THE PRESIDENT: Good afternoon, and in light of what is taking place in the United States, I do feel that I have to give an appropriate response and view of what my administration holds to what is happening there.

Firstly, I welcome the change of power in Washington, and I got off the phone earlier today with the incoming Speaker of the House of Representatives elect Nacy Pelosi, and I congradulated her on her party's victory.

I told her that I look forward to working with her, and the United Staes on how we can have a more sensible approch to issues, including foreign policy. Secondly, I also want to say that I welcome President Bush's strong commitment to changing and keeping his admistration in check, and keeping the democratic system running in his country. I want to say that the Caldicott and the Chateau look forward to working with the new United States Secretary of Defense.

This is a golden opputunity for us to work with the United States, and I hope Congress will begin to look at many issues from a different perspective. My Adminstration is indeed hopeful for a better cross straits relations with the United States from today.

Thankyou.
