Frequently Asked Questions: Q: Do I have to re-do the form if I already have an OP Profile up? A: No, but you _may_ complete the form whenever you would like to update your Member Profile. Q: What if I want to update my form? A: Fill out a new form and submit it. Q: What if I make a mistake and only realise after I submit the form? A: Fill the form out and send it again - if you haven't disconnected from the Internet in between times, it is not necessary to //msg NoteOP send Reow $ip again. Q: What if it was only a little mistake? A: /msg NoteOP send Reow I meant to say "" instead of saying "" Q: Will you correct my spelling? A: No, indubitably my Spelling is worse than yours. Also, something may have been deliberately misspelt by you because that is the way you like to spell it; thus I don't touch spelling or grammar. Read over your form before you submit it, if you find a mistake later, NoteOP me to tell me what to fix. Q: Should I put quotation marks ("") around my Favourite Quote and Favourite Question? A: I will if you don't. It's best to do it for me if you only intend part of what you type to be your Favourite Quote, else I have to try to work out what is and isn't. For example, if you put 'There can be only one! NOT', then I'm forced to wonder if the 'NOT' is part of your Favourite Quote, or is meant to come outside the quotation marks to indicate sarcasm. If you have any other quotes in any other sections that you wish to acknowledge, feel free to place quotation marks around them (and a source if necessary). Q: Can I have colour in my Profile? A: I suppose so, but if you come up with anything that isn't in the rainbow I'm going to thump you! :P Seriously though, if you want colour, put 'tags' with the colour in around the part you want in colour. Eg - If you have "I am colourful" and you want the word "colourful" in red, put "I am colourful" If you have a specific shade of red that you want, look up the html code for it and use that instead of the word "red". Q: Is it possible to get the "Webpage" section to display "Bob's Webpage" instead of the actual URL, yet take me to my webpage when I click on it? A: Yes, if you want the Webpage section to display something other than your URL, please type that in quotation marks after the URL. Eg - http://www.geocities.com/chatterz_austnet "The Official #Chatterz Webpage". If you omit the http:// I will add this in for you, if you capitalize any part of the URL I will assume it is capitalized in the actual address (yes, web addresses are case sensitive). If you want your URL to be "http://www.leetspeech.com" but to look like "wWw.LeEtSpEeCh.CoM", then do as I suggested above and input: http://www.leetspeech.com "wWw.LeEtSpEeCh.CoM". Q: I put that "I don't yet have a webpage", but in my Profile on the website there is no "Webpage" section, how come? A: For "ICQ Number", "E-Mail@Address" and "Webpage", if you don't include an actual number/address/site I leave the specific section out. If you want to put "35113082... but I'm always on Invisible!" or the like, then yes I will put the whole lot in. The concept is that this section is your contact details, so if you don't put a contact, there is no point having the section up. Q: Do you omit anything else that we put in out Profiles? A: Not unless it is unacceptable. If you put "Dunno" for a section that you don't have an answer to, it will be placed on the webpage under that section. If you don't have an answer for a question and you don't want anything put there, simply leave it blank. Q: What about the sections marked "[Compulsory]"? A: When I say Compulsory, i mean that it is highly suggested that you fill them in. If you really don't have an answer for them, then no, you don't have to fill them in, but try to fill in a couple of the non-compulsory sections for each of the compulsory sections you omit. The idea is that your Profile should actually contain some information about you for others to see; if you fill in too few sections I won't put your Profile up. Q: What is and isn't acceptable? A: Generally swearing and extreemly course/crass references are a 'no-no'. However, put anything you like, and if it is unacceptable, you will be consulted and it will be edited. Q: If I'm not on much/haven't been in #Chatterz long, can I still fill out a Member Profile Form? A: Anyone who comes to #Chatterz, even if they haven't been there for long or aren't in often, is entitled to have a Member Profile up. Q: Why the //msg NoteOP send Reow $ip? A: This works as a variable password system. Your IP is a unique Internet address given to you every time you connect to the Internet. When you submit a Member Profile Form, your IP is attached to it. When you type //msg NoteOP send Reow $ip your IP is sent to me via NoteOP. I can cross-check these to ensure that it is you who actually submitted the form, not somebody else submitting it under your name. Q: I keep getting: Due to database storage methods, the NOTE MESSAGE cannot contain the '$' symbol What am I doing wrong? A: Use // at the prefix of the message, not / A double forward slash causes the $identifiers to resolve, whereas a / doesnt. If you are still having trouble, type //msg NoteOP send Reow $ip but before pressing Enter, press Tab; this will cause your IP to resolve before the line resolves input. Q: What if I don't use mIRC? A: If you don't use mIRC then chances are the above won't work for you. I have extreemly limited knowledge of IRC clients other than mIRC, but the general idea of the command is that it NoteOPs me your IP. If you have a different method of doing this (eg - you look up your IP manually and then type it into the NoteOP), do it that way. If worst comes to worst, speak to me in Private Message about it and we'll make alternative arrangements. If anyone has knowledge of the equivalent command in a client other than mIRC, please let me know. Q: Who has access to my IP after submitting the form? A: All Administrators (175+ OPs) have access to the E-mail account where your form is stored (IP attached). Administrators are well trusted and do no use your IP for any malicious purposes (if they did, they would be deleted). Your IP can be gained in much more subtle ways than this though. AustNet and all of its administrators have access to your IP, every webpage you visit has access to your IP, most IRC servers do not cloak your IP, etc. For people using dial-up connections, your IP isn't as important to you, as it is dynamic - that is, it changes every time you connect. If you have a static or semi-static IP (Eg. Optus@Home) and do not wish the #Chatterz Administrators to have your IP, please contact me for alternative arrangements. Q: If I have a static or semi-static IP, must I //msg NoteOP send Reow $ip each time I submit a form? A: No. You only need to NoteOP me your IP when you submit a form and your IP has changed since the last time you submitted a form (or you haven't submitted a form previously). If you aren't sure, NoteOP me your IP anyway. Q: When will the Members Page be up? A: It's up. Q: How often will you update the Members Page? A: That depends on what the bribe is! j/k I'll update the Members Page whenever I have the time and there are enough changes to warrant an update. Q: Will any of the Member Profiles ever be taken down. A: Undecided. If you have any thoughts on this issue, please contact me. In particular consider the issues of a Member leaving #Chatterz and not returning for an extended period of time, and a Member banned for unorderly conduct. Q: Do you need any help with the Members Page or Webpage? (As if anyone would ask this :P ) A: Sure! OPs and Members alike willing to help out on the Webpage (without any other reward than seeing your name on the Committee page :P ) feel free to contact me. If you have any other queries or would like more information on the above (or find some error in the above) please feel free to contact me. Reow.
