Profile Plots

The following graphs plot the relationships between the independent variables (age, perception of health status,

and beneficiary group) as indicators of the dependent variable (perception of quality of health care received).

Beneficiary group replaces gender in this demonstration of graphically plotting satisfaction survey results.

MAGEGRP * OVERALL HEALTH STATUS * MBENEGRP

Graph 3

Graph 3 shows that overall satisfaction among active duty beneficiaries increases with age for the five categories of health status perception.  However, there is an outlier: the 15 -17 y/o group reporting excellent health appears highly satisfied with care received.  For some reason, those who report excellent health status in the 18 -24 y/o group report significantly less satisfaction with care received.  This finding suggests an additional area for future study to determine factors affecting the difference between these two age groups.

Graph 4

Graph 4 shows similar results to those of Graph 3 for dependents of active duty members.  Satisfaction with health

care received increases with age.  There is also the “spike” in the 15 -17 y/o group, which requires further analysis.

Graph 5

Graph 5 (for retired beneficiaries) shows similar results compared to the others, except that there appears to be more variation within categories of health status perception and across age groups.  Much of this variation may be explained by recognizing that the younger aged retirees represent a much smaller population of respondents (see Table 6 for details).

Graph 6

Graph 6 shows a general pattern of increased satisfaction with care received as age increases among dependents of retirees, but there is also a significant amount of variation, both across reported health status and across age groups.  Analysis of variance for each of these categories would provide more insight into the significance of these findings.
