October 13, 2001
This was the finale for WEREWOLF TOUR "TOO SLOW WARNING", and thus the last live for NEW SODMY as WEREWOLF. It was once again at Shibuya ON AIR WEST. This time, I won't say anything about the other bands who played (some of them were rather "dangerous", or rather, their fans were >_<).
Entering the livehouse
We got there a little late, about 6:15 (the live started at 6) because Juillet-san said that since there was a "dangerous" band playing, they would be first and no way would NEW SODMY be first. I handed my ticket and 500 yen over and then came to a woman who wanted to do a bag check. Immediately, I thought, aw, no pictures this time and probably never again. I figured it'd be like at the BLITZ last year, when you just opened your bag, they'd glance in, and then let you through. But no...this time, she actually *dug* through my purse a bit! (What if I'd had something in my backpack? She didn't check.) Very very fortunately, I'd buried my MD recorder and camera (camera wasn't so important...just the fact that they were doing a check meant I wasn't going to take pictures) under some stuff, just in case. Nevertheless, I'm still a bit surprised she didn't find anything. Lucky! Then I went through the door...or, I tried to. The place was absolutely *packed*! I guess there were a lot of popular bands playing that night, which seemed to be proven true when they played...quite a few fans for most. Anyway, time passed. Lots of time. NEW SODMY played last again...meaning they didn't come out till about 10! Four hours! I ended up standing in about the fourth row, in front of MAYU-kun.
The band
The clothes were pretty much the same as on 8/17, with a few differences. AYA-kun entered first and of course, the first thing I noticed, even in the dark...wow, his hair is shorter! Before, it was down to about his nose in the front, but now you can see his eyes. ^^ I think it's also actually black now, not just dark brown. (Just gotta say here that AYA-kun has a beautiful profile. ^^) Then, YOU-kun, MAYU-kun, and finally KAMIJO-sama entered. There seemed to be something odd about KAMIJO-sama's face, but I couldn't see well, as the lights weren't bright and also they were red. But when the lights came on more...whoa! There was red all around KAMIJO-sama's right eye! (Like, up to his eyebrow, left to his nose, and right and bottom extending a little past his eye.) No "W" this time. Other things I noticed...AYA-kun seemed to be wearing more eye makeup than before (or was that my imagination?). MAYU-kun didn't have a tie and the top button of his shirt was open. YOU-kun had a different shirt on under his jacket (it was brown, I think, not black). He also had some sort of whiteish stripe going vertically through his left eyebrow and maybe his right one too. And KAMIJO-sama wasn't wearing any rings, or his choker (but he had the cross on), and he was definitely wearing one earring on his right ear (if you look at the pictures from the previous live, he doesn't seem to be wearing an earring).
The live
Once again, I translated the MCs. Sooo much thanks to Satsuki-chan, who had already transcribed them by the next day (I didn't ask her to...she just did and then I asked for the transcription). As before, for the MC translations, what was going on onstage is between asterisks * *, the audience's reaction is in brackets [ ], explanations are in ( ), and my personal notes are in braces { }. (The MCs were all actually really short this time.)
1. Prelude
This introduction was a bit heavier than last time's and also pretty short. The members came onstage during this.
2. MC 1
WEREWOLF...let's go to, "ADVENT"!! *Silence.* ...one sec. I think I missed. [Laughter.] There's no such thing ("sorya nai ze", which seems to be a KAMIJO-sama phrase, as he also said it at last year's live)! Let's go to, "ADVENT"!!
3. ADVENT
AYA-kun was pretty active during this song, throwing his head back and wandering around his side of the stage. (I wish they would move more...AYA-kun was hard to see from where I was.) During the instrumental, MAYU-kun walked to the front of the stage near KAMIJO-sama to play. KAMIJO-sama beckoned with a finger for him to come closer, but MAYU-kun just kept playing (not sure if he was declining or if he simply didn't notice). That was cute...it looked like KAMIJO-sama was amused too, and I chuckled. ^^
4. farewell
They went right from "ADVENT" into "farewell". This time, I knew that MAYU-kun was going to play that beautiful instrumental, so I watched him for that. ^^ (Standing in front of him helped there.) Simple but so full of emotion. At the end, KAMIJO-sama dropped to his knees, dragging the mic with him...that caused a little feedback. ^^;
5. MC 2
Bonjour, honey! We're WEREWOLF. ...We're called NEW SODMY. Nice to meet you ("douzo yoroshiku")! So, here's a song from our first maxi single "WHITE LIE". *Pause. Then KAMIJO-sama chuckles.* [A smattering of laughter.] {I'm sure most everyone, including perhaps KAMIJO-sama, was thinking what I was: But weren't "ADVENT" and "farewell" already from "WHITE LIE"? ^^;} "actor".
6. actor
At the beginning of the song, KAMIJO-sama said, "Yes, I am actor" (in English). Then he said something like "Please listen to this song when you've got worries." (Sorry, couldn't quite make out everything he said, but that's what he said about this song on the radio too.) He didn't forget the lyrics this time. ^_~ During the instrumental, KAMIJO-sama introduced the members, "On guitar, AYA. On guitar, MAYU. On bass, YOU. And on vocal, KAMIJO (although the last was really hard to hear...I just knew he said KAMIJO 'cuz I know who he is ^^). Yes, we are NEW SODMY." I watched AYA-kun for the first part of the solo (I'm not tall but fortunately still tall enough to see over all those heads between me and him ^^)...it was so cool to see his fingers moving so fast and effortlessly. ^^ At the end of the song, KAMIJO-sama took a red rose from a fan, raised it, and said, "Thank you." Then he left it in front of the drums. After the song was over and before the MC started, the members all turned around to retune their instruments. KAMIJO-sama walked over to AYA-kun and put his hand on AYA-kun's shoulder as he said something to him. ^^
7. MC 3
When the song ended, I thought it was odd that there was a bit of applause. It was like a classical concert. [Laughter.] I think being elegant is really fitting...or something like that. [Laughter and applause.] Shuddup. Let's see, on the 26th of September-- *YOU-kun makes a really fast clicking sound. (I'm not sure how he did it as I couldn't see and wasn't paying attention to him either, but it must've been something with his pick tapping the bass.) KAMIJO-sama looks at YOU-kun. With a chuckle:* That was really good. {It was! I was impressed and still am. ^^} On the 26th of Septe-- *YOU-kun repeats the clicking. KAMIJO-sama looks at YOU-kun again and makes a popping sound (apparently with his tongue). Then KAMIJO-sama steps back, points his hand like a gun at YOU-kun and makes the sound again. YOU-kun acts as if he's been shot in the heart.* [Laughter.] *KAMIJO-sama says really quickly:* On the 26th of September... *KAMIJO-sama pauses and shoots YOU-kun a look.* [A little more laughter.] ...our first maxi single "WHITE LIE" went on sale. So, uh... *KAMIJO-sama pauses and then can't hold back a "heh".* ...that was our first CD, but our first one-band live will be here at ON AIR WEST on 11/4. It seems that there are still 25 CDs left. {They were being sold at the door, I discovered on my way out.} Please buy one. [A little laughter.] *KAMIJO-sama turns his back to the audience and looks over his shoulder.* That was subtle ("bimyou"). [Laughter.] On 11/28, our second maxi single "JEALOUSY" will go on sale. [Applause.] Buy it at Like an Edison. [Laughter.] So, we'll send you a song from the second maxi single. We wanted to try doing a continuation of a sad song that MAYU wrote a long time ago..."Refrain".
8. Refrain
This was a really nice song. ^^ (It's also one that isn't on their page, I believe.) KAMIJO-sama walked over to MAYU-kun this time. While singing, he looked like his was about to lean on MAYU-kun's shoulder, and then looked like he was going to put his arm around MAYU-kun's shoulders, but I think in the end, he didn't touch MAYU-kun at all. (Darn. =P)
9. MC 4
With that, we'll send you one more new song from "JEALOUSY". It's a little early, as it's a Christmas song. Please listen. [A fan shouts, "It's too early!"] Too early? Sorry, it's just that I rush things. [Laughter.] *Pause as KAMIJO-sama turns around and walks a little. He turns back.* ...huh? {That was cute. ^^} [Laughter.] Mm-mmm. I haven't forgotten. [More chuckles.] "Romantic Season".
10. Romantic Season
At the beginning, KAMIJO-sama said, "I tried thinking about the connection between you and me. If you don't mind, I'd like to make such a connection real." I loved this song...absolutely gorgeous. I really liked MAYU-kun's guitar accompaniment during the verses. According to Juillet-san, this is actually from LAREINE. She said that KAMIJO-sama performed it at his solo LAREINE live in January. Anyway, during the first instrumental, KAMIJO-sama beckoned to YOU-kun and/or MAYU-kun. YOU-kun tapped MAYU-kun on the arm and then hopped to the front of the stage next to KAMIJO-sama. KAMIJO-sama put his arm around YOU-kun's shoulders and pointed to the second floor behind me. YOU-kun grinned and pointed too. Then KAMIJO-sama pointed towards the back of the first floor on AYA-kun's side and YOU-kun grinned again. (I wonder what they were looking at...?) Also, KAMIJO-sama took a blue rose, kissed it, and handed it back. ^^
After the live
This time, the events following the live were definitely something to cherish. ^^ We'd missed seeing the band leave last time, so this time, we determinedly stuck around. (BTW, NEW SODMY's set was about 30 minutes long...we got out around maybe 10:45.) We took this time to buy some goods too. ^^ So we were standing in front of the am/pm there after buying stuff and perhaps 20 minutes later (after a few other bands had left), a white van came along and parked at the livehouse. Could this be it? We checked the license plate...it was actually rather unusual. I won't say the number here, but normally, Japanese license plates have two two-digit numbers. This one had a one-digit number followed by a two-digit number. ^^ The staff was putting some bags into the van and we were wondering whose it could be. We (there were now six in my group, including me) lined up with a few other fans (there weren't many left by that time) beside the van and waited and...wah! They came out! In order, it was KAMIJO-sama, YOU-kun, MAYU-kun, and AYA-kun (I think? KAMIJO-sama and AYA-kun are definitely right). (They sat such that KAMIJO-sama and AYA-kun were in the middle and YOU-kun and MAYU-kun were in the back.) They'd all changed except for KAMIJO-sama, I think, and KAMIJO-sama was wearing light brown sunglasses (couldn't see his eyes T_T). When they came out, we all waved really hard, but they didn't seem to really notice. YOU-kun did wave back before he got in and then again as they were driving off.
Well, the street is small and narrow, and there's a light at the intersection. We figured they would be stopped there, so the six of us ran after the van! Indeed, there they were. We ran up even with the van, but on the right side of the street (they drive on the left, remember), and waved and waved. They glanced at us, and KAMIJO-sama raised his right hand a little, but that was all. (I was so embarrassed. =P) So giggling a bit, we withdrew so that we were standing a little behind the van and talked, wondering if they were upset/angry that we were following them so much. Also we were wondering if they could see us in the mirrors or hear us (I think the front window was open, but I doubt we were loud enough to be heard clearly.) The light actually turned green, but they couldn't go because the intersection was jammed, so the light turned red again. Meanwhile, I was facing directly away from the van while Juillet-san was right across from me. Suddenly, she went, "Ah!" and pointed behind me. I turned and wah! KAMIJO-sama had turned around in his seat and was looking at us! He looked like he might've been upset or maybe just surprised (What?! They're *still* there?! =P), but it was hard to tell with his sunglasses on. I didn't want to wave at him if he was angry, so I just watched. But then...but then...he *waved*! Very cute! I was so excited that I let out a little squeal and was jumping up and down while I waved back. ^^; So, I don't think he was angry. ^^ Anyway, I think that was the greatest moment of the weekend. Yes, even better (IMO) than shaking hands with the band the next day. Why? Well, at the talk event, we already knew we'd be shaking hands. So although it was still awesome to touch them, it wasn't surprising. Besides, there were 299 other people (some were repeats) who were also shaking hands with them. But this...there were just six of us. And it was amazing because it was completely unexpected. (Even when we saw KAMIJO-sama turned around, we hardly thought that he would wave. And so cutely too!) So this moment is what I hold dear to my heart. ^^
