Wallaby Bobs Hotel
is situated in the centre of the old part of the village. It was built in 1914 by the Laver family, and was originally named the Exchange Hotel. From those early days the rest of the village grew around this popular landmark. |
Mr.W.Laver's permission gratefully appreciated. |
Early Inhabitants
in this area were loggers and saw-mill workers, who had to travel several miles north to the Nerang River, to replenish supplies. As the village expanded, the next industry to develop successfully was dairy farming. |

We first visited the village in 1984 to attend a Christmas Party at the "Woodchoppers Inn".The atmosphere then, was of a quaint little community with hardly any traffic.Weekends were passed with the common sound of horses being trotted along the 'Old Coach Road'. In 1993 we decided to build here and the changes since then have been quite dramatic. Many of the old timber buildings still exist in Mudgeeraba and are Heritage Listed, but the growth of a couple of badly planned housing developments do nothing to compliment this lovely area. Nestled in the foothills of Tallai Mountain, Mudgeeraba can be a furnace in the summertime with temperatures soaring into the 40's. but can be quite cool in the evenings in the winter months. The population of the village from the June 2001 census was 9,853. Mudgeeraba is the home of the Gold Coast War Museum, situated in John Rogers Road west of the village. A short drive from the War Museum is the Boomerang Farm Golf Course. Only nine holes but a very picturesque setting. If you play eighteen there are alternative tee off areas for the back nine.I have played the course many times and never forfeited a stroke for hitting any of the residential kangaroos.Having played most of the courses around the coast I still think the ninth(18th)is as difficult as the best of them. |
