Lesson 3

Interstate 4 One Another

“Reaching Out Together”

The Point of the Lesson:

God created us to reach out to others. Sharing our experiences brings us together. Whatever situations happen in our lives can be used to help point others to God.

The Power of God’s Word:

Be wise in the way you act with people who are not believers, making the most of every opportunity. Colossians 4:5 NCV

The Prayer of Each Child:

Lord, I pray that You will help me reach out to friends and neighbors around me so I may help them get to know You better. Let my actions show how much You really mean to me. Show me how to be sensitive to others. I pray that I could use the experiences that I go through as a way to help others. Give me a desire to invite others who may not know about You to church.

Prepare: (Before service)

Arm sling

20 beach balls

Preview: (5 minutes)

Welcome from MC:

(Come out with arm in sling) Can you believe this?! I tripped over my dog and sprained my wrist. What a bummer! But, it’s not the end of the world. I can’t do as much right now, but I can still come to church and be with my friends.

Object Lesson:

This sling can be annoying at times, but it helps me to slow down and heal. I even understand how someone else who has a broken arm or leg feels. Now, when I see other people in this situation, I will be able to help them.

Kid Connect Question:

Would you rather go on a mission trip to Mexico or help make meals for the poor?

Play: (5 minutes)

Beach Ball Blitz

Divide the kids into two sides. Give each side ten beach balls. When the music plays, each side tries to get all the balls onto the other side. When the music stops, everyone freezes. The side with the least amount of balls, wins. Repeat game if you wish.

Transition for MC:

It’s not easy to get rid of all those beach balls. It takes a lot of work from your whole team. Everyone needs to help out and not just look out for themselves. Today we’ll hear a story about a man who was blinded for a short time, regained his sight, and then saw things differently. God used his circumstances to guide him to a whole new way of thinking.

Lesson in a Word: Share

What Should I See?

At one time, Saul was sure that the followers of Christ were the enemies of God, and he did all that he could to stop them. He put many in prison and even hurt some of them. Sometime later, Saul was headed for Damascus. As he was traveling along the road, a bright light shined down on him. He fell to the ground in fear. God asked Saul why he was persecuting Him. Then He told Saul to get up, go into the city, and wait to be told what to do there. When Saul got up, he could not see! He had to be led into Damascus by other people. He was blind for three days and nights. When he got to Damascus, a man came to him and said, “Saul, receive your sight”. At this time, Saul was able to see again. Saul became a new person and began to share with others all the good things about Jesus. From this point on, Saul was known as Paul. (Source: Acts 22:6-15)

Memory Verse:

Be wise in the way you act with people who are not believers, making the most of every opportunity. Colossians 4:5 NCV

What’s The Key?

God wants us to reach out to others by helping with their needs and telling them about Jesus – just like the story of Saul. Sometimes God causes things to happen in our lives that get our attention and encourage us to get involved and share with others.

What’s That To Me?

God can use us for His purposes. The experiences we go through in life can help us share God with others. The way we treat others will show them God’s love.

How Should I Be?

We can be kind toward the people around us. We can help others by giving our time and resources and helping them when they are in need. We can tell others about God and what He has done in our lives. We can also invite to come to church with us this week.

Practice Point:

There are many ways to show I care,

God’s great love is what I can share.
