TEARLACH'S TRIP - Italy#2August2005Well after seeing alot of small towns on excellent highways, and the rolling hills with apple, orange, olive trees, and of course the vineyards all the way, arrived in Rome. Im at the International Place built in XIX (what ever year that is). This place has a restaurant, excellent pub. In me room a hot tub, a balcony. They had a bottle of Del Carlos wine, with meat, cheese and fresh sweet rolls (On the weight I have gotten) Well off to see Rome. Ive seen Galleria, Borghose, Plazza Navona, Campo de Fioro, all landmarks of palaces. Ive seen the Vatican of St. Peters Cathedral, what a lovely place. By the way as for the Coliseum alot of brick and materials went into building the Vatican. Well off to see the famous Coliseum, as I sat here, me imagine ran wild to think of a place 2000 years old, and I imagine what life was like. Ive seen so much of Rome, which the International Place, had furnished a tour guide.
So after many hours of seeing room and so many old structures to mention. We stopped at outside restaurant for a very large Salami, cheese and fresh bread, with wine. Off to see the Trevi Fountain Piazza di Spagna, and was just beautiful.
Well Im beat, Rome with their cobble stones through out Rome sure tires one out. Well back to the room. Well had a nice supper of veal, potatoes, salad, veggies, fresh Italiano Bread with rich butter and beer. Had a nice peach pudding. Well off to walk the excellent food off the body. Back to the International Palace for a glass of wine, and off to bed. Well another day, excellent breakfast of eggs, salami, ham, fresh bread and milk. Off now to see Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Maria is in Trastevere, and Villa Farnesina. Well they took me out for pizza which had salami, anchovies, fresh tomatoes, garlic, onions, ham, and naturally wine. This was at the Villa Borghese. A park near by required us to take a nap. Back to the room, and decided to have supper on the balcony over looking vast fields of olive trees. Had a great seafood to top off the day. Well time to hit the road. Well as I head south to Campobasso near the Adriatic Sea, have a lovely room, which is nice and a great view. Well Im on the road to see towns like Ive never seen before. Well off to Napoli. Well Im now in Napoli found a nice Hotel San Palo, with a balcony and I can see the Isle of Capri, and Mt Vesuves. Have a excellent restaurant and a pub here, and a tour can be arranged. Here in Napoli I visited older part of the city. No side walks, traffic signs, or traffic lights all kinds of vendors selling their products. Streets very narrow.
Went to a wine tasting place and learned that you hold the wine glass by the stem, not at the top, as your hands change the temperature of the wine (Im amazed) Cost me 30 Euros, but sample a dozen or so of wines, they also gave me all types of cheeses, and different types of meats from sheep, goat and beef.
Back to room, sat outside and watched the view of the Mediterranean Sea. Well another day taking a tour of Pompeii. Was amazed to see the artifacts and mummified people. Well after going back to room decided I heard about this great place for a pizza. At this restaurant they use wood for cooking the pizzas, no forks or spoons, very thing pizza with anchovies, olives, garlic onions salami, shrimp, sardines and great sauce. When you eat it you roll from tip to the top, and eat it like a roll. Boy and with the wine Im stuffed but worth it, best pizza I ever had.
Over to the park to digest and found older people having a party with plenty of music, food, and drinks. I settled for a Pastrami sandwich and beer. Back to room and bed. Well another day and off to see the town of Tartano, very old and the Gulf of Taranto very calm, Back to Napoli after a tour of Salerno, and Im beat, back to room, early bed.
Well another day and off on a boat ride to Isle of Capri. While on the boat had a excellent supper of 5 types pasta and seafood. Well Ive lost track of time, not sure how long Ive been Italy, guess when you have fun you forget time, who cares when your having a great time. I did buy home made shoes and clothing, bags are full and so time to head home (darn). Plane took me from Napoli Airport to Berlin, then British Airlines to London, then Aer Lingus to Dublin. Spent time with the family and gave them all their presents. They are happy as if they won the Lottery. Well airlines took me back to Denver. Home at last. Here is a few Italiano words (Try your Luck) Buon giorno-Hello (afternoon, ciao Hello, Per favore-Please, Arrivederci, Goodbye, Buona notte-Good night, Si, yes-noh,no, seen-yoh-reh is Mister, tee-yoh-rah is Misses, and seen-yoh-reen-ah is Miss.
Thats all folks, hope you enjoy. Till next time.
