Jesse Young m. 1) Sarah Farler ca. 1865 and they made their home in Perry County, Kentucky until 1878 at which time the part of Perry County in which they lived was annexed to Leslie County. Family history states that Jesse had one of the better built houses of that area. It was a story and half with hand hewn shingles. A double fire place and long porch covering the entire front of the house. He had built his house at the head of Wooton's creek but traded land with Elihu Kilburn and moved to the Left Fork of Big Creek at the mouth of Jack's Branch, thus putting him back in Perry County, Kentucky. Before he relocated, he dismantled his house and moved it to the new location. It remained in use until 1960's when a tornado demolished it. Jesse was a farmer and business man and at one time owned 1500 acres of land. As his children married, he gave each of them a portion of this acreage as a wedding gift, retaining only 125 acres for himself and wife. He served in the Civil War on the Union side, having been inducted into the Kentucky 14th Volunteer Calvary G.A.R., Compamy M, at Irvine, Kentucky on 12-20-1862 and mustered out at Camp Nelson, Kentucky on March 24, 1864. Shortly after being discharged from service, he married his childhood friend Sarah Farler, daughter of Farris/Forrest and Nancy Farler. Sarah, mother of the children in his first family, d. ca 1878 and is buried in a private cemetery at the head of Wooton's Creek. Jesse remarried and raised a second family. Jesse Young's Second Family...

After the death of his wife Sarah Farler Young, Jesse Young engaged Rebecca Shepherd Wells to care for his home and children. Rebecca was the daughter of Levi and Sarah Shepherd, of lower Wooton's Creek, a known acquaintance of Jesse and his family. Rebecca had married Robert Wells, and five children were born to them. Rebecca and Robert's Family lived in Clay County, Kentucky, until a misfortune resulted in Robert being sent to prison, leaving Rebecca and the children in a very bad situation, as the family had little family wealth. In an attempt to support her children, Rebecca traveled to Lee County, VA., seeking work as a housekeeper for a
family member. This did not work out very well, and Rebecca was not doing well in Virginia, as she had a son that needed constant medical attention, and she had been unable to provide it for him. Rebecca and Jesse's daughter, Vina stated that Rebecca had walked across the mountains from Virginia, "with the children in tow," to accept the position of housekeeper for Jesse Young. Along the way, Rebecca's Son, William David Wells, became quite ill. Rebecca stopped at a friend's home, in Clay County. The friends asked Rebecca to leave William David with them. They promised that they would see to his needs. Rebecca agreed, and William D. Wells remained with the family, and became a very wealthy businessman, in ClayCounty. He visited his mother, and sisters often, later in life. After nearly a year of service as a homekeeper, Jesse and Rebecca were married. Their home was one of fine structure, and located at the mouth of Jack's Branch off the left fork of Big Creek. It was a one and a half story log home, and was situated in a large area of bottom land, containing around a hundred acres. There was a large garden, outlined with apple trees. A large barn stood on the side of Big Creek, about a hundred yards from the home. Jesse was a shrude businessman, at one time owning nearly 1500 acres in Perry County. Jesse designated an acre plot be used as a family cemetery. He also worked to have a new school building built, and donated land for the schoolhouse. The new school house was built around the turn of the century, and located about a quarter mile from Jesse's home, just below the graveyard. All could be seen from Jesse's front porch. It was a large two room school, with two entrances. It was built high off the ground, and provided a large play area for students, especially for boys playing marbles. The school was named Eversole School, to honor the school superintendent at that time. The district was named the Jesse Young School District, to honor the man who had worked hard, and provided so much, to see the children had a quality school building, to begin the 20th. Century.

Jesse and Rebecca Shepherd Young had three children. Of Course, Jesse also had Rebecca's children in the home, so it was quite a housefull. Jesse died in 1910, and Rebecca in 1926. They are buried in the Jesse Young Cemetery, On Big Creek, in Perry County, KY. (Picture of Jesse's tombstone.) Jesse and Rebecca Young's children were:
