| Press Secretary Marcus Loyld & Forign Policy Envoy James Cooper The Marie Anne Prasad Briefing Room The Chateau 11.01 AM WST THE PRESS SECRETARY: Good morning, and it's a busy day with the tea pary on this afternoon. Perhaps we can check out the hors d' ovures after this. (Laughter) I'm with James Cooper, I will give the schedule of our trip to Canada beginning tomorrow evening, through Tuesday morning. First, The President will depart for Ottawa, Canada tomorrow, Sunday 19th August in the afternnon at around 4.00 PM Metro Time. He will attend Church in the morning, and then will have privite time. We leave the Chateau at 4. Lego One will depart by 4.30 PM and three and a half hours later we will arrive in Ottawa at 5 PM Ottawa time. The President will be greeted by the Governor General of Canada at Ottawa International Airport. Following that, the President will meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada for a private dinner at his Residence in Ottawa. He will ten spend the night in Ottawa before going to the Summit Venue of Montebello in the morning. The President will then formally hold talks with the Prime Minsiter. This is the President's third bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Harper. He has, of course, also seen him at various summits such as the G8 and the APEC last year, and of course during our first visit, our State Visit to Canada in June 2006. They will continue discussions on issues like border facilitation for trade, as well as for travelers; expanding commerce; as well as cooperation on security. They will also discuss global issues like Climate Change. They'll discuss the Middle East, including Iran; as well as Doha negotiations. Following which, the President will call on President Bush of the United States, whom he last met at the G8 Summit in June. The Presidents will discuss border control as well as trade, and open skys talks will continue as well as Climate Change. Following that, the President will meet with President Caldern of Mexico. They will continue their discussions on security cooperation, as well as building on the success of NAFTA, as well as on border facilitation and other bilateral regional issues. I expect they will discuss areas such as strengthening democracy, the protection of human rights, as well as expanding trade and development. That night, Monday night, the four leaders will attend a dinner where they will all four discuss issues related to the Western Hemisphere. On Tuesday morning, the leaders will meet with members of the North American Competitiveness Council. It's a group of business leaders particularly interested in secure and prosperous trade here in the North American continent. Then the President participates in the North American Leaders' meeting, the Security and Prosperity Partnership. At this year's meeting, the leaders have agreed to focus work on five areas. They are: enhancing global competitiveness, safety of food and products, sustainable energy and the environment, smart and secure borders, as well as energy management. Then the leaders will participate in a working lunch where I expect they will discuss global issues. And following that there will be a joint press availability of all three leaders. And then the President will depart Canada in the afternoon and travel backto Metro City, and thus ends our trip to Canada. Mr. Cooper. MR. COOPER: |
