CSM JAZZ DEPARTMENT
The Christchurch Youth Jazz Ensemble and the Stage Jazz Band are jazz ensembles that are run by the Christchurch School of Music in Christchurch, New Zealand. These two bands give the best big band jazz players in and around Christchurch the chance to play exciting and challenging music with their peers.
1999 was the first year for the Christchurch Youth Jazz Ensemble. Previously the Stage Jazz Band catered for all students but numbers and a widening range of abilities meant we could establish a senior band.
The Intermediate Jazz Band is for students is for intermediate and junior high school age students.
The Junior Jazz Band is a beginners jazz band for primary and intermediate age students.
The Jazz Combo started in 2000 and provides players the chance to learn and perform combo music with an emphasis on improvisation and learning standard jazz repertoire.
