First session this season at Wanlip south reedbed. The group ringed:- 7 Reed Buntings, 1 Reed Warbler, 3 Blackbirds, 1 Dunnock, 2 Blackcaps, (male and female) , 2 Song Thrushes , 2 Long-tailed Tits, 3 Wrens, 1 Treecreeper, 1 Dunnock and 1 Sedge Warbler (pictured right).
First Grasshoper Warbler of the year ringed at Bagworth Heath this evening.
Nice selection of birds ringed today at Wigston SF and Grove Park. They included (in clockwise order from top left) 'Greenland' Wheatear (ten present also two more at the traditional ploughed field in Whetstone) Lesser Whitethroat and close ups to show the head, eye and bill colour differences between Lesser (left) and Common (right) Whitethroat.
Nice report from Dave 'George' Bradley and team ringing at Swithland Reservoir today:- 3 Blackcaps, 1 Song Thrush, 2 Bullfinches, 1 Chiffchaff, 2 Long Tailed Tits, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 Wren, 3 Great Tits, 1 Blue Tit and the bird of the day an adult Jay.
Three Lapwing chicks ringed this afternoon at Grove Park. At this age when the adults call to warn of an approach the chicks instinctively drop down and freeze, relying on just camouflage and cover (below right).
A good selection of birds were ringed at Wigston Sewage works today highliting how important 'island' sites in the middle of fairly barren intensively farmed land like these are. Well done Severn Trent. Eleven species were ringed including from left to right below:- House Martin, Swallow and nearby two Stock Dove chicks.
