazine "Maximum Rock n’ Roll," the editor of a gay rights magazine
boldly declared that anyone opposed to the goals of NAMBLA (the North American
Man-Boy Love Association) is "both homophobic and ageist."
Most homosexual activists believe
that "sexual orientation" - whether one is homosexual, bi-sexual or "straight"
- is decided at birth and is uncontrollable. Dr. John Money, director of
psycho-normal research at John Hopkins University, not only agrees but lumps
pedophilia
into the same category as well by declaring that: "Pedophilia is
not a voluntary choice and there is no know treatment." (Reisman, p 225 ) The implications again, appears to be that "negative social inhibitions" come
into play to interfere with these "sexual proclivities" of youth.
Approval of "loving sexual
relationships" with non-human animals, also, does in fact fall within the
philosophy of "outlet sex." With such a doctrine, there are no limits. (Reisman, p. 45) In Beyond Sexual Freedom, Dr. Socarides gives a fascinating
account of how homosexuality itself came "out of the closet" - progressing
from what was once considered pathology to "alternative lifestyle." At the
very time when a number of psychiatrists were beginning to believe the this
"disorder" involving a "serious change in human relationships" could be
reversed, at least in some cases, an unfortunate chain of events was set into
motion. (Reisman, p 142)
In the March 1975 issue of
Psychology Today, Mark Freedman, a founding member of the Association of Gay
Psychologists, urged readers to believe that homosexuality "can lead to better
than average functioning and to a fuller realization of certain fundamental
values." He noted the advantage for homosexual men of the ability to have sex
without having "to feign love or any other emotion" and the benefits of
"group sex [which] in my opinion, offers pleasures that are impossible for
couples." (Reisman, 142 )
Going back a bit in history, the
homosexual drive for public approval of "an alternative lifestyle" began in
earnest in the early ‘70’s with efforts to portray homosexuality and its
sexual practices as a valid, healthy, equally acceptable "way of life."
Homosexual activists were demanding, even then, that public school sex
education courses taught by homosexuals should present homosexuality as a
healthy alternative with, for example, "gay love stories" available in school
libraries. (Time, Sept. 8, 1975)
In the 1960’s in response to legal
and social persecution, homosexual groups began to form and turn against their
oppressors, and before long against those in the medical profession who
believed homosexuality was a treatable condition. In 1964, the New York
Academy of Medicin’e Committee on Public Health said that "homosexuals have
gone beyond the plane of defensiveness and now argue that their deviancy is a
desirable, noble, preferable way of life." (Socarides, 1977, p13)
Some experts claim that the
increased over-obsessiveness with sexuality in communication and entertainment
medias, (along with the reality that those medias are predominately male
dominated), has caused the drastic increase in sexual violence against women.
The New York Times reported that more than 3,400 women will report being raped
in New York City this year and thousands will be raped and never report it.
The F.B.I. says a woman is raped in the U.S. every six minutes; one out of
every ten women will be raped in her lifetime. (Reisman, p 91)
It is possible to deduce from a host
of current social problems such as venereal disease, teenage pregnancy, child
sex abuse, A.I.D.S., divorce, childhood suicide and so on and so forth, that
society is experiencing a crisis in human values and is reaping the amorality
that the Kinsey led sexual revolution has sewn.
Socarides vainly tried to do
something about this situation by proposing to the Director of the National
Institute of Mental Health the establishing of a national program for the
prevention and treatment of "homosexuality and other sexual disorders." The
aim was to try and aleviate "suffering to ther individual and his family and
address a problem that affected the whole nation." (Reisman, p 142)
Instead the NIMH task force came out
with its report, which prepared the way for the APA decision. Prior to the
APA decision, another task force on homosexuality (of the New York County
District Branch of the APA), composed of psychiatrists affiliated with the
major medical centers in New York City, came out with its findings on this
subject. This report "documented the fact that exclusive homosexuality is a
disorder of psychosexual development," and simultaneously asked for civil
rights for those suffering from the disorder. It was concidered "not
acceptable," however, as Dr. Socarides observed, "The message was coming
through loud and clear, the only report acceptable would have been one which
was not only in favor of civil rights - but one which declared homosexuality
not a psychosexual disorder. (Socarides, 1977 pg 87, 89)
The APA decision on homosexuality
was basically one in favor of the Kinseyan (homosexual) model of sexuality
and against the Freudian (heterosexual) model. Sigmund Freud believed that intercourse between man and woman was the "natural objective of the sex
drive." He considered homosexuality to be "an arrest of sexual development." Also, unlike Kinsey, he classified certain sexual behaviors as "abnormal,"
referring to adult-child sex, for example, as "cowardly" and a "substitute"
form of "outlet sex" for "impotent people." (Reisman, p 143 )
In the period leading up to the
APA’s decision, according to Socarides, "militant homosexual groups continued
to attack any psychiatrist of psychoanalyst who declared to present his
findings as to the psychopathology of homosexuality before national or local
meetings of psychiatrists or in public forums."
Former Kinsey colleague, Paul
Gebhard was on the NIMH Task Force committee, representing what Socarides
calls "the Kinsey - Hopkins faction." In his review of Donald Bayer’s
"Homosexuality and American Psychology: The Politics of Diagnosis," Socarides
states:
"Whatever conspiracy may have
existed had its early origins in the NIMH Task Force on Homosexuality
established in the late 1960’s...I was personally informed by Paul Gebhard, a
member of this commission, that...psychoanalytic clinicians were purposefully
left out of this committee because of our "bias"- a "bias" based upon our
Freudian background. (4, 143)
"On December 14, 1973, the APA Board
of Trustees declared homosexuality ‘normal.’ This decision was ratified by a
small majority of APA members following a letter urging this course signed by
candidates for the APA presidency. As Ronald Bayer relates, what the letter
did not indicate was ‘that it was written, at least in part, by the [National]
Gay Task Force...and funded by contributions the Task Force has raised. Bayer
added: ‘Though each [signer] publicly denied any role in the dissimulation, at
least one...had warned privately that to acknowledge the organizational role
of the gay community would have been the ‘kiss of death.’" (4, p 146)
Four years after the APA decision,
the journal Medical Aspects of Human Sexuality (Nov 1977) published the
results of a survey taken among 2,500 psychiatrists on the subject "current
thinking on homosexuality." BY 69% to 18% (13% uncertain) respondents
answered that homosexuality was "usually a pathological adaptation as opposed
to a normal variation." This result suggests that the political component of
the APA decision process led that body to a position not supported by the
majority of the psychiatric profession. (4, 145)
Quite possibly, the greatest single
victory of the homosexual movement over the past decade has been to shift the
debate from behavior to identity, thus forcing opponents into a position where
they can be seen as attacking the civil rights of homosexual citizens rather
than attacking specific (and as they see it) deviant and unhealthy behavior. (4, 146 )
These facts are merely to aid in
ones awareness that what we hear about sexuality from our families, schools,
religions, etc. Is often based on biased, one-sided thinking. Sexual
edification should always be restricted to the private domain. Many will
choose sexual anarchy over a life and practice of discipline. Words such as
these should never be intended for the masses; for in truth, they are
inconsequential and often none of their concern. However, for the seeker
desiring only unbiased, objective and relevant facts concerning their personal
edification and progression, their will always be those who have treaded the
paths before them, to aid in this journey.
Non-Human Studies in Sexuality
One of the most widely used and
accepted justifications for sexual deviance/abnormality is the reference to
similar behavior exhibited in non-human animals. Thus a study overlooking the
sexual exhibitions of non-humans would be incomplete.
Non-human animals do not all have
the same emotions, any more so than humans do. Just as the behavior of animal
species differs, their feeling lives do differ as well. This is often
overlooked when people argue from non-human examples. "Geese mate for life,"
people declare. Or, "Robins kick their young out of the nest when they’re old
enough to be on their own." "The dog doesn’t stay with the bitch to help
raise the puppies - that’s just the way things are." This wrongly assumes
that all animals are the same and therefore we can draw the same conclusions
about humans. But while geese mate for life, grouse do not. The male geese
mates with as many females as he can and leaves them to raise the young on
their own. The female Tasmanian native hen often mates with two males and the
trio raises the young together. While robins fledge at an early age, condors
stay with their parents for years. Male and female wolves raise their
puppies together. These differences often produce a kind of sociobiology
parlor game in which people attempt to prove points about human behavior they
wish to define as "natural" and "normal" for humans. But evidence that one
species does one thing or feels a certain way does not necessarily mean the
same for all other species thoughts, feelings and actions. Perhaps they do,
perhaps not. (Masson, 1995, p. 8)
That captive and domesticated
animals are in "an unnatural situation" is simply not a valid reason to treat
observations of them less seriously. By this standard humans are in just an
unnatural a situation. We did not evolve in the world in which we live in now
either, with its deferred rewards and strange demands, (sitting in classrooms
or punching timeclocks). All the same, we do not dismiss our emotions as not
existing or inauthentic simply because they do not take place in some small
groups of gatherers in Africa, where human life is thought to have begun. We
are ourselves "domesticated animals." Perhaps this is to account for the
sexual confusion that both some human and non-human’s in captivity seem to
experience. For instance, female Baboons kept together in a cage form a
ridged hierarchy unlike anything seen in the species in the wild. (Masson, p.
6-7)
Chimpanzees - Humankind’s Closest Relative
While the behavior of other species
should by no stretch of the imagination define normal and abnormal behavior,
we can look to the rest of the "animal kingdom" for "universal truths" or
underlying tendencies and principles by which the natural world seems to
operate.
In studying our closest biological
relative, the chimpanzee, which as far as genetic structure goes, has 95% of
the exact same DNA as the human animal, no studies have proved as infamous and
objectively researched than those of Jane Goodall (1972). According to
Goodall, in regards to chimpanzee sexuality:
"Many young girls will show
promiscuous sexual behavior if given the chance. It maybe, in fact, that what
we think of as true love - an emotion that encompasses both the body and the
mind of the beloved, that mellows with time and brings about harmony of
living, that removes all need in the man or woman concerned for another sexual
partner - is, indeed, one of the rarest of human heterosexual relationships.
"Sexual relationships between male
and female chimpanzees are in large part similar to those that can be observed
among many young people in England and America today. In other words,
chimpanzees are very promiscuous, but this does not mean that every female
will accept every male who courts her. (Goodall, p 187)
"Regarding the normal heterosexual
relationships that may develop between human beings and those that may be
observed between chimpanzees. The obvious difference between the two species
lies in the fact that men and women are capable of establishing and
maintaining monogamous relationships both physically and spiritual of long
duration, and this sort of bond is not known in the chimpanzee. Monogamy,
however, is far from being the only relationship found between men and women. Actually, human males the world over tend to be promiscuous. In some cultures
this is acceptable and men are permitted or even expected to have more than
one wife. In other societies, where monogamy is the rule, it is never the
less an acknowledged fact that unmarried and even married males will indulge
in love affairs or pick up women for a night or visit brothels. (Goodall, p.
187)
"Never, however, have we seen
anything that could be regarded as homosexuality, in chimpanzees. Admittedly
a male may mount another in moments of stress or excitement, clasping the
other around the waist, and he may even make thrusting movements of the
pelvis, but there is no intromission. It is true, also that a male may try to
calm himself or another male by reaching out to touch or pat the other’s
genitals; while we still have much to learn about this type of behavior, it
certainly does not imply homosexuality. He does this in moments of stress and
he will touch or pat a female on her genitals in exactly the same context." (Goodall, p. 186)
The female Bonobo monkey is a
similar case in point, whose calming and reassuring non-sexual behavior has
been exploited by human beings with a hidden agenda of promoting their sexual
lifestyles.
"Females display much
pseudo-copulatory behavior especially genito-genital (GG) rubbing, in which
the females rapidly rub their perinea together. At times of group excitement, GG-rubbing frequently occurs often followed by the participants feeding in
close proximity." (McGrew, 1996, p. 177)
Is GG-rubbing sexual behavior? This depends on
the definition of sexual behavior. Kano, (1989), stated that
GG-rubbing is reassurance between females, and he pointed out that GG-rubbing
was frequent in the feeding periods when Bonobos were forced to lessen
inter-individual distances, rather than in resting periods. Female Bonobos
are, on average, not homosexual. This is aside from the reality that when GG-rubbing occurs, the females are not maximally swollen. This is unheard of
in any sexual contact of their species. Thus it most likely functions to
decrease social tension between females, as Kano supposed. (McGrew, p. 177)
Rape
At Wamba, all observed copulation’s
are opportunistic, (Kano 1989), and they tend to be initiated by males rather
than by females. Of 101 copulations, 62% were initiated by a male’s display
or approach, 26% were initiated by a female’s approach or solicitations, and
in 12% it was impossible to judge which gender initiated (Kano, 1989). Thus
coinciding with the Taoist held belief that masculine forces, (Yang), are
initiatory, instigate and are active. But how far was "initiation" intended
to go?
Rape, a sexual form of aggression, has appeared to have been observed in some animals. Biologists have observed
what they believe to be forcible rape in orangutans, dolphins, seals, big horn
sheep, wild horses and some birds. In Arizona, an attempted rape was observed
in coatimindis (long-nosed raccoon like animals). However, it does appear
that, in none of these species does rape appear to be the accepted norm. (Masson, p 141)
Among waterfowl like mallards,
pintail and teal, an unwilling female is occasionally pursued by one or more
males, which can result in her death by drowning when many males try to pile
on. She will fight back and flee, but their efforts at defense do not always
succeed. In addition, the male of a pair of mallards will sometimes attempt
to mate with the female immediately after what appears to be a "rape" attempt
by another male. These mating attempts may not be preceded by the usual
mutual displays of mated pairs. In most cases "the female visibly struggled,
but in no case did she flee." The socio-biological explanation for such
marital response is that it gives the mates sperm a better chance of competing
with the alleged "rapists" sperm. It sheds no light on how the male or
female birds feel. Nor does such behavior provide any evidence whatsoever that
this is a non-human version of the human domination oriented sexual deviance
known as rape. Similarly, this does not begin to prove, even if these
observations are rape, that rape is "normal," biologically determined, or
reproductively advantageous for the human species. None of us can communicate
with the species in question and thus have absolutely no idea as to whether
the sex was truly forced or rather, the manner in which their species has
heterosexual intercourse. At best the question as to whether or not rape
occurs in other species is unanswerable and altogether aside from the
observable fact that rape pathologically impairs the function and evolution of
human society. (Masson, p. 141)
Human Sexual Relations
We have already discussed in great
depth, the sexual response of human beings both female and male, homo and
heterosexual. As far as monogamy as opposed to polygamy is concerned,
regarding human beings, in heterosexual men it is predominantly correlated
with the culture that one is raised in. In some cultures and socio-regions,
polygamy is a virtual necessity for the survival of the species, (as it
appears to be with most higher primates), in the said region. In others it is
not only unnecessary, but it leads to population explosion, left unchecked and
unbalanced, and diseases spread on an epidemic scale. For instance in
pre-industrial African societies, where disease and harsh regional conditions
contribute greatly to massive scale death tolls, polygamy lends a helping hand
in keeping the number of offspring up. It is severely detrimental to the
health of the woman if children are born unto her between intervals shorter
than approximately two years. Perhaps it is for that reason that lactation,
(which naturally occurs for two years), dramatically decreases the probability
of conception. Many children, in the harsh African environment, die within
the first year of their life. The infant mortality rate is so astronomic that
mothers do not even allow themselves to develop emotional bonds with the
infants until they have reached about the age of three years old. Thus, men
having multiple lifetime partners benefits the species by producing more
healthy babies at evenly spaced intervals, and benefits the families of
females by receiving "payment" from the grooms family when their daughter is
wed. Reproduction is the greatest historical African commodity.
In other cultures polygamy is an
unnecessary representation of excess and promiscuity. In the West, the most
common form of polygamy is found in so-called "serial monogamy," wherein an
individual can divorce or break up with woman after woman, with no lasting
sense of commitment. Similarly, Western polygamy generally tends to be of the
sort wherein a man can maintain a sense of legitimacy to his marriage, while
cheating on his wife behind her back. This is altogether different than the
traditionally practiced polygamy or "co-wifery" practiced in many Eastern, and
more ancient cultures. Thus in modernist, Western culture our distorted
rendition of this institution does lead to overpopulation and in our culture
(and in other cultures grown accustomed to the unnecessity of polygamy)
jealousy, divorce, unwanted pregnancy and what results from it - abortion,
child abuse, sexually transmitted diseases and the like.
Regarding homosexual polygamy verses
monogamy, according to Bell and Weinbergs classic 1978 study ,(Homosexuality:
A study of Diversity Among Men and Women), most homosexuals were reporting
having more that 250 lifetime partners, almost 30% were reporting 1,000 or
more. On the average homosexual AIDS victims had 50 different sexual partners in the past 12 months" (Time, July 4 1983). As far as biological
legitimacy for homosexual monogamy or polygamy, there appears to be none for
either.
Pedophilia
Pedophilia and incest appear to be
following in the social footsteps of homosexuality. Quoting sex research
historian Edward Brecher, James Ramey wrote in 1979 that, "After the
homosexual taboo began to break down incest as the last social taboo would
soon follow suit." According to Ramey, "We are roughly in the same position
today regarding incest as we were a hundred years ago with respect to our
fear of masturbation." (SIECUS Report May, 1979, p.1)
Clearly, those who practice it are striving to
present pedophilia as a potential "orientation" for the
future. Many of its academic sympathizers are still in the woodwork, but
pioneering spirits are following the same subtle path that is accomplishing
the normalization of homosexuality. One milestone to watch for will be
the appearance of the word "pedophobic." We haven’t quite got that far yet,
expressions like "age-free affection" and similar euphemisms are beginning to
appear from the lips and pens of academic sexologists. Things have gone even
further in recent times. One contemporary sex education text, "Boys and
Sex," (Pelican Books, 1981), by Kinsey co-author Wardell Pomeroy, suggests the
naturalness of sex between adolescents and non-human animals:
"What would happen if a boy had
intercourse with an animal? About one of five who lived on farms or else
visit one during summer vacation have intercourse, or attempt it with
non-human animals...ponies, calves, sheep, pigs, even chickens or duck. Dogs
are also commonly used, but cats rarely...[Some] build a strong sexual
relationship with an animal and...felt good about their behavior until they
got to college, where they learned for the first time that what they had done
was "abnormal." Then they were upset and thought of themselves as some kind
of monster ( Pomeroy, pp. 134-135)
According to some, no matter how
bizarre an activity as long as it does not cause guilt or personal distress in
the individual, then it is considered normal, healthy and natural. However
such justifications for deviant sexual behavior not only justifies the
habitual practice of sexual dysfunction’s but also provides justification for
drug use (of any kind), self mutilation, alcoholism, gluttonously unhealthy
eating habits and/or anorexia and bulimia so long as the individual feels all
right about such abnormal and self destructive behavior.
Pornography
According to the center for Mental
Health Services, 42% of all women who are murdered in the United States are
killed by their husbands. Every 15 seconds a woman in this country is beaten
and every 6 minutes a woman is raped. According to a government report 98% of
rapists will not be apprehended, convicted or incarcerated! This society that
we live in is at its climactic point of moral decay. But what causes it? Are
rapists born or made? What makes a man feel that he has superiority over a
woman?
Pornography is addictive; just as
with racism and speciesism there can not be one simple answer as to what
causes such injustices. There are, in fact, many things that contribute to
them. In the case of sexism, and degraded perception of others, pornography
is a big contributor. Pornography turns people into abusers of others for
personal pleasure and profit. Men become addicted to lustful images and then
act them out in violent and sickening ways. Women become the tragic victims
of these fantasies acted out. Children become innocent victims of
unimaginable molestation and perversion. Pornography subtly winds around its
users an ever-tightening chain of bondage warping a potentially beautiful
expression of love and tool of life into a capitalistic vice of extravagance
which enslaves one to their own sexual instincts.
Following natural and healthy
instincts is a beautiful thing. It helps to keep our bodies and minds in tune
and in balance with the Force that gives and sustains our being. However,
when any aspect of life is taken to a warped extreme and is out of balance,
then drastic consequences follow. Certainly broken families, single mothers,
millions of rape and molestation victims are the tragic consequences which our
deviated actions have sewn.
It can be argued that sex is natural
so therefore pornography is natural and healthy also. Sex is natural and in
its proper context it is healthy too. We are not speaking of sex when we say
pornography, we are speaking of self-indulgent obsession. Eating too is
natural, however it would seem a little odd if a culture paid to watch someone
wheel out a platter of food and unveil it while the onlookers salivated and
paid money just to be tantalized by the food for a brief second!
Pornography is often degrading to
those who participate in it and to human sexuality in general. It exploits
and dehumanizes women as discardable tools for the satisfaction of male lust,
and children are abused mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually to
satisfy the hedonistic urges of pedophilia. Women and children, when
molested and cast aside, are left with indelible scars for the rest of their
lives, with children often growing up to continue this cycle of hate as they
are taught that this is the way things are. Real people are not seen as
individuals, rather as a tool for a selfish means. Women are looked at like
the depersonalized flesh that sits packaged all nice and neatly in our local
super market. Pornography is quite possibly the largest contributor to the
escalating degradation of women in our culture! It teaches us to judge
individuals based upon their "assets," or rather by what gratification they
can provide us with.
Pornography is an oppressive
industry; just like African slavery and just like animal agriculture, its
industry is slavery. All are motivated by selfish interest and all cast
aside their victims without a care in the world as to their well being.
Despite the fact that some participants in this cycle of oppression have come
to tolerate or even in some cases "enjoy" the oppression does not down play
the fact that it is nonetheless still oppression. Some African slaves learned
to love their "masters" and to even "enjoy" the work that was forced upon
them. Some horses can learn to seemingly "enjoy" serving their rider and can
develop a kind of bond for them. The fact remains that, at one point, their
spirit had to be broken, their true nature had to be stripped of them. The
same holds true for pornography. Because some can masochistically turn this
pain into pleasure does not change the fact that it was a situation that they
were most likely "forced" into for financial reasons. Those who seek
financial betterment at the expense of others, see a demand and in turn they
supply this demand by taking advantage of women who might need to support a
family or to pay their way through school. Pornography and greed feed upon
each other. The pornography industry takes advantage of people for personal
gain, regardless of the destructive impact. Both producer and seller reap
huge profits due to exorbitant mark ups. The coffers of organized crime are
filled with tax-free gains from pornography sales. All the while the
blossoming libido of a confused teenager or that of a "dirty old man" plays
right into the hands of big business acting as psychological drug lords.
Pornography is anti-sex. Pornography promotes physical satisfaction without caring love. It is sex
without responsibility, union without the obligation of consequences, and exercise of the mating privilege without reward to the immediate partner. Pornography is plain and simply out of balance. In terms of Yin and Yang
sexual energies and fluids, there is no Yin sexual counterpart. The
counterpart is an illusion. Thus making pornography, (and the masturbatory
fantasies that were meant to accompany it), not really sex at all Rather a
cheap substitute for sex, or an "illusion" of sex. In this case pornography
actually destroys the physical health of the male participant, as his "Yang
Chi" sexual essence is drained of him with no female "Yin Chi" essence to
complement and balance it, (thus depleting his body of zinc and a myriad of
other minerals that help to compose the bodies cerebral fluid).
The question isn’t "What’s wrong
with pornography," the real question is "What isn’t wrong with pornography!" Pornography destroys normal human relationships. It dictates that
satisfaction of one’s own desires is all that matters. It leaves in its wake
broken marriages, estranged and molested children, shattered young people and
deteriorating neighborhoods. The producers, promoters and participants
couldn’t care less.
What Do We Know About Sexuality Now?
From their first appearance the
Kinsey Reports were, to say the least, controversial, but this was not
necessarily proof that they were wrong. The sheer volume of collected and
reported data was enough to ensure a reception in the academic community since
nothing like it had ever been attempted before. A strong semblance of
scientific reality flowed from the taxonomist turned student of human sexual
behavior. An air of authenticity was created by claims of careful sampling
techniques and massive sample numbers. Yet criticism arose at once, not only
from those with moral objections who expressed outrage, but also from those
among professional peers such as the medical profession and statisticians
(Reisman, p vii).
None the less, there was a large
body of professionals who wanted to believe the Kinseyan findings and were
ready to absorb his interpretations. The Kinsey Reports have become the
starting points for subsequent sex research. Textbooks quote Kinsey’s
findings as if they were undisputed truth. One cannot help but be reminded
of the Piltdown Man fraud, or the scandalous construction of data by Sir Cyril
Burt relating to the inheritance of intelligence, which set back research for
a generation, as it was only later revealed to be fabricated.
With Kinsey, the issues are more
serious. Very basic questions such as the true nature of sexuality, the
relationship between heterosexuality and homosexuality, and the sexual
development of children are all addressed in an authoritative manner. His
views or morality (or amorality) are superimposed on the data which was a far
cry from impartial and unbiased. As far as surveying techniques go, prison
inmates with a history of sexual convictions are a far cry from a
representative body of volunteers for the late ‘40’s to early ‘50’s American
man.
College psychology students are
given strict education guidelines regarding surveying techniques including the
absence of "leading questions" which the Kinsey Reports were almost
exclusively based upon. Ironically enough, no man in modern times has shaped
(or warped) public opinions, and perceptions of, human sexuality more so than
the late Alfred Kinsey. In the wake of these startling revelations of the
fraudulent and biased Kinseyan "research" we are left with no other option than
to question and then outrightly reject them. Similarly, we must do likewise
with the theories that have been built upon their broken foundation over what
has now been nearly half of a sexually degenerative century.
Kinsey concocted a "sexual
orientation scale" or continuum with "exclusively homosexual" at one end and
"exclusively heterosexual" at the other with bisexuals presented as the
balance between the two. Kinsey argued that exclusive heterosexuality was
actually a rarity and a product of repression of the true self’s sexual
desires. It would seem at first glance that these theories were logical and
accurate in keeping with Kinsey’s belief, (that was later shared by Masters
and Johnson), of the universality, (and equality), of orgasm. That is, an
orgasm is an orgasm no matter how it was obtained or by who and is equally as
pleasure invoking as any other. Again this seems to be keeping with the
Freudian ethics of the id, which "exists at birth and contains all of the
basic life instincts - basic needs like hunger, thirst, and the need for
sex...fueled by [a form of energy] called the libido." (Philipchalk,
McConnell, p 441) Freud said, "Originally, to be sure, everything was id." By this phrase, Freud meant that the id is the most primitive portion of the
personality existing independently for a very short time after birth, a time
when communication and cognitive skills are at the lowest stage of development
where the survival of the individual creature is dependent upon the raw,
unadulterated, pleasure principle following id, crying out for "immediate
satisfaction" no matter what.
This seems to be keeping with the
Kinseyan advocation that the sexuality of the young infant was "unspoiled"
since the child could respond to any form of stimulus without judging the
source. According to one time Kinsey Institute researcher John H. Gagnon, the
later development of diverse forms of sexual "preference" indicates a variety
of human "sexualities" which are based upon learning experience and now are
to be considered unnatural. (Gagnon, "Science and the Politics of Pathology"
Journal of Sex Reseach 23 [1]: 120-123, 1987)
What Kinsey failed to realize and
Freud acknowledged is that, "Left to its greedy self, the id would soon
destroy itself and the individual." However, Freud said that at a very early
age the ego begins to differentiate between fantasy and reality and scans the
environment for "real" gratification. Where as before a child might
satisfy
the urge to be feed by sucking on it’s thumb, now it seeks for the "real"
fulfillment. "The ego tries to satisfy the childish demands of the id in a
realistic way." (Philipchalk, McConnell, p 442)
In the same way as the child would
repudiate the inferior pleasure of "thumb-sucking" so too would it seek out
"real" sexual satisfaction with the dawning of the Genital Phase, in which,
biologically speaking, heterosexual vaginal intercourse simultaneously
stimulates a greater number of the genital nerve receptors, (in both the male
and female genitalia), than any other type of quasi-sexual act, while at the
same time providing the path of least sexual resistance. Where as
penetration of the vagina requires a relatively small amount of force, it
does not produce unrelenting "tears" internally and requires no outside source
of lubrication aside from that which is produced by the participating
individual’s bodies. Statistically, 100% of sexually experienced females
surveyed reported that, with the same duration and intensity, vaginal
penetration is the superior form of sexual stimulation.
Biologically speaking, this is
elementary. As the child grows into adulthood, with true biological adulthood
beginning with the onset of puberty, the vaginal intercourse [form of] sexual
stimulation becomes the epitome of sexual stimulation which the oral, anal,
phallic, latency and genital period had been building up to in climax. This
serves the most fundamental aspects of natural law: survival. For the act of
sexual stimulation providing stimulation to the most sensory receptors,
providing the least physical resistance (in healthy individuals) is the only
one that can result in reproduction, the continuation for the species and thus
survival.
Hence intercourse through any other
orifice is a subconscious attempt to conquer or override Nature and suppress
the reason of the ego in an attempt to blindly pursue the pleasure principle
down the path of destruction. Thus satisfying the Freudian belief in thanatos
or death-forwarding, pathological instinct. The "disorganizing instinct that
strives to destroy the integrity of the personality and to move the organism
down "its own path to death."
Thus bringing us to the ancient
Chinese Taoist views which deduce that in order to ensure the survival of the
species, the female has been fashioned as a superior specimen uniquely
equipped for the survival and propagation of the species. The female, during
sexual intercourse, does not "give off" her sexual essence, (or fluids), but
instead reabsorbs most of it while the male gives of his life-giving essence,
(forwarding him towards "death"), for the greater good of the survival of the
species. This can be observed in the fact that woman generally live about 5
to 10 years longer than do men. Among many orders of insects, such as the
black widow and preying mantis, the moment the male deposits his seed in the
female, for all practical purposes, his use value has been expended. He is
left weak and lethargic, (more so than in humans), she promptly kills and
devours him as a post-coital snack. (Reid, p. 259)
This "Law of the Jungle" provides
little disaster for larger animals who engage in sexual intercourse only
seasonally. However, several other species, who engage in sex all year long,
day or night, in any season or whether, this can prove to be a great problem
for the individual male’s health and longevity and thus another manifestation
of thanatos. This too is flawed, the mentality of conventional human sexual
relations, where in, the male ejaculates every time he has intercourse,
regardless of his age or condition. This habit gradually robs him of his
primary source of immunity and vitality, lowering testosterone levels, growth
hormone release regulation, amino acid L-Arginine and zinc, leaving him weak
and vulnerable to disease while shorting his life-span. This conventional
intercourse is in essence a thanatopic urge to gain a short term pleasure at
the cost of the males "life."
In the words of Taoist philosopher
Daniel P. Reid: "For a man to nurture his male powers, he must nourish his
Yang essence (male sex fluids) by absorbing Yin essence (female sex fluids).
When men and women indulge freely in sex, exchanging their bodily fluids and
breathing each others breath, it is like fire and water meeting in such
perfect proportions that neither one defeats the other."
He continues by stating: "A man
must treasure and conserve his semen essence during intercourse; whenever he
does emit it, the loss must be compensated by absorbing the "essence" (or
fluids) of the woman’s secretions. That is why ejaculations through
masturbation or homosexual relations are regarded as being especially harmful
to the Yang essence and energy." (Reid, p 264)
Chinese physicians regarded
homosexuality as a "dangerous practice" - for several reasons. First of all,
masculine forces, by Nature, are active, aggressive and when the two meet,
(such as two positive poles of a magnet), a fundamental conflict of energies
and intentions results. Male homosexuality requires that one partner yield to
the other by adopting the female role, both physically and psychologically and
when the practice becomes a habit it completely undermines the role of Yang in
the order of Nature. Looking at this situation from a microscopic-scientific
level, when the sperm from two different men are mixed together and observed
under magnification, they may clearly be observed fighting one another in a
desperate struggle for supremacy.
All of that aside, the greatest
threat posed to men by homosexual relations are physiological. Anal
penetration, the mutual exchange of male sex fluids and frequent uncontrolled
ejaculations are the culprits. Symptoms recorded by Chinese physicians of
"Dragon-Yang" Syndrome include; "Weakness and fatigue, skin ulcers, low
immunity and impotence." This was observed only among homosexuals.
If education in the art of healthy
living is still possible, then finding a better word for "values" seems to
make sense, as too often this expression is seen as the property of the
"Religious Right," (often neither "religious" nor "right"). This is highly
unfortunate because the concept belongs to all of society and is integral to
its health and survival. It belongs to the Left and the Center also, to
"non-religious" as well as the "religious." The stumbling block may be that
the most successful social codes in history were some of the same ones handed
down in the Judeo-Christian heritage. But they are not unique to that
heritage. As Willard Ariel Durant pointed out in the book "The Lessons of
History" (Simon and Schulster, 1968), a larger knowledge of history stresses
the universality of these codes and "concludes to their necessity." They are
actually matters of health more than "morality," which is another way of
expressing that health and true morality are much of the same things (Reisman,
p. 116)
What happened in the rush to sexual
freedom was not the discovery of a new free and imaginative society, but
throwing out the baby (necessary codes of conduct for a healthy society) with
the bath water (Victorian prudery, repression and hypocrisy). (Reisman, p.
84)
Conclusion
Clearly sexual relations between man
and woman are the primary Earthly manifestations of the universal principles
of negative and positive energies, (Yin and Yang). As such, sex should be
regarded as natural and indispensable to human health and longevity as rain
falling upon the fields is to plant life. The intense sense of guilt attached
to sexual matters, in the midst of the Judeo-Christian tradition is one of the
most unpleasant and incomprehensible aspects of Western culture.
Without a doubt, the results of this
study have far stretching implications. As Freud and Jung argued, most forms
of crime and other anti-social behavior can be traced back to some form of
sexual dysfunction or frustration. Those who learn and practice sexual
balance will thus be making concrete and lasting contributions to the harmony
of Yin and Yang on a grand scale, promoting social order and harmony even as
they promote their own health and happiness.
However, the right thing is rarely
the same as that which is easily accepted or of general appeal to the masses. The tendencies, upon which reality operates, will not change and could not;
even if that was what we all desired. The true Way has existed since the dawn
of time; it is that which springs forth from the root of creation.
Living one’s life in accordance to
the natural law, when aspects of that law are neither enforced nor encouraged
by society, culture or tradition and instead opposes the mainstream
"morality," is not an easy thing to do. In this case there is no penalty for
perjury, no punishment for non-obedience. When the mind compromises enough
to break the law laid forth all it has to do is justify the crime. To have
the choice of right and wrong rest solely on an individuals shoulders, to be
the only gatekeeper of their own morality is a heavy responsibility.
Fundamentally, it can be said that
intercourse exists for procreation. That is to say it came into being for
that purpose alone. The pleasurable component of sex, the natural attraction
between men and women and the instinctual drive to engage in sexual activity
are to ensure the continuation of the cycle of life. Sexual attraction to
other species of animals, prepubescent children and the same sex are obvious
deviations from that natural order of things where sex is maintained in a
balance, existing within a framework of the life-cycle.
So too deviated, is the obsessive,
addictive and domination oriented qualities of much heterosexual sex, where the incessant drive to engage in intercourse is not rooted in the instinctual
urge to reproduce and the internal drive pushing one to achieve oneness,
(completing the balance of energies), with their natural counterpart. Rather,
They are based upon self-centered desire where each partner sees the other as merely a tool for their own gratification - having no real connection to each
other and no place in the grand scale of things.
Thus, it is imperative to remain not
against sexual relations, but rather against imbalance and excessive behavior;
whether in the realm of sexuality or any other facet of human existence. The
intense sense of guilt attached to sex, that leads many to find comfort in
negation and self-denial as they claim they "lost" their virginity rather than claiming to have "given" it to their partner, is usually due to cultural
standards and biases or to one’s body warning them to cease behavior that is
unbalanced and destructive. For example, "post-coital blues" is the male’s
body attempting to show the man that his destructive behavior, that excessive
depletion of his sexual essence, must stop. For, if he does not, he will
further the irreversible detrimental side effects to his health, caused by
such activity.
The sexual drive, the physical
attraction between man and woman, and the resulting sexual activity, are
completely natural feeling and activities which are found in all animals. The
sexual drive is one of the purest instincts we have left, when unadulterated
by our surrounding societys, often false, value systems. Sexuality is not
about false human perception of law and morality. It is about living by the
natural law - where morality is dictated by the natural order of things and
maintaining and realizing the state of perfect equilibrium, that is possible
within each of us.
It has been made clear through the
observations and analysis of Kinseyan "research" and of the inevitable biases
of the religious right and the "gay rights" movement, that these detractors of
harmonious sexuality have made outlandish statements in a fleeting attempt to
shift both the attention and guilt away from their own detrimental acts, onto
those who should have absolutely no need to worry about, nor to defend their
sexuality and practices.
Whether the goal is conception or
prevention, the key is control. In both cases, human nature and "mother"
Nature should be harmonized towards the desired goal without going against the
grain of the true path. Clearly, we have seen the necessity of redefining the
terms "normal" and "abnormal" as there can be either good or bad deviations
from the norm. Our actions and lifestyles should be based upon and
constructed around living by the natural law.
Despite what sex has become in
today’s society, (that strives to segregate itself from the natural order),
it originally came into being for the purpose of procreating the species. However, sex for pleasure is as natural, and potentially healthy, as is eating
for pleasure. While eating is to ensure proper nourishment of the body, so
too is sex to ensure the continuation of the species. However, if we have
already attained the RDA requirements for Vitamin C, (for instance), and have
a craving for an orange, it would be insane to deny ourselves that which is of
no detriment, in the name of "self-discipline" alone.
Women and men are the natural
counterparts of each other and are the only pair that fit a match while
maintaining such an equilibrium of energies. Not Yin alone, not Yang alone. Yin and Yang, female and male.
Our abstinence from certain behavior
should not be based upon abstinence for the sake of itself. Behavior should
not be rejected because it may hold pleasure for some; it should be rejected
on the grounds that it is unnatural, unhealthy and self-destructive. Pleasurable activity which is physiologically and psychologically healthy,
must be embraced. Discipline is only of worth when it helps one walk free of
the harmful ways of self destruction. To allow that discipline to deny us
even that which is "normal" and good, would be to let the darkness that lurks
within the human psyche, (the fear of living that leads many to find comfort
in negation and self-denial), win; for in our struggle for purity and a better
world, we would have stopped living ourselves.
Normality and abnormality must
be defined in terms of idealism, with the standard
for perfection and normality lying in behavior that
coincides with natural law. That being: behavior
that does not cause emotional or physical distress to
others or the individual on a psychological and/or
physiological level, which (at least initially)
seems to be the causation of guilt and remorse which
can only be overcome and (eternally) suppressed by
the self or surrounding influences Jerome Wakefiled’s definition
seems to fit best:
"A condition is a disorder if...the
condition causes some harm or deprivation of benefit to the person as judged
by the standards of the person’s culture...and the condition results from the
inability of some mental mechanism to perform its natural function." (Wakefeild, 1992 , p. 385)
Clearly, the submission of a male to
the role of a female and/or a female playing the role of a man with the use of
a surrogate phallus, can easily be observed and defined as both a physical
and "mental mechanism" performing "its natural function," in an inferior manner.
Therefore, we should not oppose
sex. Rather we should be against certain deviation of that act and some
contexts in which they occurs. The pure attraction between woman and man, and
that which occurs between them, should not be restricted for it is the natural
plan.
All of these realities come from the
understanding that there is a better way to live. That beyond human
subjectivity exists an objective Truth that is the Way on which humankind is
designed to tread. Empirical study, and contemplative reasoning are essential
tools on this path of progression. However, just as importantly we must look
within, where the roadmap to life on the true path lies. Here our instinctual
knowledge lies dormant, ready to be awakened by all who seek such ends. Only
will a people that accepts these realities and lives accordingly ever have
peace and harmony. It’s time now, in the wake of the social holocaust of the
failed sexual revolution, to return to the roots of the land, and of
creation. Man and woman in union with each other and their surroundings, the
Way it must be.. The Way it is.
