The Importance of Pets The factor of pets in human life ranks highly indeed concerning all areas of their living. Reams of research have been released declaring the existence of a pet in the house to be benevolent to one's health, and to no wonder. Perhaps (this is, after all, only the small musings of a 15 year old) the knowledge of a creature totally dependent on the owner for survival is what keeps the owner himself from depression, suicide, etc, as is often shown with pregnancy. What I know is that every human enjoys being wanted, and pets fulfill exactly this indulgence. My mother herself didn't believe in owning a pet, and when I was small, I developed asthma as well as allergies to dust and fur. While this does not seem connected at first, studies have proven that young children who are exposed to pets when young have a more efficient immune system that can diffrentiate and efficiently repel dangerous bacteria, while the children who grew up in spotless, ultra-clean homes without pets acquired such allergies as hayfever, etc. My sister, on the other hand, has no allergies, since we did finally get a pet when she was still growing up--my little Yorkie, Embyr. She's a 5-pounder, yet we love her dearly. She has all the quirky idiosyncracies that come with any pet (like barking at the sun when it rises), which is perhaps another one of the largest loved things about pets. These are only small facets of the complete reason why animals are crucial to someone's life. I suppose you wonder what the above reasons have to do with Neopets, as, obviously, you cannot be allergic to one? Well, you see, as I had mentioned, one of the best things about pets is that each have their own particular habits. When we roleplay our neopets, do we not develope characters for them, particular personalities? In fact, more room is given for the fabrication of unique characters, as there can be no "pirate", or "faerie" pets in real life, nor can pets speak. Giving a neopet a life of their own expounds and flexes the owner's mental muscle. To put it simply, we roleplayers on neopets can be considered the hot mental body-builders. xD Or not. I am very dissapointed in myself for being inadept at describing perfectly why pets are so essential in life, but I suppose it is not entirely my fault. For I find that it really isn't what's there, what's tangible that's so important, but really the abstract, the unseen, that supplies the most benevolence to the owner. That would be the part that truly counts, not the "Oh, look at show quality Fluffy, isn't she the /cutest/ thing with the champion pedigree?". | ||
