Some thoughts on driving with the club champs just around the corner:

  Karting is a non-contact sport.

Repeated or deliberate bumping/pushing is considered dangerous driving…you will be black-flagged.

Do not overtake down the inside of a corner ,

unless you are ahead or level with the outer kart before turning in to the corner. Otherwise, you will hit the kart ahead side-on as it turns in…this is not an acceptable method of overtaking…you will be black-flagged.

The rules for overtaking are not well understood, so here they are again….

Overtaking

All drivers must be considerate and respectful when overtaking another racer and being overtaken by another racer.

A racer will be considered to be challenging for position when the challenging kart is more than ˝ way along the side of the lead kart attempting to be overtaken.

The lead kart will at all times give due consideration and care to a challenging kart by giving sufficient room on the track for the challenging kart to remain on the track without causing the challenging kart to brake heavily to avoid contact.

The racer challenging for the position shall also give due consideration and care to the lead kart involved by not deliberately moving to create contact with the lead kart or by deliberately causing the lead kart to manoeuvre onto a dangerous or off-track position.

The lead driver being challenged for position shall not deliberately move to block the challenging kart or deliberately cut across the front of the challenging kart resulting in the challenging kart being required to break heavily, deviate from the racetrack surface or make contact with the lead kart.

Once a passing manoeuvre has been completed it is the responsibility of the now leading driver to give due consideration to now passed kart. By allowing sufficient racetrack surface for the now passed kart to continue to race without being required to brake heavily, deviate from the racetrack surface or make contact with the now leading kart.

Drivers must also refrain from leaving the racetrack surface to attempt or initiate a pass.

Any driver found guilty of deliberate weaving, blocking, baulking or other deliberate interaction with another competitor causing an incident or adversely effecting a race result will be excluded from the race.

It is up to the duty team on the day to provide a track wide enough (as set out in the rule book) to allow for safe overtaking and racing.

Please keep these rules in mind when you are racing, they will help make everyone’s day more enjoyable.
