Children

My children are precious
They keep my life sane
They love me and need me
To them it's no game.

The love left in my heart
Is only for them
They love unconditionally
No matter my sin.

Their faces I see
Each night as I lay
Lord keep them safe
Forever I pray.

Knowing the truth
It lies in their eyes
They'll always be bonded
By our family ties.

Time will soon take them
To lives of their own
College and marriage
Then families well grown.

One day I'll look back
On these days with tears
Wondering what happened
Why wasn't I there.

When looking back over
The years that we spent
In fussing and fighting
That's where the time went.

And what did it bring us
Not one simple thing
Only regrets
That bring such a sting.

Was it all worth it
The fights and the games
You see in the end
It'll all be the same.
