| The President's Private Residence Y Shere, WC 1.35 PM (WST) THE PRESIDENT: Well come on in. I am very happy to have you over here at my house. (Laugther) We can do away with the ceremonies, but I think I have agreed we will take questins, one form each of you. First and formost welcoem top my humble home, this is where I grew up, actually it was at the other house down across the field which you can see out of that window, were we are in now is the new house which I had consturcted in 2003. When, We - I was Vice President. Today, as you can see, it is a beautiful day, and you will be able to look across to the other side of Lake Y Shere, and of cuase One Tree Hill, which is located there, is clearly visible. Jason, you have something - Q: Yes Sir, thankyou - I just wanted to remark that this is indeed such a wonderful place - why dont you birng world leader here, they could take in the frest air (Laughter) A; And the serinity (Laughter) - Well I think - I am not thet type of President who would like to get all the things mixed up, as in personal life and the wold of politics. That's why this is the first time you are actually stepping in my home. Before this there was no opputunity to do so, but this is the first from me (Laugther) Well as we go along I will bring you around so if you will come with me into this other room, this is the other sitting room where I keep some of my hobbies, as you know, I am a collector. I collect all sorts of junk (laugther) It's this nostalgic thing (laugther) So you will be able to see I like Direct Comics alot, especially superman - Q: Have you seen Superman Returns? A: yes, I had the chance to do so downtown this morning, and what can I say, it was awesome - Q: Any chance of you meeting the stars - After all Brendon is half Lego - (Laugther) A: I would love to meet superman himself - if he's not to busy saving the world - (Laugther) We'll get Brandon Routh - Is it? Yes mr. Routh to the Chateau some time . (Laugther) You know it makes me proud that we had a share in that - (Laugther) Ok here you will see that it is quite an awesome loft, and with the wide expense of cieling it is great. Ok lets sit here and I will talk to you a bit first about my family life, and then I want to dicuss the G8 this weekend. I grew up here, before movint to World Club to worlk and then to Washington D.C. for a couple of years and then to Metro City to get involved in politics. We come from a family of six, I have two other brothers and one sister. As you know we are a closely nit family and I am very happy that we are able to meet so often dispite the fact that one is President, one is Governor and the other two have busy lives too. (Laugther) I think it is rare, and I really want to encourage all citizens to remember that family is where the heart is. Every time I return to this property, to this house and to this place, I feel at home and I feel that it his here where I want my kid to grow up and to expericene the beauty of nature. Peter -? Q: Would you say sir - your afirmmity of why the environment is so important on your agenda? A: Well yes, to an extent yes - I mean I grew up here and my affirmity to nature is strong. This house runs on solar poer, as do most of the other buildings on this estate. It is all solar powered, or powered by Pammy Creek, which is a river just off the estate, and we collect our water form there, do our own filtration and we use it. I think it is great that we have this ablity to harness what is around us and use it without hrm to the environmet. Louis - Q: Thankyou sir, what would you say about reaching that goal at this upcoming G8 - A: Yes, I think it will bereachable, I this the leaders will be able to sit down and work out a communique on this matter - of course some time I do have fears that this summit will become one on Neuclear (Laugther) But, i understand that there are pressing issue around the world at this point, i dont double that, I we will devote time to disucss Iran and North Korea - Perry Q: Sir, will you be meeting Preisdent Bush during this summit, what will you say to him when you meet him? A: President Bush and I last met face to face in April, and I last talked to him last week, so I think we have a good working relationship going. Some times people think that we are enemines, (Laugther) But we get along quite well. I look forward to meeting Preisdent Bush this Saturday. I mean some people think that it was Bush who derailed the Kyoto Protocal, which I fiercely defend, by we must udnerstand that he too has his agenda, his promises to the American People he must keep. And I respect him on that. Brandon - Q: Sir, may I ask a questin on your family life - how is it that your brother is Governor and you Preisdnet. Is there a powerhose forming? Is your brother asipring to be Presidnet - A: I think that is indeed a good question. I think Simon has only told me he looks forward to being a good governor. I cannot speak to him, and reailstically, that question has nver really surfaced between the two of us. Will he make a good Preisdent, i think so. I think form the time he spends up at Metro City, he's over at the CHateua quite a bit, I think he likes the air up ther . (Laughter) Whether we are a power family, you mean a dynasty, I really dont think so, but I would not mind. I did have a great grand father who was a senetor. (Laugther) Kerry Q: Sir a question on your time. As President, you have spent a great deal of time here at Y Shere. Does that indicate your love of Y Shere or your hate of the Chateau? If Preisdent Kedisnky had not passed on, would you ever aspire to be President? A: Yes, i do spend alot of time here. It is at times at Pressure Cooker up at Metro CIty. And I think the view here helps me to relax. I d do quite abit of work down here, and I do alot of world leader calls while I am here at Y Shere. I think I try to come down for a least four days every three months or so. so it's not like every weekend even thougl it's only an hours flight or less from Metro. people have remakred I am wasting airplane fuel and who pays the cost? The answer is that if I am pssing through, meaing it is on the way to Metro or form metro, then it is considered part fo state travel. If I am making a spercific trip down here, then I actually have to pay for my self, and that could be up to 10,000 legos for that one hour of flying time, and yes, i have done that extravagent thing, not that I insist on using Lego One, I would be more than happy to sit on Ryan Air, (Laugther) but it is usualy paid from m own pocket, or if we have some high flyer guest on the plane, thy will take a poad of that sum. Not that I try to sell these perks to cover my expenses, but that's how it works. You all might like to know that while i am here, the state does not pay for my food or electricty bills. (Laugther) As to your second question on would I be presidnet, it hink I really was not considering being President at that point in time, as in July 2004. If given a choice then - Iwould say I was more capable of playing a supporting role to the Preisdnet than actually being Preisdent. But do I have the capabilities? Absolutely, If not I would not have won a second term. Now, say President Kedinsky won a secont erm, and I would be in the running for 2010, would I take it? I really dont know. Jimmy Olsen - Q: Sir what is your take on the Isreali Crisis - A: Well of course I am deeply consirned. About three weeks ago I was in Tel Aviv on a visit to the Prime Minister, I wanted to show our support to him and to Jordan for the good work they were doing, but I also did caution Prime Minsiter Olmert to take a cautious stand ont he kidnapping of the Isreali Soldier, which during my visit, had just happened. Obvioulsy it has escalated since. We will be discussing this issue at the G8 this saturday. |
