Christchurch Grass Track Kart Club

                                 Rules and Regulations

                                                   (Effective October 2003)

 

Race Grades (A,B,C,J,M)

-Any member may select a grade to suit their kart and their own driving ability.

-The club committee has the right to change the race grade of any member as they

see fit to do so.

-No member will race more than one grade per kart.

-In general Midgets 5yrs - 9yrs,Juniors 10yrs - 15yrs.

-All members 16 yrs and over must race in either A,B or C grade.

 

Pre Race Inspection

-Any kart being built or modified, must be inspected by a scrutineer prior to race day

to be eligible to race. Any kart not up to the specifications listed below will be turned

away until they meet these standards.

 

Overall length

1800x1200 mm maximum

 

Engines

-Must be naturally aspirated (no forced air ,turbo, etc).

-Engine size not to be bigger than 610 cc.Junior 200cc max (no watercooled’s).

-Midgets up to 50cc. Watercooled scooter motors are allowed. No Moto X motors.

-Twin cylinder engines are allowed in senior grades only.

 

Water Cooled

-Water engines must have a new radiator cap and new hose clips.

-Hoses must be in good condition.

-Radiator and hoses must be mounted securely behind the seat.

-Glycol in water cooled engines is prohibited.

 

Wheels

-4 wheels per kart , no duels ,no ATV tires.

-Maximum tire size 455mm high x 135mm wide.

-5 or 6 inch wheels only.

-Maximum tire tread pattern spacing must not be greater than 12mm

-Tires must be grass type tires

-No tire tampering (e.g grooving)

-Stub axles must not protrude past outside of rim.

-Wheel rims must be free from sharp edges & burs.

 

Stub Axles

-Minimum 15mm diameter at inside bearing, minimum 12mm diameter at outside

bearing, front stub axles to be split pin locked.

-Stub axle mounts are to be welded.

 

 

Brakes

-Brake pedal must be of adequate size.

-Foot operated only and must work on rear axle only.

-Foot pedal movement, no more than 30mm of travel at top of the pedal.

 

 

Rear Bumpers

-Not to exceed rear wheel and rim total width.

-Must have rounded corners and be adequately constructed.

-No less than 100mm of total rear wheel base width.

-Must be minimum of 100mm tall.

-Must be of round tubular design with vertical or horizontal bars so that other karts

cannot go between top and bottom bars.

-Must be a minimum of 19mmx1.2mm round tubing.

 

 

Front Bumpers

-Must be of round tubular design with rounded corners.

-Must not exceed the inside turning line of either front tires.

 

 

Side Bars

-Must be fitted and be within 100mm of the front tires

-Must reach past the rear wheel centers, but not protrude outside rear wheels.

-Side bars and engine cannot have any sharp ends.

-Side bars must run parallel to front and rear wheel centers.

-Each side bar must be a closed loop construction and a minimum of 100mm tall.

-Minimum 19mmx 1.2mm round tube.

 

 

Chain Guard

-Must be fitted to cover all of the top of the drive chain ,minimum width of 50mm,

must continue onwards at the rear to the minimum of the axle center and must be able

to deflect the chain downwards in the event of a break.

-Joining link must be open end to the rear at the top of the sprocket.

 

 

 

Fuel Tanks

-Must be securely mounted and leak proof.

-Fuel line must have on/off tap as close to the tank as possible .

-Hose clips on all fuel line connections not cable ties

-Must have a breather and  be designed to completely prevent spillage

-No pressurized tanks

-No battery operated fuel pumps

-Petrol only ( 91,96,100 octane only) no octane boosters , alcohol, methanol , nitro.

 

 

 Kill Switch

-Must be on the steering wheel and be CLEARLY SEEN and WORKING.

-Must be latching on/off type.

 

 

Number Plates

-Must be mounted on all four sides ,190mm square minimum size

-white with black numerals for championship events

-All Christchurch kart numbers must be three digit and start with a 2

 

 

Helmets

-New Zealand Safety standard or I.U.E standard and fitted correctly.

-Must be worn at all time when in Kart.

-Must be in excellent condition.

-Midget grade MUST wear a neck brace.

 

 

Protective Clothing

-Suitable protective footwear, eye protection (racing goggles or full face

helmet lenses ,NOT  sunglasses).

-Race suit or overalls full length and long sleeved and gloves are compulsory.

-No clothing to be worn over top of overalls, no loose clothing, no bare skin.

 

 

Mud Flaps

-Fitted to rear bumper, no higher than 20mm off the ground.

-Must be non-flexible material but not metal.

-Top of the mud flap must be 25mm higher than the top of the tire.

-Any mud flap damaged must be replaced or repaired before next race.

--Must be firm material e.g. conveyor belt rubber.

 

 

 

Exhaust System

-Must be inside the back bumper.

-No louder than 95 dB.

-Must have a spark arrestor fitted.

-Reading of dB will be 15 meters from inside of track.

-Muffler must be fitted – NO exceptions.

 

 

Steering Wheels

-Must be complete circle and of racing type.

-Minimum of 3 x 6mm H.T bolts and lock nut to steering hub.

-Steering boss must be tight on to steering column NO movement.

 

 

Floor Pan

-Must be of suitable non Perforated material and confined within the main frame

and be parallel to the main frame.

-Sealing nuts MUST be on the top of the floor pan.

-Pan must extend from under the seat to forward of the drivers feet.

-No part of the body work shall be nearer to the ground than the floor pan.

 

 

Clutch Levers

-Where hand operated clutches are used they must be situated within 150mm

of steering wheel.

-Karts must have clutches

 

 

Push Bars

-Compulsory for all karts.

-Minimum of 25mm outside diameter round tubing and constructed with no

sharp ends.

-Minimum height of 600mm from top of rear axle.

-Tube thickness minimum 1.6 mm.

 

 

Crashes

-If you spin up breakdown on the track , remain in your  kart with both hands raised

until track is safe., then move kart as quick as possible.

-If you run of the track, you must re enter at the place you left the track, when the

track is clear and safe to do so.

-No unauthorized people on the track.

-Hand signals must be used at all times when stopping or leaving the track.

-Any kart leaving the track must do so safely and with consideration to others.

 

Damaged Karts

-Must be re- scruitineered be fore racing again.

 

Pits

-Karts to be pushed in the  pits area.

-NO driving of karts before drivers breif.

 

Club Track

-There will be no use of the track between meetings.

 

Alcohol

-There will be no alcohol in the pit area  NO DRINK DRIVING

 

Driving

-Deliberate barging, shunting, weaving , blocking ,or team driving will receive

automatic disqualification from race or at the discretion of the Head Marshall 

could suffer greater penalties.

 

 

Abuse

-Any abuse of a official or any other driver or pit crew will result in

 Disqualification.

 

Smoking

-No smoking around karts.

 

Disputes

-If anything is in dispute the Race committee’s decision is final.

 

Junior Karts

-must not be over 200cc

 

Hooning

-There will be no hooning or fast driving off the track 5 kmph speed

limit off  the track

Indemnity

-All drivers must sign indemnity form provided by the Orginizing Club to alleviate

that club, ground owner, sponsers, or officials from any form of claim.

-No visitors to be driving any persons  kart without signing  the indemnity form.

-First time drivers must make race committee aware that they are racing for the first time.

 

Club Championships

-Must compete in 4 consecutive meetings and must be a financial member of the club

before entering the club champs. Other entries at committees discretion.

 

Speedway Meetin

-Due to the high speed at these meetings you must have raced 2 meeting before

racing at the speedway.

-No Midgets or  Juniors unless provision for these classes have been made.

 

General Notes

-Cancellations will be announced at 9:00am on 3ZB if the weather is doubtful.

-Kart numbers may be sold with their  karts , however new karts require a new

designated number from the club secretary to avoid doubling up.

-ALL MEMBERS ARE ALLOCATED A DUTY TEAM AND MUST HELP OUT 

REFUSAL OR AVOIDANCE  WILL RESULT IN MEMBERSHIP TERMANATION

-These rules can be added to and altered at Committee Meetings .

-You must Know all of these rules before racing

-Have SAFE FUN

 

Flags

Green - go

 Red – stop – race stopped, stop kart immediately

Yellow – Caution – slow down and proceed with care , no passing

Black – rolled – Warning, see flag marshal after race

Black – unrolled – Leave track immediately

Red/yellow – Extreme caution, proceed to the start line race stopped

White – Last lap

Chequered – Finish
