The Nuevo Valle de Moreno Website

How You Can Contribute

Because of the limited resources available to help the Village, we are concentrating our efforts on helping school age children, as we feel that this is the greatest need and offers the greatest hope for the future. The constitution of Mexico guarantees that every child shall receive a free education up to the 6th grade. But in isolated rural communities like Nuevo Valle de Moreno, this often comes down basically to the government providing a school building and the teachers. Families must provide a school uniform, books, pencils, tablets, and pitch in to provide other neccesities, even toilet paper. Through the contribution of an ex-pat in Guanajuato, money was provided to pay for the electricity of one school that had been left in the dark.

Some of the young teachers at the schools are from other parts of Mexico fullfilling a national obligation to serve some time in rural areas. They are provided a small room, sometimes attached to the school where they teach, and a very small salary. The dedication of these teachers is heartwarming. Far from home, with little or no recognition, they cheerfully and enthusiastically carry out their duties.

Update: When this project was first started and for several years after, we asked for contributions to the village from people who might be willing to help. We are pleased to report that remarkable progress has been made by the people of Nuevo Valle de Moreno in meeting there own needs, and that we are no longer soliciting contributions. Thank you for your past support.
