Nolary was frowning to herself as she watched her grandmother fly off into the clouds. Killren had been in a fight with her bond- Sayen, and had left once the argument ended. Nolary hadn't heard what either of the dragons had said to one another, but she knew her grandmother's love for Sayen... and she knew how much he could hurt her. Where Killren was going, however, was something of a mystery. But Nolary had been frowning for different reasons altogether. The island was becoming increasingly more silent... and she was becoming anxious, anxious to get off of the rock as well. There was only one dragon left that might be willing to do anything about her dilemma- Icallan, Killren's son and Nolary's uncle. Not only was the lazy dragon a pilot, who could easily prove to be the means for escape, but Nolary was sure that once she put her proposition to Icallan, Soma, his charge, would aid in convincing him to do something. Nolary watched the dot of her grandmother disappear and then slipped back down the hill and towards home, where she was sure to find both Icallan and Soma. The short walk was a pleasant one, or would have been, had Nolary been paying any attention to the scenery- but her mind was racing too excitedly for her to take any note of the blooming slopes of her home. When she finally arrived at the family village, Nolary paused in her trek to pick up some food from Nin'Queesha's store... a bargaining tool. Then Nolary was off again, and soon on the doorstep of her uncle's home. She adjusted the food stuffs to look better, and brushed her claws through her mane, before knocking tentatively at the door- her mind gently tapped into that of her relatives. Soma answered the door, her naturally arrogant pose apparent even from within the shadows, her sharp eyes staring back at Nolary with a strange intensity. Nolary didn't feel in the least bit welcomed by the smaller dragoness, but she kept her goal in mind, and looked in past Soma. "Is Icallan, here?" Nolary asked without a greeting. Soma scowled up at her aunt, and was silent for a time before answering. ::He is,:: She said. ::But I can't imagine that he would want to see you.:: Nolary stuck her tongue out at the younger dragon and then pressed in past Soma and into the house. "Uncle Icallan!" Nolary said loudly, not without noting that Soma was smirking at her. "You here? It is Nolary!" There was a shuffling noise from within the room and from behind a couch popped the mussed head of Icallan Sislen-Oranato. He hardly looked to be the son of two grand fire dragons... but despite his lazy tendency, Icallan was an impressive creature, and nice to boot (he was also just about the only creature who could take raising Soma). He smiled at Nolary and her niece, still looking sleepy- his smile widened a bit when he noticed the food that Nolary had brought along. "Nolary," He yawned as he got to his feet. "What brings you here? And at such an hour... nap hour, you know." Nolary knew that she had annoyed her uncle, though his voice was far from sounding anything but cheerful. "Uncle," Nolary said, hoping that she could get this out right... she would have to be quick so as not to lose the attention of Icallan. "The island is so dreadfully quiet, and I thought that it might be nice to come and talk with you and Soma. Is that such a surprise?" Soma snorted, but Icallan took on an apologetic expression. Nolary set the food aside as an offering and hoped that she looked honest. "Come sit down," Icallan said in his pleasant manner. "And you too, Soma, I have no idea where you have been all day..." Another yawn escaped the dragon as he sat down again. Nolary and Soma sat obligingly. "It is quiet," Nolary pressed presently. "Too quiet, don't you think?" She glanced at Soma- hoping to be gaining some sort of support from the other dragoness, but her niece didn't seem to be paying attention to her. "I don't mind the quiet," Icallan said distractedly. "Makes for a nice uninterrupted nap... most of the time." Nolary flushed a bit, realizing that he was pointing out her intrusion. "Well," Nolary went on. "It is just so lonely, and you know- Killren left just this morning, and Sayen has gone off to that Frenzy... it is just so strange to see things like this. Wouldn't you say?" ::Boring.:: Soma put in abruptly, but her eyes were still focused elsewhere. "Boring," Icallan repeated, narrowing his eyes at Nolary suspiciously. "Now... why did you come here, again, dear?" "Why... I..." Nolary wasn't quite sure what to do with herself when both Soma and Icallan began laughing. ::She's here to get a ride, Icallan.:: Soma chuckled, her eyes glinting hatefully up at Nolary. "But where to?" Icallan bubbled happily, his nap having finally worn off. Seeing that she had been caught (Nolary silently cursed the co'ana and her own expressive thoughts) Nolary explained herself as quickly as she could. "I just thought," she said. "That since there isn't anyone around, it might be a good time for us to... you know... bond. I mean, no one would miss us..." Soma and Icallan became quiet. None of the three dragons had any kind of bond and the idea was appealing to all as soon as it had been said. "But where?" Icallan asked again. ::Better be somewhere good,:: Soma muttered. ::I don't want to be dragged halfway across the universe for a...:: Nolary didn't want to hear what else the smaller dragoness had to say. "The Abstract Destiny is holding a sort of Frenzy," Nolary began. "And actually, Icallan, I am quite sure that your father is going to be there." Soma glanced at Icallan tentatively- but the older male seemed to be lost in his own thoughts. "I don't suppose," he finally said. "It would be too much of a problem to get out there..." ::You know, I AM too good of a dragon to go without a bond,:: Soma said offhand. "Oh," Nolary went on, hoping to encourage her uncle. "Do you really think that you could, Uncle?!" She leapt to her feet and offered a wide and almost sincere smile to her relatives. Icallan, though still thoughtful, reflected the expression, while Soma turned her head away sourly. "We shall leave today," Icallan said. "I would really hate to miss seeing my father at the very least." Nolary smiled to herself, happy that another one of her plans had went smoothly- and even more happy that soon she might have the partner that she had been waiting for all these years. |
