KARATE - THE SELF DEFENCE

Karate, one of the best martial arts which is learned by most of the girls in the world. Karate is a Japanese martial art, which literally means "Empty hand". In Karate girls can be taught, how to use both her hands and feet at the right moment for self defence, through the utilization of both traditional and modern training methods.

Sempai Prathyusha, one of the Black Belt instructors of Great Warriors Academy, explains why she joined to learn Karate. First of all the passion for it and to prove that Karate is not a monopoly of men. Now, she has the mental and physical confidence to face the problems independently. She believes that whenever she leads a life without any companions and face any challenge for her security, she can utilize her practical lessons of Karate. She stresses the importance of learning Karate in a modern society. Today, all the media depicts the womenfolk as mere commercial products and thereby leading an utter consumer culture. This social situation paves the way for promoting crimes. Sempai Prathyusha added that this attitude of the media should change. So with the continued practice of Karate, we can improve our abilities, our confidence and thereby ourselves. Listening to her voice, I can hear the confidence of her words, can't you?

Athira, one of the green belt students of our Academy (Govt. Women'sCollege Dojo, TVM), says she had a number of health problems. Now she could reduced her health problems through the practice of Karate. The masters of Karate promise 100% recovery from the diseases like asthma, nervous tension etc and assure a healthy mind and body, and thereby ensure a medicine free life through the practice of Karate.

In the words of the Technical Director of Great Warriors Academy Shihan Shibisudevan NIS (6 Dan black belt, Japan), ladies are joining the Karate class mainly for learning self defense techniques. He has more than 26 years of experience in Karate. Now, 48 Black belt Karate instructors including 15 lady instructors are practicing under him. Shihan Shibisudevan is one of the government Karate Coach (Sports Authority of India) as well as the present Indian team member. He also says, Karate is a vehicle which one can utilize to seek an inner peace. He is directly regulating a Karate class at Government College for Women, TVM and another special batch for ladies at Jimmy George Indoor Stadium. In Kerala, there are many women athletes who train under Sports Authority of India (SAI) through Jimmy George Indoor Stadium with a confidence to achieve the Olympic Gold. SAI, through the NIS coach, is giving special grants to these trainees.

Today, woman can focus her energy into a single explosive moment and can do what she previously believed impossible. She can kick higher than her shoulders. Along with the physical toughness, woman achieve an emotional strength which does not make her proud, but humble. She learns to honour and respect herself and the world around her. The moment she honours her existence, the tradition of honour and respect is established in the society itself which wards off all evils and ill will. It is in this tradition that Karate trains its women disciples. In this context, we can say that, Karate is one of the best weapons in moulding women's personality from a shy girl to a bold girl.
