Co-working trial for sighthound leashes is developed by the polish Chart Polski specialists. It is based on the old practical experiences of sighthound hunting. Every year there in Poland is organized a few co-working trials. One – and the greatest – of them is the feast of St. Hubert: Sarmacki Bieg Świętego Huberta in northern Poland (since 1994) and Sląski Bieg Świętego Huberta in southern Poland (since 2002). The feast of St. Hubert is not only a sighthound co-working trial: there are also gorgeous historical costumes, horses, scenthounds, falcon hunters and different performances on display.

 

Ancient hunters had usually 2 or 3 dogs in same leash. The dogs were from same family and good friends together and they knew very well the working manners of each other. Same dogs hunted always in same leash together. The dogs did effective co-operation: one (usually the younger, faster or less experienced dog) was pursuer and the other (usually the older, slower, more experienced or smarter dog) worked tactically. The pursuer kept the speed of the pursuit as fast as possible, and the tactician directed the way of game by surrounding it from sides.

 

Best way to train two dogs to do a good co-operation is to let them play and run together as much as possible.

Rules of the sighthound co-working trial

The leash of sighthounds have to belong to one owner or have to be really
friendly and experienced to work together. Their sex, age or breed is not important.

The fluency of the co-working is most important. Single performance is not important.

Co-working ability: 2 points
Obstinacy and courage during the pursuit: 2 points
Chase of the lure: 2 points

Maximum: 12 points
