Seasons of the Witch: Volume 1
by Laura J. Burns & Emma Harrison

Three Seasons.
Three Sisters.
Three Stories.

Synopsis: The Witching Hours...

Samhain: October 31st, or Halloween -- traditionally a time to reflect, a time of divination, and a time to honor the ancients. But Phoebe's plans to communicate with her ancestors are cut short when she's recruited to help reunite a star-crossed, magical couple.
Yule: December 22nd, or the winter solstice, and the longest night of the year. And when Paige enters an all-night party at a local club, she finds herself at the center of an evil plot to bring about permanent midnight.
Imbolc: January 2nd, a time when the earliest hopes for spring are fostered and seeds are planted for dreams of the coming summer months. But Piper can't look toward the future -- and having children with Leo -- when her half-whitelighter, half-witch sister's powers are on the fritz. Is a hybrid baby destined for doom?

My Review:
Bought this baby at a whooping $14 at Orchard Popular. But it was more or less worth it. Three fresh, interesting and captivating short stories compiled into one book. And when I say 'short', I meant real short. Each story is only about 60 pages long. However, its humor is enough to keep you satisfied. My only complain is that because these are short stories, the events and style of writing were a little abrupt. Overall, a pretty well-written book. :)

Truth And Consequences
by Cameron Dokey

Earth, water, fire, air,
Aid me in this task I dare.
Where Cole wanders let me see.
As I will, so mote it be

Synopsis: Cole is working late, and her sisters are having a girls' night in, so on the spur of the moment, Phoebe accepts what seems like an innocent date with a friendly stranger. But good intentions are quickly misconstrued when Cole leaves work early to surprised Phoebe - and is stunned to find her sharing a meal with another man.

Cole can't believe that Phoebe would betray him, and Phoebe can't believe Cole would even think she'd betray him. Their escalating argument quickly highlights some fundamental trust issues they each harbor. But soon they discover themselves trapped in the Underworld, at the center of a lovelorn demon's plot to destroy the Power of Three. If Cole and Phoebe can't reconcile their suspicions and insecurities, there's more than their own relationship at risk!

My Review:
Sorry, but this book bored the hell out of me. Truthfully, I have no idea what the author is trying to do. Paige had suddenly become a newbie witch all over again. And Piper has lost all memory of Charon the Ferryman (she and Prue had met him before in the book "Soul of the Bride"). Speaking of Charon, in "Soul of the Bride", he was described as silent, disgusting, and had brown teeth. However, in this novel, he was dressed differently, had perfect white teeth, and was annoyingly chatty. Basically the entire book was a real drag. I'd rather be watching daytime soap opera.  I had considered giving the book at least half-a-star for the good introduction, but reconsidered due to the really crappy and dim-witted ending. During the course of the book, it was like as if the sisters had completely forgotten that they even had powers! And the author just kept going on and on about Cole's love and determination. Blahz... Why the hell isn't Cole dead yet, anyway!?!?!?

Luck Be A Lady
by Scott Ciencin

A desperate gamble
An ancient curse
Will it be good or evil
That triumphs first?

Synopsis: Phoebe Halliwell may be ready to turn over a new leaf as a single gal, but her newly redemonized ex-husband, Cole, isn't ready to let her go. Aware of a supernatural plot against the Charmed Ones, Cole keeps watch over Phoebe, and intercedes at the moment of battle, only to accidentally create a rip in time. Cole disappears to WWII-era Hollywood - and bring the sisters with him!

While the Charmed Ones are no strangers to extreme circumstances, what they didn't anticipate was a demonic stronghold shaking down local businesses. To infiltrate the evil underground, Paige poses as a young starlet, working an entirely different kind of magic before the camera. Meanwhile, Piper is tempted to seek out Leo - in this world, he's still human - and Phoebe is at her wits' end contending with Cole. But a demon henchman is working black magic mojo on Paige, and if the sisters don't focus, before long they'll find themselves completely out of luck!

My Review:
Finally! Cole is demonic again... but not dead (sigh). Another blah novel that managed to turn a potentially interesting plot boring. A couple of spelling errors can be spotted and the bad guy have the ability to manipulate luck, which reminded me of the episode "Lucky Charmed". Not bad an attempt for someone who has never written a Charmed novel before, but it could have been better... and less dull. Seeing the sisters constantly engaging themselves in the same old physical combat in so many books in a row can get really boring. Where's the good old magic from the good old days? When the sisters time-traveled back to the forties, the description and feel seemed pretty realistic... for a while. There wasn't a strong and constant ambiance that can be found in the books "Whispers From The Past" and "Voodoo Moon". Two thumbs up for the simple yet quaint and charming book cover, though :)

Inherit The Witch
by Laura J. Burns

On this, a young girl's birthday hour,
we call upon her inner power.
An ancient calling has been switched -
now, bring back magic to this witch!

Synopsis: As the Charmed Ones know, it's difficult to adjust to the ideas of having powers and saving innocents - that's one of the reasons that their Grams bound their powers until the sisters were ready to receive them. In fact, many witch clans keep the powers of their young dormant until the recipient of the power reaches a certain age.

In Juliana O'Farrell's clan, that age is thirteen - the exact age of her daughter, Lily. By the day after her thirteenth birthday, though, Lily's powers haven't manifested, and Juliana's worried that a demon may have stripped her daughter's magic. Enter the Halliwell sisters. But Lily's too much of a typical teen to welcome witch chaperones. She'd much rather sneak out to hang out with her rebellious friend, Drew. Could Drew's bad behavior be related to Lily's missing magic? It's going to take the Power of Three to get to the bottom of this adolescent angst!

My Review:
Well, the book itself didn't really deserve such a high rating, but you wouldn't believe how smart the story actually is - so I don't have a choice but to give it a good review! Finally, we get to see the sisters back in magical action, and Cole is at last gone!! The story may seem simple and straightforward, but as I'd said - it's really smart. The element of surprise and unexpected twists will leave you nodding in approval & satisfaction. A good read for any Charmed fan.

A Tale of Two Pipers
by Paul Ruditis

Not Available

Rough Summary: Too much work and no time for play have made Piper a major stress case. When a seemingly harmless wish comes true, creating two Pipers, it looks that the problem's solved. Two Pipers can do twice as much work, leaving one Piper to party the night away at her nightclub, P3, and the other Piper to spend time with Leo. While one Piper's home baking, the other can give an interview. Two Pipers? Too perfect.

But soon it becomes clear that two heads - and bodies - aren't always better than one. When Darklighters kidnap Leo and hold him hostage in exchange for the Charmed Ones' powers, one of the Pipers doesn't even seem to care. And then both Pipers' powers fade, leaving them useless and sick. Phoebe and Paige scramble to find a reversal spell, but without Leo's help, and with Piper split in two, will the Power of Three become powerless?
