A
curse was made, an Innocent born
Too darkness her small life was sworn.
Gather the forces, bring them together
Save this girl from sadness forever!
Synopsis:
All
vanquishing and no time for play makes for tired,
grumpy Charmed Ones. Paige decides that what they
need is a family getaway, but where to go? She'd
love to explore her witch heritage in Salem, but
that doesn't sound very relaxing to Phoebe and
Piper, who'd rather spend a week on a quiet beach,
soaking up the sun. Sensing a sibling showdown, Leo
points out that they can do both. They'll spend a
day or two in Salem, then the rest of the time on
the beautiful Massachusetts coast.
Late
flights and wrong directions conspire to sidetrack
the travelers, and they find themselves hungry and
exhausted and nowhere near Salem. Luckily they
happen upon a bed-and-breakfast run by a crotchety
old woman and her strange, shy granddaughter.
They're not your typical innkeepers - and soon
piper, Phoebe, and Paige find that nothing in this
small town is typical. It's all a little... well... mystical.
Maybe those directions weren't wrong after all -
looks like a working vacation for the Charmed Ones.
My
Review:
After her crash and burn in
"Mist
and Stone",
it's nice to see Diana get back in her form (more or
less) in this novel. However, it seems like she was
trying to do a
"Voodoo
Moon",
what with a bed-and-breakfast,
a cranky old landlady, and a handsome handyman. The
true victim here is the old woman, Ida's,
granddaughter Harriet. And the Big Bad here?
Harriet's already-dead-but-her-essence-still-lingers
mother, Abigail. Abigail, a practitioner, was ostracized
when she was a kid, and therefore casts hexes on
those who offended her. A month before Harriet's
birth, she cursed her to become a Jersey Devil, so
as to continue her 'work' after she died. Winner of
Bad Mother Award. As always the ending is always
predictable. Charmed Ones kick dead-mom's ass.
Harriet becomes a normal girl again.
