He should have been dead, dead like the others on his ship... he had seen their lifeless eyes in and frozen bodies in his dreams, they haunted him. But he was an immortal, cursed to continue where others had failed, even when all he really wanted to do was pass on with them. He could remember how the cold had burnt him, how the lack of oxygen had made his head swim, but that was all space could do to him. It was the closest to death that he had ever come, and it left him aching. That endless sleep would relieve him of all the worries and pain of his life, the darkness consuming him would die as well... death would bring peace. An end to the constant war within him...
PairfelKii opened his sore eyes, aware that he had gone another night without sleep. He just could not stop thinking about what had happened, what was going to happen. He had escaped death, his immortal status stealing him through the dark lonely of space until he had been picked up by a couple of spacers. Life would remain with him, and all the struggle with it, but it was not all bad. There were things in his future that actually made him grateful for his unrelenting pulse, things that made him breath deeply and take in the life that he had been cursed with.
The fire elemental heaved himself out of bed, and padded into the small bathroom that adjoined with his almost empty quarters. It had taken him sometime to decide what he was going to do, he had told himself that it was selfish... even insane. In the end, however, his desire won over his logic. PairfelKii was going to bond a dragon, he was going to fill the emptiness inside of him. Part of him was apprehensive, seeing again those who had died because of him, but the risk was worth the possible outcome. Throughout his life, Pairfel had always had someone to tell him what to do, and he had always listened... and what had it gotten him? He was alone in strange space, purposeless, and rejected. It was time that he made his own decisions... time that he took hold of his own life.
He stared at himself in the mirror, saddened by the stretched, pained features of his face. A lifetime of suffering was starting to show up... it was discouraging. The elemental rubbed at his visage, forcing some color back into the pale skin. Not much better, but it would have to do. PairfelKii allowed a weak smile to pull his lips tight over his teeth, and with that the lone male straightened himself up and began the short walk which would lead him to dragon bonding sector of Star City.
