| Press Secretary Marcus Loyld & East Asia Envoy Suzan Wang The Chateau Press Briefing Room The Chateau 10.22AM WST THE PRESS SECRETARY: Good morning, and happy Tuesday. Today's briefing is spacifically for this week's visits to Japan, Vietnam, Singapore and Australia, and I think your questions should be related to that. I will give a break down of the schedule, and then I will let Ms. Wang brief on the Agenad and followup. Here is the schedule - We will depart Metro City on wednesday the 15th, tomorrow by the way, for Carolina Island at about 7.45 AM, from the South Lawn. We will arrive two hours later in Carolina Island where the Preisdent will visit with schools and attend a rally on Small Businesses. We then depart at 1.30 PM for Tokyo. After a nine and a half hour flight we will arrive on Thursday the 16th, 2.30 PM in Tokyo Haneda Airport where we will be welcomed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife. We will then depart for the Prime Minister's Residence for talks. Following that a Press Conference will be held. There will be some lag time, and in the evening, the Preisdent and Mrs. Cherrie will call at the Imperial Palace on their Majasties, Emperor Arkhito and Emperess Michiko, and they will have dinner. On Friday, the 17th, in the morning, the Preisdent will depart Tokyo for Hanoi, Vietnam, and the 2006 APEC summit. We will arrive three and a half hours from Tokyo at around two in the afternoon. Upon arrival, we will be welcomed by the President of Vietnam, and the Preisdent will hold talks with the Preisdent of Vietnam at the Presidnetial Palace. Following that there will be again some lag time, the Preisdent will paticipate in the first Heads of State meeting. And then, we will attend a State Dinner hosted by the Preisdent of Vietnam. On Saturday the 18th, the Preisdent will attend a Plenary Session in the morning followed by talks with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, followed by the Preisdent of Indonasia and finally lunch with the President of China. Following that, there will be a group photo for the Heads of State of APEC. On Sunday, the 19th,the Preisdent will call at the Lego Embassy in Vietnam, and then the Second Plenary Session of APEC. and then we go to the Airport for the flight to Singapore. The Preisdent will arrive in Singapore around 6.30 PM on Sunday, the 19th, and then there will be a lag time, and then he will speak at the Sout East Aisa Congress on Economics and society, at the Raffles City Convention Center. This will be with a dinner of course, where he will meet with Singapore and Asian Business Leaders. On Monday, the 20th, the Preisdent wll begin the day by calling at the Lego Embassy in Singapore, and there will be a breakfast meeting. He will then go on to Nanyang techonlogical Universty to diliver a key note address on Trade. After his speech at the Universty, the Preisdent will visit the Istana to meet with Prime Minsiter Lee. Following that he will meet with Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, and then there will be a Luncheon. hosted by Prime Minsiter Lee at the Istana. All this takes place at the Istana. Following that we depart for the airport and then we will be on our way to Canberra, Australia. Nine hours later we will arrive in the early hours of Tuesday, the 21st in Canberra Australia. Later that day, in the morning, the President make a brief visit to the Lego Embassy and then will go on to paticipate with Prime Minister Howard at the Lodge, where there will be a welcome ceremony, followed by talks and then a short Press Avalibility. The President will then go on to visit some aboriginal art works at Parliment House, and then adress a special seating of Parliment at Parliment Hill. Following that, there will be an official lunch hosted for the Preisdent and Mrs. Cherrie at Parliment. Following Lunch, the Preisdent and Mrs. Cherre will lay a wreath at the Australian War Memorial , to commorate ANZAC. We then leave straight for the airport, for the flight to Hawaii. Nine and a half hours later... goodness (laugther) I could just die on this trip. (Laughter) We will arrive on Tuesday Afternoon, still the 21st, in Honolulu, for a five hour visit, It is essentially a refueling stop. There will be a brief meeting and visit with President Bush, who is also refueling Air Force One, in Hickam Air Force Base. We then go on to a meeting with Lego Commanders in the Aisa Pacific, and then a visit to Pearl Harbour, where the Preisdent will lay a wreath at the USS Arizona Memorial, which of course commorates the attacks on Pearl Harbour. Following that we will have dinner with the Governor of Hawaii and Lego commanders, before returning to the Airport where the President wll address lego troops and Air force, Navy personnel. We then depart for the eight hour flight to Metro. We will arrive in Metro around seven in the morning, Wednesday, the 22nd of November, where the President and Mrs. Cherrie will welcome the Chateau Christmas Tree on the South Lawn of the Chateau and thus, a great way to end our trip to Asia.
