CAMERON WINS LEADERSHIP RACE
Cameron with his wife Samantha
After months of political wrangling, David Cameron has been elected as the next leader of the Conservative party. As the fifth sucessor since John Major's defeat in 1997, he must convince the public that he really is up to the job.

39 year old David Cameron was promoted to Education Secretary by Micheal Howard when he became leader in 2003. Since then, he has gained real momentum ending in the Top Tory job.

He says he wants an end to 'punch and judy politics' meaning the opposition party opposes and rejects proposals by the government simply because they are in opposition.

Only time will tell now whether he does what he says and takes action on the mandate he unveiled in the run up to the leadership election results.
