Several visits have been made to Charnwood sites over the last few weeks, but today saw the welcome return of a good roost at Charnwood Lodge including many Chaffinches and Redwing (below). The largest catches are made in cold weather so next weekend .... could be good.
Just to report that over the last month the group has been able to make several visits to its main winter site, Charnwood Lodge, ringing between 50 and 75 birds each session. Amongst others over 40 Redwing (right) so far.
We have managed almost weekly visits to Charnwood Lodge. The Redwing total is now up to 48 and colour ringing of Chaffinch is proceding well (see below). Todays catch included this stunning Nuthatch (right) which we ring quite regularly at this site.
An update on our recent activities. With the still, dull conditions it has been possible to mist net in the open at Wigston sewage works where there are currently huge numbers of Pied Wagtail and a good supporting cast of Grey Wagtail and a flock of Meadow Pipit (below left, ringed earlier in the month). Also at Charnwood Lodge where (in addition to the usual species) a Jay was caught and ringed last weekend (below right).
