The information presented in these pages has been drawn from past and current
usenet debates. The intent of these listings are to present a concise but faithful
account of the debate in a more digestible format. These enhancements
have necessitated a number of editorial decisions:
-
Abbreviation of the dialog has been limited to ancillary discussions. Where
simplication of the text can be done, without harming the author's intent, I have
done so. (A typical example of this, is to drop signature blocks.)
As these excisions are trivial, they are not indicated by [snip] markers. Again,
this type of excerpting is not done within the body of the debate.
-
Hyperlinks have been added where appropriate. Author email address are not
displayed, to limit being harvested by web bots. Addresses, as posted in group, may
be contained with comment blocks within a page, however.
If an author references a hardcopy resource with a suitable online analog, those links
have also been provided. Links to related materials are indicated by an [ed: link] marker,
and should not be confused with an author-provided support of their argument. Relevant
comments from other authors may be present, indicated by the [comment] marker.
-
Quotes within responses have been eliminated by fitting the debate into a table. Paragraphs
from the original posting determine the rows and first column, and subsequent responses become
columns. It is the theory of this format that the impact upon the author's intent
is entirely mitigated by reduction in sheer tonnage.
Reports of errors and omissions, or comments upon the format are encouraged.
