The Whitsunday Passage is without doubt, one
of the most beautiful areas on the planet.
There are 74 islands in the group.Several of these have their own resorts, and one,Hamilton Island,
has an airport.
The town of Airlie Beach is the main tourist centre
for the area, and Shute Harbour is the departure
point for all of the island tours. One of the most popular tours is the three island tour, visiting Daydream,South Molle and Long Island.
Bareboat charters are numerous,so if you want
to 'go it alone',you can.

While in the Whitsundays we spent as much time on the water as we possibly could, albeit by charter. The ideal situation is to have a boat of your own,as then you are free to explore the islands at your leisure. It is our objective, in the not too distant future to purchase a boat and explore the islands that are not on the main tourist routes. It spurs us on when we see websites containing adventure voyages. One in particular that we enjoyed was Dragons Toy.Well if you sail this way again Tom, we can cook and scrub the decks.

Liz and I will be travelling to Airlie Beach very soon and we are looking forward to a night trip to the open air cinema on Daydream Island. Another goodie to look forward to is the club that serves a full English breakfast for $3.20 and they give you a $2.00 voucher back for the pokies.Thats a good deal!!
The new lagoon that was built last year in Airlie is another popular addition to the area. This is something that was really needed as during the summer months the waters from here northwards can be invaded by marine stingers(Box Jellyfish). As I am typing this, a report has just come on the radio that an American tourist has just died as the result of a sting from one of these creatures.

Cannonvale is the main residential area of the Whitsundays, and it lies about 4 kms from Airlie Beach.Shops in the vacinity are numerous and cater for everything imagineable.
