This is the update you've all been waiting for. My days of anxiously sifting through the mail in search of big envelopes are over. After spending the last four months pretending I wasn't thinking at all about the application I had sent to the University of California @ Berkeley, anxiety finally cut me loose. I checked the Berkeley web site Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at 2:00, and according to the "Check your Application Status" link, I got in! The full impact of it is still flying around over my head waiting till I get over the immediate shock/thrill, but I am more ecstatic than I have EVER been!
I also got into Duke the night before I heard about Berkeley! That was a humongous thrill as well! These two acceptances were the last outstanding ones. I had already gotten into SUNY Albany, the University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign, and UConn. I am definitely sticking with my original first choice, though. Berkeley is a great school academically. It also has an excellent program for students with disabilities, and the San Francisco Bay area is my kind of place!
My life will start to get crazy pretty soon. Graduation is June 15, and I leave for Shake-A-Leg (click here to read about my past experiences at Shake) two days after that. I'm going to their five-week adult camp this year. It should be another unforgettable experience, and one that will prepare me for living away from home. I leave Shake on July 21, and I have about two weeks at home before we pack up and drive out to the glorious Bay Area. Berkeley wants me there on August 13.
Well, I believe that's all the news for now. I would love to hear from those of you who I haven't been in touch with for a while! Hope you're all doing well!
~Ben
