| The Blue Room The Chateau 6.40 PM WST THE PRESIDENT: Linda and I are saddened to learn about this afternoon's shooting at Montocanto State Universty. I am deeply concerned about the welfare of the Students, Faculty and Staff at MSU. Our hearts and prayers are with the families of those affected, thoses injured and the victims of this sensless massacre. I ask people, communities and places of worship around the ferderation to pray for the victims and their loved ones. I strongly believe that our education system needs to have better control about school safety. I remember the time, we had shootings in Littleton a few years back. THis incident just echoes that incident on a much larger scale. I have been in contact this past hour with the Education Secretary, and the Governor of Rerksheree, and the Sherrief of Montocanto. I intend to visit Montocanto tomorrow to asses the situation for myself, and to meet the injured. I think at this point in time, I ask congress to once again look at the gun bill. I have insttuected and asked before for a nation wide ban on guns, but that has not been passed. I will ake the Governors to once agin reconsider, especially those territories where gun ownership is leagal. Incindents like this should never happen. Our institutions of learning should be a place free from violance and carnage. I am appaled by what happened today, and I will assas for myself tomorrow. I am concerned about this issue and it greatly pains me. Again, we must stop the guns, and I ask lawmakers to seriously consider the inplecations of not doing so. Thankyou and good night. END |
