Lesson 6
Interstate 4 One Another
“Serving Together”
The Point of the Lesson:
Each child will realize that no one is too young to serve God. God can use children to help others in incredible ways. You don’t have to be an adult to serve God. He gives us all spiritual gifts that we can use to serve Him.
The Power of God’s Word:
By helping each other with your troubles, you truly obey the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 NCV
The Prayer of Each Child:
Lord, I pray that I will see the many ways that I can serve You. Help me use the gifts and talents that I have to serve others. By helping others, we are obeying Your Word. We are also showing others that we are Your followers. This week, I will serve my parents by doing one thing for them without being asked.
Prepare: (Before service)
Squirt bottle
Towel
Goggles for eye protection
One large fishing net for each team
100-200 small plastic fish (or any plastic object that can be tossed into a net)
Preview: (5 minutes)
Welcome from MC:
I love getting my car washed, especially after a long car trip. My car gets so dirty. (Hold up bottle and towel) At the car wash, there are different types of services I can get done. I can get my wheels cleaned, my car vacuumed, or the windows washed. There are different people who do each of these different jobs. They help perform a service for my car.
Object Lesson:
In ministry, there are many different types of service, too. I serve God by being here with you on the weekends. I feel that God has personally asked me to be here with you. He knows that I love to teach kids, and I serve Him by telling you about God. It is my ministry.
Kid Connect Question:
Would you rather be the one who soaps up the car or the one who sprays it with the hose?
Play: (5 minutes)
Goin’ Fishin’!
Each team chooses a leader to go to the front of the room with the net and goggles. A second leader from the team goes with the first leader to toss back the “fish”. When the music starts, the teams toss the fish into the net. The first leader tries to catch as many as s/he can. The fish that don’t make it into the net are tossed back to the kids by the second leader. The kids keep tossing until the music stops. The team with the most “fish” caught in the net, wins. Play a couple rounds.
Transition for MC:
It was great to see teamwork in action. If you weren’t there to help each other out, you wouldn’t have caught very many fish. We are going to hear about a kid who used teamwork to help feed 5,000 people.

Lesson in a Word: Serve
What Should I See?
Jesus saw a great crowd of about 5,000 men coming toward Him. Jesus asked Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” Philip was doubtful. He didn’t think there was any chance of feeding all of the people. Another disciple, Andrew, saw a boy with five small loaves of bread and two fish. He asked Jesus, “How far can this food go?” Andrew was doubtful, too. Jesus then asked His disciples to have all the men sit on the grass. The boy gave his food to Jesus, and Jesus blessed it. They gave thanks and passed the bread and fish to all the men in the crowd. It fed everyone! After they were finished, the disciples gathered twelve more baskets with what was left over. (Source: John 6:5-13)
Memory Verse:
By helping each other with your troubles, you truly obey the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 NCV
What’s The Key?
The boy had no idea what was about to happen. Can you imagine having someone take your small meal and trying to feed 5,000 hungry men? With the faith of the boy and the help from the disciples, Jesus performed a miracle and fed the 5,000! The boy and the disciples served God by helping to feed the people.
What’s That To Me?
There are so many things we can do for others, even though we are kids. We could share our lunch with a friend, do extra chores around the house, or even sign up for a ministry at church. There are many ways we can help at church. Jesus wants to use our gifts and talents to help others in need.
How Should I Be?
We should pray for God to show us ways that we can serve Him. Serving God is a way of showing our obedience to Him. He doesn’t want our gifts and talents to be wasted. He wants us to use them. We need to find things that we are good at and use those things to serve God.
Practice Point:
I will pray for a way,
to help my friends everyday!
