| The Music Room The Chateau 10.45 AM WST THE PRESIDENT: Good Morning, and a very warm welcome to the Chateau.Linda and I are very happy to have you here. (Appluse) Unfortunately she is not albe to be here today, but she would have been very proud to meet each and everyone of you. We are very happy to have you here today, and to our 60 Prefects recieving today's award, you ought to be proud of yourselves. (Applause) I want to say that this long standing tradition is one of the higest honors in the land, given to some of the youngest people. And it is a honor for the Presidnet ot be able to decorate these awards on them. The Prefecture of the Federation is the most prestigious award givien to our youth. For those of you who aspire to become Presidnet, do not fret. 16 of our President,s nearly 40 Percent, were Prefects. (Laughter) And so I'm sure one you you in this room one day, is going to be up here giving an award to those who come after you. Our youth today sometimes cannot be described. (Laughter) Am I right parents? (Laughter) It is almost like they came from Mars. (Laugther) But I think these very fine young men and women have upheld the values of what youth should epitomise to be. You are here today because you, have not taken, but given. You have given freely of your time, your recources to serve your community, to help those in School or College, to help the disabed, and disadvantaged, you are here because you ahve given away your best to serve. (Applause) As you look, and i'm sure many of you are, to going to College, or to Universty, the Prefecture award will give you the best standing you need to go inot the best education institutions in the Nation. Some of the boys are already thinking or have begun servng in the Armed Froces. Some of the ladies too. I want to say I commend you and I respect you for your service in our military. (Appluse) Just earlier this month I hosted the Officers Comissioning Ball, and it was thrilling and it was a privilage to meet some very fine young men and women, of whom some are national Prefects. So good choice. (Appluse) This award is not about prestigie in and for itself. I hope it will be an award that will inspire you to continue to serve otheres in your community. I hope it will be an award which will inspire those around you to help those in need. And disadvantages shold never be a hinderence for the award. One very fine young man has overcomed these obsticales. Despite his inabilities and disadvantages, he has overcomes these obsticales to emerge as a soon to be Prefect, and I am refering to Toby Johson. (Applsue) Toby, I want to commend you for your courage to serve. YOu never looked at your disadvantage as a hinderance, but you have used it to motivate not just yourself but otheres in need as well. I want to congradulate you on your very fine achievement. YOu ought to be pround of yourself. (Appluse). Mr. and Mrs. Johson, you both ought to be proud of your son. (Applsue) As it says in the Book of Isaiah, They will rise up on wings of Eagles, and they will soar and not grow weary, for they who waite upon the Lord will renew their strengt. THis is my prayer and wish for each and everyone of you 60, fine young men and women, the future of our nation. Thankyou and God bless you all. (Appluse) (The awards are handed out) END |
