It all began with the determination and an inner calling given to Dr. Elizebeth Madsen in the early 150's, who came out as a missionary of the Danish Missionary Society.� As age caught up with her, she wanted to indulge her activities into community health and thus a search for a successor ended in 1975 when she went into full time community health work and Dr. and Mrs. Henry joined to take over the hospital.
The hospital today extends its services in General Medicine, Surgery (about 3000 a year), Obstetric (600 deliveries a year), Eye, Dental, Chaplaincy, Nursing Education, Community Health this includes Primary Health Care, Literacy, the running of a tribal school, and training of other health program professionals), and lastly the New Life English Medium School.
The hospital is self-sufficent in its day to day running but does need help for major developments for which it looks out to many friends who have been of help in the past.
The success of CHB today can be given to the dedication of Dr. Madsen, the dynamic leadership of the Henries, the hard work of the CHB family and the invible hand of God who guided them each step of the way.
