VIENNA (page1)![]() We left Denver around 2:30 AM on 3rd of February, arrived in London for a stop over. Arrived In Vienna to our Hotel Sachen Plaza. Have 2 rooms and a view of Vienna and the Austrian Alps. Plenty of snow. This hotel open in 1876, and a walking to main parts. Will be in Vienna for a while. For supper was Vorspies(onion soup) Wine was Sek. Talelspitz(Broiled Beef), potatoes, green salad, bread. Dessert Bsoffene Brataupfe(Baked apple with ice cream. Apple Schnapps after this. Schnapps took Granddaughters breath away. Coffee in the garden. Alot of snow but we are warm. Took snowshoes and went for a walk. Rooms reasonable and with a free breakfast. also free bus tickets for riding around Vienna. We got a tour guide from the hotel. Lunch of Wiener schnitzel and a glass of Radler Beer. Went and rented our formal wear for the ball. Which is next door to Elmayer Dance School to learn the waltzes.
Carriage picked us up to the Hofburg, which has 144 rooms. I've been here before. The attendants were dressed in either 18th or 19th century. Escorted to our table with other people also debutants and escorts. Had a lovely conservation.
![]() Here at the Palace where so many famous composers entertained, Johanna Strauss, Franz, Leher, Rolman, Mozart, Stolz, Beethoven, Schubert, Shonberg and Hayden. Now this is music. Felt like I had stepped back in history. Ball room at least 50 yards long and 25 yards wide, very big. Had a glass of wine. Then the Master Of Ceremonies, stamped three times on the floor and the waltzes started. Granddaughter and I had 2 dances and I had one with a lovely debutant, granddaughter danced with one of the escorts. After the dance the carriages took us to the Gringing, a very big place. Where we danced, sang, drinks and food. We had goose livers, salad, and bread, roast beef, fish, potatoes so much food. Back to our room exhausted. Up breakfast of eggs, bacon, ham, juice and toast. Have the car to see Vienna. Later another party with the Debutants and escorts. Fun with our different languages. Food of cold cuts, cheese, bread and Beer. BACK to 2009 INDEX Tearlach INDEX |
