| The State Dining Room The Chateau 10.30 AM WST THE PRESIDENT: Prime Minsiter Lee, Foreigen Minsiter Yeo, and members of the Singapore Delegation, let me once again welcome you all to the Chateau. I want to thank Prime Minister Lee for visiting the Federation, and putting us as one of his priorities with trade. Today, we sign an Open Skys agreement between our two nations. I want to thank him for his warm hospitality, when Linda and I visited Singapore in November last year. We fondly remember our trip there, and I look forward to visiting Singapore again. Today, Prime Minsiter Lee and I had the pleasure of discussing over breakfast. They say Singapore is a great place for food, so you should be quite comfortable to discussing and eating at the same time. (Laughter) I hoped you like bacon. (Laughter) And of course, we met a short while after in the Blue Office, we had a great meeting. I assured Prime Minsiter Lee that Metro City puts Singapore as it's priority in South East Asia, and especially with the climate, the politcal climate in South East Asia, we need a strong and stable economy like Singapore to do business with, to remain as a strong stable currentcy in the region. I disucssed with Prime Minsiter Lee about the concerns we have with Thailand, with the unrest in South Thailand, as well as poverty in Indonasia, Timor Leste and many other parts of South East Asia. We talked about health concerns, Malaria, and the threat of terrorism. So Prime Minister Lee, today we affirm with the Economic Bill not just the FTA signed in the past, bu more importantly, the ew free and open skys agreement that will come with this bill. I hear Singapore Airlines is a great way to fly (Laugther) I look forward to seeing more Singapore Airlines flights to the Federation. Thankyou . (Applause) Mr. Prime Minsiter - PRIME MINISTER LEE: Mr. President, Secretary Morrison, Secretary Jones, Secretary of Transport, I am very very happy to be here today to sign this agreement which will benefit both our countries. Singapore is a country no larger than the State of Metro (Laugther) and we look to countires like the Federation as an important partner in our work to economic prosparity. The Federation is indeed a good friend, and business partner. (Laugther) Singapore, and the region, Malaysa, Indonasia, Tailand and the Phillipines look to countries, just to name a few, like the Federation for a strong economic backing. I once again thank President Cherrie for his strong support of Singapore and our economy, and I affirm that Singapore is a good place for Lego assets.
