My Visit to an English Vineyard
photo
This afternoon a group of ladies and our wonderful "events coordinator", Jean Pierre took trip to Dart Valley to visit Sharpham Vineyard, also a cheese dairy.  This vineyard is located in Totnes, South Deven which is only about an hour ride away. The 500 acre farm is over a thousand years old.
Wine is an acquired taste that I have yet to gain but since last fall, I have developed a sudden interest.  I've invested in a few books and some bottles that were highly suggested.  I have been reading about the process in wine making and was able to see the vines and winery up close.  Hands on experience really brings new meaning.  On my way back to Plymouth, my classmate Suisini and I were discussing how beautiful the country is. She mentioned that for her, England has been a fairytale come true.  The stay here has been meaningful in many ways because of her exposure to British influence as a child in India.
I think that when hands-on learning is applied to another experience, the meaning is much significant and interesting to the learner.  This creates a pleasant and meaniful learning experience. As a teacher we should keep this in mind.
